Lunch @Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul, Paradigm Mall

Penang is famous for Teochew Cendol.

Unfortunately I’ve not tried before, and my last trip to Penang was years ago. How sad and embarrassing. T_T

However I consider this as good news because the famous Teochew Cendol has now opened its outlet at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya. It would be great for KL folks!

Its just a small section located at lower ground floor in front of Tesco supermarket. This place was crowded during lunch hour even on weekdays!

Originally located at Lebuh Keng Kwee and only later known as Penang Road Famous TeoChew Chendul.

A short and simple menu is displayed at the ordering counter. Order and pay here, get a number and the worker will bring your food to your table.

Lets begin with their specialty. Looks like everybody are here for this. That goes without saying…because I saw everyone eating it. I would love to try the original one without any additional stuffs. You can have the one with White Coffee, Durian, Cempedak or Ice Cream. For a bowl of Original Teochew Chendul, it is priced at RM4.90. I would give 10/10 (based on my own taste) for this bowl of chendul. Because it meets my satisfaction from the green worm-like jelly (thin strands and not too hard), red beans & kidney beans were properly cooked and lastly sufficient and fragrantful gula melaka!

Then we ordered a plate of Rojak (RM6.90) to share. The ingredients for this rojak was fruits (mango, pineapple), cucumber, taufu pok, cuttlefish tossed with rich fermented shrimp paste and sprinkled with crushed peanuts and sesame seeds. The rojak was nice I felt.

Only 2 types of noodles are served here. So I tried the Assam Laksa (RM7.90), no kick at all. Kinda unsatisfying lor…. 😦

Then, my brother had the Penang Curry Mee (RM7.90). I felt the curry mee is at least better than my assam laksa. But I would prefer it spicier. Extra sambal please…. 😉

So, are you craving for a bowl of chendul at this hour? hehe…..

Product Review : CERRO QREEN Fashion Makeup Brush Set – Green ( 10 pcs )

YAY! Thank you Natta Cosme for giving this opportunity to review a nice set of make up brush!

The brushes are enclosed in this purely white color pouch alike an envelope. Its made of PU leather.

I like its sleek and elegant design. Moreover its handy and convenient for traveling purposes too.

Untie the string to discover these nicely arranged brushes. Each brush has its own purposes.

*trying to imitate a make up artist* I always envy as a make up artist, they usually own a bag/pouch filled with plenty of brushes meant for make up. Obviously I may not be familiar when it comes to that much of brushes.  But CERRO QREEN Fashion Makeup Brush Set – Green ( 10 pcs ) would certainly meets your needs for a basic make up. They are easily to be recognized too. What’s more is that, you can own this good quality brushes with an affordable price. (Will reveal the price at the bottom page)

The brush comes in duo-tone. The shape and size made it easy to handle.

Its also available in purple, black and yellow color.

1) Powder Brush
2) Blush Brush
3) Foundation Brush
4) Big Eyeshadow Brush
5) Eyelash Comb
6) Small Eyeshadow Brush
7) Eyebrow Brush
8) Eyeliner Brush
9) Fan Brush
10) Lip Brush

Okay…lets begin our make up with a clean and moisturized face…

Start with the Foundation Brush (3). Pump a small amount of foundation on your hand, the use this foundation brush as an applicator. Also able to blend well over your face.

Foundation Brush : Fiber
 Brush Length : 15cm
 Hair Length : 2.9cm

Next, I will go with loose powder. Using Powder Brush (1) as an applicator to create a matte look.

Powder Brush - Goat and Fiber
 Brush Length : 17cm
 Hair Length : 4.6cm

For a natural look, use neutral tones like earthy browns. Sweep across eyelids up to below brow bone using the Big Eyeshadow Brush(4) as a highlighter. Then use Small Eyeshadow Brush (6) to apply the darker shade of eyeshadow start at the outer corner of the eye and work the shadow along the crease and the edge of the lid.

Big Eye Shadow Brush - Horse Hair
 Brush Length : 15cm
 Hair Length : 2cm

Small Eye Shadow Brush - Horse Hair
 Brush Length : 5cm
 Hair Length : 0.9cm

I use the Fan Brush (9) to fan off excess powder and fallen eyeshadow.

Fan Brush - High Quality Goat Hair
 Brush Length : 16.8cm
 Hair Length : 3.3cm

Next, if you are using a cream eyeliner you’ll probably need the assistance of Eyeliner Brush (8) to draw a line along the lash line.

Eyeliner Brush - Fiber
 Brush Length : 13.5cm
 Hair Length : 0.6cm

For eyes part, after you are done with eyeshadow and eyeliner… you may need to apply mascara to make your eyes stand out. Using an Eyelash Comb (5) is to brush off clumps after you applied mascara. Ya…its like combing your eyelashes. 😉

Lash Comb - Nylon
 Brush Length : 15.5cm

Blush gives you a rosy glow. While smiling, apply blush using Blush Brush (2) to the apples of the cheeks and blend back toward the hairline. Make sure its spread evenly using the brush 🙂

Blush Brush - Goat Hair
 Brush Length : 16cm
 Hair Length : 3.4cm

For eyebrow, I preferred using dark brown color. Using a small angled Eyebrow Brush (7) , follow the shape of the eyebrow and fill it in to enhance your natural brow line.

Eyebrow Brush - Fiber
 Brush Length : 13.5cm
 Hair Length : 0.6cm

Lastly, not forgetting to add some color to your lip. The Lip Brush (10) – which look alike a piece of crayon is actually the casing for this brush. Using this lip brush to apply and blend the lip color evenly.

Lip Brush – Fiber
Brush Length : 9.5cm
Hair Length : 1cm

Each and every brushes are made of different materials. Fortunately it do not stinks unlike some brushes. I like that the bristles are soft yet dense. Overall I’m quite satisfied with this set of brush in terms of quality, design and value for money!

Lunch @Italiannies, The Gardens Mall

My latest meet up with my girlfriends was lunch at Italiannies, The Gardens Mall. It has been a long time since the last time I dine in Italiannies. I had a good experience with the food and service at Italiannies, Sunway Pyramid back then.

Italiannies, The Gardens has relocate to this new location. One floor below the previous location. Pretty spacious.

Nic and I arrived first. So, we decided to get a seat while we wait for Ash & Yi to come. While waiting, we were served with these complimentary bread. Next to it is a plate filled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

This is currently new on their menu. 7 wonders of pizza. Upon ordering pizza from this menu, you can add on drink (mountain dew pitch black) or dessert (panna cotta) at a cheaper price.

We chose Barbeque Smoked Duck Pizza (RM35.90)

Smoked duck breast with a barbeque base, topped with peaches, onions, chili flakes, mozzarella cheese & arugula.

Thin and crispy crust. I like the smoked duck breast. But I thought the topping could be a lil extra. Don’t you think the topping is too sikit?

Quattro Platter (RM37.90)

A combination of risotto balls, calamari, fried lemon cheesy balls and zucchini strings. Complete with Marinara sauce and Alfredo sauce for dipping.

This was served as ‘starters’. Quattro Platter is ideal for sharing. I like everything that was served on this plate. Except for fried lemon cheesy balls. I find that the cheese taste was too strong. May be because I’m not really a cheese person 😀

Classic Carbonara (RM37.90) Regular

Fettuccine pasta tossed in Parmesan cream sauce with smoked beef bacon chicken and fresh button mushroom.

The al-dente Carbonara Fettucine was nice and not too cloying. However we were quite surprise that a popular Italian restaurant uses ready made pastas that we could easily purchase in boxes from the supermarket instead of doing from scratch. Is this a common practice in other Italian restaurants too?

Nic kept her promise and brought us her homemade kimchi. It was very nice. I had almost half of it. hahaha…. *janji ditepati*! TQ Nic 🙂

Ash on the other hand also planned to bring some muffins. Unfortunately, she said the result of her muffins were not pretty. So, she decided not to bring. Its okay….. we can still sample them in future rite? hehe….

Overall : The food was not bad. Unfortunately the service was quite bad. In terms of when we asked for a glass of plain water, we gotto ask again and again from different person because its like so difficult to serve a glass of water. When came to bill…. we were told dunno what system was down. So, they gotto do manual calculation, via calculator. Calculate the wrong amount for us! Aduhhh….

Let’s not ruin the day with some petty stuffs. Our group photo together with our ‘big boss’ Abel jai! LOL!

We saw benefit was having a roadshow and there was a nice pastel color backdrop. We thought it would be nice to use as the background for our group photo. Unfortunately we couldn’t ‘catch’ anyone to take photo for us. So, we ended up cam-whoring ourselves. LOL!

4 siao char bo having cam-whore!! 😀 😀

My Home Cooking: Chinese Five Spice Chicken Wings & Passion Fruit Agar-Agar

Last week; I tried out 2 simple dishes that you could easily try at home. I consider them as easy home cooked food. When I say easy…. I suppose its consider easy lar… LOL!

Chinese Five Spice Chicken Wings

(recipe by Ang Sarap) check out his blog for nice cooking recipes 🙂

Ingredients

1 kg chicken wings
1 tbsp five spice powder
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Method

1. In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients except the water, set it aside and let chicken marinate for at least 6 hours.

2013-11-28 20.43.49The after marination wings. This were only half portion…the other half already into the wok ready to be cook.

As required; 1kg of chicken wings… the chicken wings that I bought from supermarket were quite big. So all together, I got around 6 pieces of whole wing.

2013-11-28 20.44.102. Place everything in a wok together with the water. Turn heat to high then bring to a boil, while boiling turn chicken once in a while to make sure its cooked evenly, let the liquid thicken then set the heat to low. This might take around 8-10 minutes.
3. Once liquid is thick, turn heat to low so it does not burn, turn the chicken once in a while to coat it evenly. At this point a small amount of oil is extracted from the chicken wings, stir fry chicken for a minute (add oil if needed), remove from wok then serve.

2013-11-28 21.13.13Ta..dah…. the juice, succulent and tasty Chinese Five Spice Chicken Wings ready to serve. You too can try this at home 🙂

Passion Fruit Agar-Agar

2013-12-01 19.07.35

I got this idea by someone who posted on the internet. I couldn’t remember the website. Too bad…couldn’t credit the creator 😦

Do you like passion fruit? I like passion fruit but those we got here are usually sour. I still remember the passion fruit I had in Indonesia was big, juicy and sweet! Not forgetting they are selling cheap too. Unlike here. I bought a pack from market cost RM7!

Ingredients

passion fruits

sugar

water

agar-agar powder

Method

1. Wash and cut the passion fruits into 1/2. Using a spoon, scrap the passion fruit flesh into a bowl. Scrap it clean like ‘photo below’.

Place these cleaned passion fruit on a tray. I am going to use them as the agar-agar mould.

2. Follow the instructions at the back of the agar-agar powder (you can easily buy from supermarket), dissolve the agar-agar powder with water & sugar in a boiling pot, bring to boil.

3. Since we are going to add passion fruit’s flesh+juice…therefore, I am using 2 glass of water + 1 glass of passion fruit flesh with juice. Add sugar accordingly, because the sweetness may varies depending on the passion fruit.

4. Bring the dissolved ingredients (step 3) to boil. Boil for few minutes over low heat. Then pour into moulds (the passion fruit shells). Allow it to cool for awhile before you chill or refrigerate them.
