Lunch @Hovin Coffee & Bakers, Seremban

When Hovin Coffee & Bakers formerly located at Seremban town (near Public Bank), I couldn’t get the chance to pay a visit. Reason because I rarely go to town and also due to the limited parking space over there.

Now that Hovin Coffee & Bakers has moved to this new location, it gives me the opportunity to pay a visit during lunch hour. This new location of their cafe would be nearer to my work place. Precisely, it is located opposite to Asia Laksa, Senawang. Nearby to Senawang Exhibition and Convention Centre (SECC).

Hovin Coffee & Bakers is a simple cafe that offers good coffee and food at a reasonable price. Despite the price, staffs are friendly too.

Often cafes serves pasta, sandwiches. But at Hovin Coffee & Bakers, they also served rice. I’m glad they did, because I’m a rice person. 😀

I was told they have some newly added dishes which are not shown on their menu booklet. Perhaps they should have a simple printout copy showing what are their latest added dishes. I saw the lunch deal on their chalkboard written:-

I chose Curry Chicken Rice set, that come with a drumstick, curry potatoes, slices of cucumber and a bull’s eye egg topped on the rice. The curry chicken rice was delicious, I felt.

When I’m in a cafe, I would definitely prefer a cuppa coffee over juices or sodas. Therefore I requested for Hot Latte with an additional RM2 to upgrade my drink. Barista must be in a good mood today. Hence he made a nice coffee art on my drink. What does it resemble? It looked like a smiling plant.

You can also check out the counter for bake of the day. (cakes, muffins, pies)

I am delighted to know they serve Salted Egg Yolk Croissant (RM7.90) here. Look at the oozing salted egg yolk lava upon cutting the flaky and buttery croissant. It was awesome! There was also Matcha Croissant which I’m keen to try. I wonder if there’s lava in it too. 🙂

**New menu was published on October 2017.

Made another visit here and discovered their new extensive menu with more varieties of set lunch.

Buttermilk Chicken with Rice. Complete your set which includes a cup of Honey Lemon drink. But I will usually opt to upgrade my drink to coffee.

A cuppa Hot Cappuccino with a neat coffee art!

My colleague had their Grilled Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce. The food portion is quite generous compared with the price paid.

I always appreciates the fine coffee art done by the barista. Hence I would slowly sip it down without damaging it. 🙂

Tea Break @Be My Friend Cafe, Seremban

On a sunny afternoon, we were feeling so thirsty. All I wanted was a cuppa refreshing and icy drink to quench my thirst. While driving back from the mall, my sister mentioned about this new cafe she saw on Facebook. Without hesitation, we went straight to the cafe.

Be My Friend Cafe is located at Centrio Avenue of Seremban 2 – nearby Mydin Mall. Opened since end of October 2015. Its located on 1st floor, so you might miss out this place.

We walked up the stairs to where this cafe located. As we enter, this is the environment of the cafe. Simple and homely feel.

*self service mode* List of beverages are written on the chalk board. They also have light food like; sandwiches, pancakes, waffles.

Cakes available here are freshly baked. Fondant cupcakes are available upon ordering; ie: for parties & weddings.

These caught my attention. It was placed at the counter. Lovely fondant cupcake topper for newborn.

I felt this is the best seating angle/position in this cafe. You get view + most of the natural lighting.

All of us ordered the thirst killer drinks. LOL! 😀
So that I can have another reason to visit this place for some freshly brewed coffee.

Iced Blueberry Tea – RM6.90

A drink with mixture of tea & blueberry. I personally like this drink. Tasted like Ribena with a hint of tea.

Rosemary Pineapple Soda – RM7.90
Very refreshing. Perfect on a hot & sunny day.
I observed that all drinks are prepare on the spot.

Chicken Quesadilla with tomato pico de gayo – RM13.90 (a Mexican cuisine)

Crispy Tortilla filled with grilled chicken, pepper and cheese served withtomato pico de gayo (made from chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, salt, and key lime juice.)

Chocolate Sauce with Banana Waffle – RM12.90

Slices of bananas were sandwiched in between this nicely stacked waffle. A scoop of vanilla ice cream comes together with the serving. Extra chocolate sauce were served with the waffle too. The combinations were good to be eaten when its served hot.

This place is quite relaxing. A nice place to hangout if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. Furthermore the service was good too. I was informed that soon they’ll be adding more items into their menu.

*recent update*

Starting from January 2016, Be My Friend Cafe has started to serve pork. Sorry to disappoint my Muslim friends ya.

DSC01261Big portion of breakfast comes with pork ham in less than RM20

DSC01262Creamy Spaghetti Carbonara with mushroom & bacon.

DSC01263Yet to try out all the new dishes. Do pay a visit if you are nearby. They’ve added quite a number of new dishes into their menu.

Brunch @Chars Cafe, Uptown Avenue Seremban 2

Weekends can never go wrong with cafe hopping!

On one fine weekend, I decided to visit this so-called new cafe in my neighborhood together with my family.

One may overlook this cafe because of its simple exterior.

But the interior is not bad. Cosy and comfortable seating place.

The light bulbs lighting are pretty nice and creative.

The interior design of this cafe is quite nice too.

With all the wordings on the wall….will it gives you more inspirations in writing? hehe….

Jet was getting excited with the helium balloon (the black one). It says there “Will You Marry Me”. Someone must have done a marriage proposal here. Aww..Such a sweet guy.

Chars Cafe practices ‘self service’. The huge menu board is placed visibly on the wall. Just place your order at their counter.

**only cash term**

Chars Cafe offers breakfast set at price of RM16.90 and RM17.90 which inclusive of a cuppa coffee. Choose from; ‘Americano, Cappuccino or Latte.

We had Cappuccino & Latte. Their coffee is quite rich and aromatic. Not forgetting also a neat coffee art.

Their simple breakfast set.

I opt for the latter; ‘Chars Breakfast Set’ which comprised of croissant, button mushrooms, baked beans, scrambled eggs & a cheesy sausage. I like their fresh & crispy croissant.

Besides this, we also ordered their Aglio Olio Spaghetti with Wild Mushroom at priced of RM9.80 which I felt it tasted so so only.

The brown sugar in a mini glass + crooked spoon caught my attention. Can’t help but to capture the image of it. 😀

Chocolate Waffle (RM12.90) was made fresh. Comes with double scoop of chocolate ice cream and sprinkled with chocolate sauce & coco krunch!

Will pay another visit to try their cakes. Looks good….

J.CO, the popular donut brand, originally from Indonesia has finally made its way to Seremban. The only J.CO outlet that you can find in Seremban is now located at Palm Mall. Are you also a donut lover?

“J.CO Donuts & Coffee is a lifestyle cafe retailer in Indonesia specializing in donuts, coffee and frozen yogurt.”

The ambiance, the environment is relaxing to have a drink or to gather with family & friends.

Spacious cafe with comfy seats. Do you spot a see through glass on this white wall? Its the production area behind this white wall. You could witness how’s the donuts are made there.

The Al Fresco dining area.

I need more J. Coffee in order to come up with more great ideas! 😀

HAHA! The quote on the wall is pretty true! 😀

The donuts are made fresh everyday.

I was told that there are 30 over flavors.

Sampling their signature donuts.  Glazzy & Alcapone. Glazzy, the original honey and sugar that melts in your mouth. Alcapone, name similar to American gangster Al Capone. This donut has a smooth texture flavors, with the original Belgian white chocolate topping and almond California.

Another best seller donut here, Cheezy Rich, filled with cream cheese and topped with shredded cheese that comes from New Zealand. Ohhh…so cheezy!

The donuts are fresh, soft and fluffy. Moreover its not too sweet. Besides that, the donut goes pretty well with a cuppa hot coffee.

Guan Heong Biscuit from Ipoh

When my mom told me about the meat floss biscuit here, I tried to locate the place and hope to buy back some for her. Unfortunately during my past trip to Ipoh, I couldn’t get to buy any because the biscuits were sold out 😦

About Guan Heong Biscuit.

In the 19th century, during a period when tin mining was booming in Malaya (now known as Malaysia), it has attracted many Chinese immigrants from China. Mr. Sitt Kun Shan, who was brought up from a bakery family from Zhen Jiang, China founded his bakery business in 1918, as the first bakery shop in Ipoh New Town. The name Guan Heong was adopted signifies his passion to serve the original and high quality taste of pastry to his customers in the Hokkien translation. As the name shows, the basic philosophy it expresses is that we must present fresh pastry using high quality ingredients and no artificial flavoring.

With the hardwork of Mr. Sitt Kun Shan and his workers, the business began diversifying to include a wide variety of products like Heong Pheah, Pong Pheah, Salted Tau Sar Pheah, peanut candy, sweet sesame crispies, sweet rice crispies, bridal cakes, mooncakes and many more. Meanwhile with its strong adherence to taste and quality, the Guan Heong brand obtained a strong reputation and started distributing across regions.

The baton of the business has been passed on to the second generation, Sitt You Zhu and now the third generation, Sitt Hock Lye of the family. Despite the changes in timeline, the philosophy and tradition of the business never change, adhering strongly to taste and quality in order to bring the best pastries to the customers.

The third generation, Sitt Hock Lye with his wife further diversified the product line to include what is so famous in town today: Meat Floss Biscuit, Dried Meat Biscuit, pineapple roll and nutty cookies. Guan Heong‘s traditional Hokkien Mooncake and Teo Chew Mooncake have also been featured on The Star Newspaper dated back in September 5, 2007.

Guan Heong, with its heritage of around 100 years, the oldest bakery name in Ipoh New Town will continue to grow and serve the customers with quality and tasty pastries.

I’ve been following Malaysia Food, Travel & Tourism Blog and FB Page by VKeong.

Last month, I saw this giveaway on his FB Page. Very simple by just dropping a comment. So, I tried my luck lor…

Check the number of commentators. But only 5 person will be pick as winner to receive 3 boxes of biscuits.

Later, I was really happy to see my name appeared as one of the selected winner. *so fortunate!*

Last week I received the parcel, a big brown box from Guan Heong Biscuit Shop.

The content of the big brown box.

3 boxes of biscuits as mentioned earlier. All are nicely pack and sealed.

Ohh wow…… 2 different contents. All comes in individual convenient pack!

Left (Guan Heong’s Signature Biscuit), Right (Guan Heong’s Traditional Biscuit).

Guan Heong’s Traditional Biscuit; Tau Sar Pheah is somewhat nicer than those I usually eat. The pastry is crispy, not like those ‘masuk angin’ type. And the filling is nice too.

These are all Guan Heong’s Signature Biscuits. They are all wrapped in individual packs to maintain its freshness.

From Left → Right.

1) Meat Floss Biscuit – Crispy yet flaky pastry with meat floss and lotus paste filling.

2) Dried Pork Biscuit – Crispy yet flaky pastry with dried meat filling.

3) Salted Egg With Meat Floss Biscuit – Crispy yet flaky pastry with meat floss and lotus paste and an addition of salted egg yolk filling.

As you can see, the filling is quite generous. I like all of them and happily sharing it with my family.

Other than traditional and signature biscuits, at Guan Heong they also sell seasonal biscuits like during Chinese New Year and mooncakes during Mooncake Festival. You can also order your wedding biscuits here.

1005126_286248444854711_817705773_nTo save your trouble for traveling all the way to Ipoh, you can order the biscuits by just dialing the number above. Minimum order would be at least 6 boxes. So convenient hor…. In future, I can order too. However this delivery service is only available within West Malaysia.

The price list for their Signature Biscuits:-

1. Meat Floss with Lotus Paste Biscuit – RM 14.60 per box
2. Meat Floss with Salted Egg and Lotus Paste Biscuit – RM20.90 per box
3. Dried Pork with Lotus Paste Biscuit – RM20.90 per box

(delivery charges varies depending on the weight)

Last but not least… once again I want to thank VKeong and Guan Heong Biscuit Shop for this giveaway!!

My Tea Break @CAFFEine; Setiawalk Puchong

My daily caffeine boost has to be at least a cuppa coffee. But usually I’ll just bancuh my cheap 3in1 coffee…hehehe…..

Caffeine is a bitter substance found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate, kola nuts, and certain medicines. But in this case…obviously we are referring to their drinks.

One day, I saw my friend posted photos of this cafe on his Facebook. Nice drink and cake I saw. I decided to give it a try and dragged Alex to bring me to Setiawalk. I noticed there are more and more cafes offering coffees and cakes here at Klang Valley. Anyway, this would be beneficial to us, the consumers…where we will be spoil with choices. Agreed? 😉

A very simple interior. Located at 1st floor right above Share Tea.

Free Wifi and some old-skool board games are also available here.

The drinks menu are neatly written on a chalkboard.

Freshly baked cakes and muffins. The cakes looked so good. I couldn’t decide which one to go for.

Ohhh…homemade ice cream by FatBaby is also available here! Isn’t that great to have some homemade ice cream. In terms of ingredients, much natural I suppose.

Again…I’m required to choose. I like salted caramel….at the same time I also like peanut butter wor. So, I ended up choosing ‘peanut butter’ flavor. hehe….

The ice cream is quite smooth and has nice taste of peanut butter. But not very strong. Size of cup is around 6cm in diameter.

Ohh ya…the friendly barista handed 2 additional flavors for us to sample. (not the whole cup okay) :-p

Chocolate : Very rich chocolate taste. Ermm…a lil bitter after taste.

Apple Crumble : Nice and fruity!

It was a hot afternoon. I really feel like having a cold drink. Therefore I chose Iced Electro Choc – RM11. (made from Irish cream, hazelnut coffee, milk and cocoa powder). Nice layers of drink I had. Wow…I did not expect an iced drink comes with coffee art too!! Thought I could only see the coffee art on hot drinks. *claps* I would say this drink is nice. Very smooth too. Hmm…kinda reminds me of latte.

Quench my thirst with a glass of Iced Electro Choc. To me, the serving size is quite big.

There you go…my choice of cake, Chocolate Baileys Cake – RM19.50.

A rich chocolate mousse cake topped with crunchy and crispy caramelized hazelnut. However I find it kinda pricey for a slice of cake. But this slice of cake is really good lar….

Come…take a closer look. Layers of chocolate mousse and sponge. The mousse part is rich and smooth. While the sponge part is very moist. Makes it a great combo!

Brunch @ TiPsy Brew O’Coffee, Setiawalk Puchong

My previous visit to TiPsy Brew O’Coffee, Setiawalk Puchong was during tea time, enjoyed a cuppa coffee at this cozy place while waiting for the movie to begin.

Then I told myself, I want to come back here to try their cakes and food!

So, I decided to revisit this place over the weekend.

2013-04-21 11.59.35

Recently…Alex is soooo busy with his Candy Crush game! By passing my level although he started to play later than me. But I’ve neglected the game for quite sometime…lazy la… LOL!

2013-04-21 12.04.04

Alex with his order; Cappuccino – RM8.90. I was like…cappuccino again? Don’t you want to try something else? @_@

2013-04-21 12.03.42

Can I call myself a coffee lover without having much knowledge about coffee? I saw this familiar name on the menu called Macchiato – RM7.90. I decided to give it a try. ~To broaden my ‘knowledge’! HAHAHA!

‘Macchiato’ simply means ‘marked’ or ‘stained’, and in the case of caffè macchiato, this means literally ‘espresso stained/marked with milk’. Traditionally it is made with one shot of espresso, and the small amount of added milk was the ‘stain’. (source from wikipedia)

2013-04-21 12.07.55

Look…my cuppa macchiato is so small huh. My face is so much bigger that the cup. Oh my gosh! Yaya…I know..that is the way macchiato been served.

Yes, indeed macchiato has richer coffee taste!

2013-04-21 12.13.05

Turkey Sandwich – RM9.90

Turkey Roll, Tomato, Lettuce, Alfalfa, Mustard sandwiched in choice of bread; white or wholemeal.

2013-04-21 12.09.19

In their menu, there were only 2 types of noodle – Thai Laksa & Mee Rebus. I wish they could have more choices. Here, I chose Thai Laksa – RM10.90. The noodle texture is nice. Hmm…something like thick type of rice vermicelli. The broth wasn’t really spicy. It tasted quite similar to Nyonya Laksa . But I would preferred a creamier broth. hehe….

2013-04-21 12.21.55

The freshly baked Cranberry Scone is priced at RM3.80 each. Its crumbly, not hard and has nice fragrant of butter. Served with cream and blueberry jam.

2013-04-21 12.35.42

While I was looking at the selections of cakes..I asked one of the staff. Which would you recommend. She recommended a few..I can’t really remember them. But Toffee Banana was one of the recommended ones. Both toffee and banana are my favorite. Toffee Banana Cake (RM8.90) was very fresh, light and spongy! Toffee and slices of bananas are sandwiched between layers of spongy cake. Beneath is a thin layer of biscuit crumb. BTW…It was a really nice gesture. To draw a snoopy on the plate using chocolate sauce. This person must be quite artistic.

An interesting picture I saw on Facebook today. So, which is your type of coffee? And what your coffee says about you? My favorite pick is Latte. Latte says “you’re reflective, but often indecisive. In the world of unknowns, you like the safe picks”. OMG! Sounds quite accurate leh…

Dinner @The Carpenter’s Daughter~Artisan Bakery & Cafe~ Taipan USJ

Know about this place when Sean of Eat Drink KL wrote a review on it.

But until today only I got the chance to ajak my friends to dinner together there.

The name of this place doesn’t make me think its an eatery. The other day when I mentioned about this place to another friend who works nearby…she initially thought its a workshop or anything to do with carpentery works. Perhaps an ID centre. LOL!!

The Carpenter’s Daughter~Artisan Bakery & Cafe not just selling bakery (breads & cakes). They also served Western & Asian food.

The Carpenter’s Daughter~Artisan Bakery & Cafe was first established as a home-based baking in 2008. Then started its operation on August 2011. True enough that the owner is indeed a carpenter’s daughter. While their bread claimed as using 100% certified organic whole wheat and unbleached flour and other natural ingredients without preservatives. That’s very healthy!

There were total 4 of us. So we were recommended to take the “Family Set”. Its for 4 person. Only available from 6 – 8.45pm.

Family Set comes with:-

  • 9″ Pizza (selected choice. Seafood is not allowed)
  • 4 bowls of soup.
  • 2 nos. Pastas
  • Potato Lover
  • 4 glass of drinks.

20130218_204645

I like their Minestrone. It has rich tomato flavors…together with some other vege. I find it really appetizing!

20130218_205058The Mushroom Soup is full of mushroom goodness.

20130218_205444

Carbonara Al Funghi, creamy spaghetti cooked together with 3 types of mushrooms.

20130218_205525

Bolognese Chicken has generous amount of meat and sauce.

20130218_205344

Homemade Pizza was delicious. *sorry I can’t recall the name”

20130218_205659

The dough is not hard and not too thick. Look at the cheesy topping covering the pizza’s ingredients.

20130218_210321

For Potato Lover, we chose Mashed Potato. The mashed potato is very smooth. While the gravy tasted good with the mashed potato. Often eaten outside usually quite salty and has alot of MSG taste. You won’t feel that on their mashed potato.

20130218_203951

My friend commented that their Lemon Meringue is good. May be I should drop by someday to dapao it. Before leaving..I bought some buns for my breakfast.

Looking for some healthy food..you may drop by The Carpenter’s Daughter Artisan Bakery Cafe. The food here aren’t too salty, yet filled with rich flavors. Bear in mind..if you come here on weekdays, the kitchen closed at 8.45pm. So come before that time.

Nice Coffee @ La Roasteria Coffee, Seremban 2

I am delighted to know that there’s a decent cafe for me to tarn kopi (enjoy coffee). I meant like those in KL…aromatic coffee with pretty coffee art on it..Also, I received good reviews from some friends who had tried their coffee.

Recently I found out that they’ve opened another outlet at Seremban 2..which is nearer to my mom’s house. The main outlet is at Seremban town (Jalan Kong Sang).

La Roasteria Coffee is the name of the cafe.

Nice ambiance. Isn’t it? Its a good thing that we can have brunch or have a drink with friends in this lovely place. In Seremban, we have very limited choice of places like this. Unlike in KL, people are spoiled with choices and places for brunch.

Other than coffee, they do serve these freshly baked scones and also cakes.

I came here for brunch. So, lets order something to fill our stomach.

I wanted light coffee, so I ordered a cuppa Caffe Latte – RM7.20.

*A heart shape for me*

Bro had Cappuccino – RM7.20. Pretty coffee art right?

While mummy had Mocha – RM8.

I chose to order sandwiches. I picked Butter Croissant with Fried Wild Mushroom filling – RM9.80. Choices of bread are Butter Croissant, Ciabatta, Panini, Baguette. On menu stated, “Fried Wild Mushroom filling” is recommended. Unfortunately I find it rather dry and tasted too mild. However I do like their butter croissant. Fresh, flaky and buttery!

Creamy Chicken Mushroom Pie – RM12.80. A savory pie with chicken filling. Light, flaky and buttery pastry. Comes with creamy soup. This was good!

Spaghetti Chicken Bolognese – RM10.80 was just average.

Can’t leave without having dessert. There wasn’t much choice of cake during my visit. I chose Moist Chocolate Mud Cake – RM7.80. Indeed very moist. Rich chocolate taste too. The cake was served warm. Therefore I thought it would be perfect if they added a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the cake.

Soon after I uploaded this colorful photo collage on my FB, friends got excited and drop by La Roasteria Coffee the following day.

Verdict : Simple and nice cafe to catch up with friends and have a drink. Recommended to try their coffee and cakes!

Brunch at The Muffin House, Seremban

I remember I once visited this place when it was quite new. But was few years ago. Opppss…..tee hee..

That time they were more into serving muffins. I also remember the muffins were good.

Weekends, we’ll usually just settle our lunch around Seremban 2 area. Because lazy to go down town..The other day, out of sudden, I got the idea to come here for brunch. So, I decided to date mummy. ^_^

A simple looking cafe, nice to hangout with friends and family.

Simple menu with pages of sandwiches, pastas and drinks.

The Muffin House, practice self-service. Place and pay your order at the counter.

Mummy ordered a cup of Black Coffee for RM4.90.

I like my cuppa Caramel Cappuccino – RM6.50. Aromatic coffee with nice hint of caramel taste, which is not too sweet.

Mummy likes her Chicken Pepperoni Spaghetti with Mushroom sauce – RM10.90. I was surprised with the serving method. Instead of the usual porcelain plate, they uses big paper cups. From the look, I’m gonna guess that, they 1st placed the cooked spaghetti in the paper cup, next pour in the creamy mushroom sauce, topped with slices of pepperoni then finally they heat it/ placed in the microwave?

My Smoked Chicken Spaghetti with mushroom sauce – RM10.90 was good also. Topped with slices of smoked chicken with drizzles of BBQ sauce. The not too creamy mushroom sauce won’t make you feel ‘jelak’.

My only complain for this spaghetti is the portion abit small for me. HAHAHAHA!!!

At The Muffin House, they sell assorted flavors muffins.

Types of muffins they served.

Other than muffins, they do have assorted cakes too.

I chose ‘Marble’ Muffin for RM4.90, about the size of my palm. I would say the muffins are worth eating. They are moist and not too flaky.
