A Day Trip to MELAKA (Part 2)

[cont. from previous post…]

4) MENARA TAMING SARI

We walked for about 15 minutes from Jonkers Street. The price for each ticket is RM10 (provided you show them your MY Kad/ Malaysian citizen). Or else it will be priced at RM20.

Menara Taming Sari which located at Jalan Merdeka, Banda Hilir, Melaka was opened on 18 April 2008. The 110 metre viewing tower was designed based on the legendary Taming Sari Keris.

It will be the 1st tower in the country to have a fully revolving structure. The air-conditioned viewing cabin will be able to accommodate 66 people at one time.

5) Nadeje Patisserie Cafe, Mille Crepe

I’ve seen several good reviews on this cafe. As its famous for its crepe. The crepe is a cake form with many layers of pancake with fresh cream on each layer. It was my first time trying it. The one that we went is located at Dataran Pahlawan. The cafe was full. We waited for about 10 minutes to be seated. Worth waiting….

Hardly decide

Mango Yogurt (RM9) – Rich yogurt taste. Its very fluffy.

Rum & Raisin (RM8.50) – Not much of rum taste. It tasted more on raisin side.

Coffee (RM8.50) – With nice coffee taste.

Chocolate Strawberry (RM9.50)

All of the above are very nice. The texture is soft & fluffy. Yet the sweetness ain’t killing your tooth. A very good place for a tea break.

All the drinks above are from RM3.80 to RM5

6) A FAMOSA

A Famosa meant “The Famous” in Portuguese. It is among the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia. The Porta de Santiago, a small gate house, is the only remaining part of the fortress still standing. Took some snapshots just in front of the wall.

7) Seafood @ Portuguese Settlement, Melaka

Our last pit stop of the day. Headed over Portuguese Settlement for our dinner. Without knowing where the location is; (never been there before) and all we got is the address. Good to have GPS these days. Lucky to have Kong’s voice GPS* to guide us there. (with an ang mo lady voice whom ask you to turn left, turn right, turn left right….LOL!). Don’t worry, it won’t lead you over the walls. Hahahaha….

Reached there at about 7pm. There is an open air area allocated for parking. Just pay RM1 per entry. Bear in mind; once you got down from your car, don’t be surprise they will be people kinda promoting their stall to you. Since there are 10 shops in total; therefore the business is quite competing.

Its actually located just by the sea. It was so windy & the sea waves are so strong.

View of the surrounding.

As the Sun sets

We chose this restaurant; as it was recommended by a blogger

Watermelon Juice(L) – RM3.50

Kailan with Salted Fish – RM8

Very nice smell of the salted fish. The vege doesn’t taste overcooked either.

Sambal Sotong – RM15

The sotong/squid is fresh. However the sambal/sauce is abit on salty side.

Baked Fish in Portuguese Style – RM32

The fish is the best! Especially the sauce they used to bake the fish. It combines really well.

Crabs with Salted Egg

Dry Spicy Crab

The crabs are priced at RM40/kg. You may pick your choice of cooking method. We chose it to be cooked with salted egg and dry spicy. Somehow; the taste are SO SO only. But the crabs are very fresh!

Lala(Clams) with Ginger & Cili Padi – RM15

We waited quite long for this last dish to be served. To our surprise; this dish is really good! Especially its gravy. A recommended one!

A Day Trip to MELAKA (Part 1)

An impromptu plan we made.

Chose Melaka as the destination as it is near. Iternary was drafted last minute too. Googled for places to eat. I am very sure that we ended up more eating than sight-seeing. Eat at almost every stops. *blushed*

On Sunday; Ashley, Andrew, Wanyi & Yew Kong traveled from KL and reached my house at about 10.30am. We then traveled to Melaka; safely arrived and got our car parked at Jonkers Street at about 11.30am.

All of us were so hungry. Decided chicken rice ball as our so-called breakfast.

1) KEDAI KOPI CHUNG WAH

After the chicken rice meal; walked around at Jonkers Street. Luckily it wasn’t very really sunny that day. Or else I will be perspiring non-stop. 😉

2) JONKER 88

A shop serving various noodles & cendols. The shop is often seen with long queues.

the interior

We ordered 2 types of Laksa.

Nyonya Assam Laksa – Its different from the Penang Assam Laksa. This is much more sour and spicy. Without the shrimp paste.

Baba Laksa – Creamy Curry soup. Nice one!

The one I’m referring here is located at Taipan, USJ. Eventually; they do have a few more branch at Desa Sri Hartamas, Kota Damansara, Puchong, Kepong and 2 outlets as well in Penang.

Dinner @ Restoran Win Loy

We celebrated Michele’s birthday earlier.

Had a simple dinner at Restoran Win Loy which is located just a few minutes drive from home at Seremban 2.

This restaurant is usually crowded during weekends. At around 7pm, you can see that the restaurant is almost full with customers. The food served was quite fast. We ordered a few ordinary Chinese cuisine and some are their signature dish.

cili padi & chopped garlic served with the dishes.

ku lou yuk/ sweet & sour pork – RM8

铁板豆腐 tit pan tau fu – RM8

stir fry 菜胆 – RM10

Siong Tong Lala (Lala in Superior Stock) – RM15

I kinda like this dish. The soup flavored with ginger shreds, chillies and rice wine.

Deep Fried Squid with Salted Egg – RM10

Dinner @ SIL RO AM, traditional Korea Restaurant

Me and my family loves Korea food. So does Alex.

Saw some brochures about this restaurant opening its second brand in Era Walk. Therefore we decided to give it a try. We went for dinner instead of lunch. This Korea restaurant actually runs by Korean. The business was really good on weekend. Night to be precise. Business was good –> Insufficient staff –> Poor service. We were so hungry by then.  It took us 1/2 hour  for our dish to arrive. Moreover with the smell of bak kut teh ;just next to the restaurant makes me even hungrier. (Can’t blame the owner. May be he did not expect it was that crowded.) After all; the food was good.

Studying the Menu. Got the waiter to assist us upon the orders.

The wrapped cutlery

Assorted Korea side dishes. Not allowed to refill. Only kimchi is refillable.

Doi Sok Bi Bim Bap – RM20

Boiled rice with assorted mixture in a stone pot. Well; its taste good.

Sam Gae Tong – RM25

Young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice cooked in ginseng soup. An ideal one to order during cold weather. The soup is very tasty too.

Ber Sek Bok Geum – RM25

Assorted mushroom cooked with vegetable. For mushroom lover; you gotto try this.

Sam Gyup Sal – RM25

Sliced Pork Bacon with fresh salad & sauce.

Grill the pork, cut into smaller pieces, place it on a piece of lettuce, add a small amount of rice, finally some sauce. Roll it and then consume it.

Taa Daah…this is how it looks. Ready to eat lah…

I’ve tried “Axian Dim Sum”

Last weekend when we were in USJ; Alex and I decided to try “Axian Dim Sum” at USJ Taipan Business Centre. If I’m not mistaken its the 2nd branch. The other one is located at Puchong. Axian aka Jason Yeoh who hosted the program阿贤人情味 aired on Astro AEC is one of the creator of this restaurant, along with a few friends.

It was about 11am; not many people yet. We sat on the 1st floor(air conditioned)-non smoking area. While the ground floor is smoking area.

The ambiance of the restaurant

For hygiene purpose; the utensils are wrapped with cling film.

The prices here are slightly higher than those you are getting from normal restaurants. The price range are from RM3 to RM6. Apparently; Axian uses Sakura Pork (antibiotic and growth hormone free) as the main ingredient for the dim sum. Which resulted in a healthier and better taste.

Siu Mai – The meat is so tender & tasty. A MUST TRY!!

Wrapped with seaweed. Centered with crabstick & fresh prawn. A unique one!

Herbal Prawn & Pork Ball (药材卖)

Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (上海小笼包) – Not bad though. But I felt that the one served at Dragon-I is nicer.

Braised Chicken Feet – Very tasty

Steamed Pork Ribs (蒸排骨) – Meat aren’t too hard. Tender meat with tasty gravy.

Century Egg with Minced Pork Porridge (皮蛋瘦肉粥) – The porridge is smooth. Taste is just nice. Not too salty.

Stuffed Chee Cheong Fun – Stuffed with char siew. Not bad though.

Char Siew Puff – WOW…this is a nice one! The pastry is so thin and crispy. The char siew meat/content is so full!

Egg Tarts (蛋挞) – Very yummy! Grab fast. Because it sold out pretty fast.

Check out the whole table filled with food! With just the 2 diners (Mel & Alex)

Second Round @ Tim Pan Gor Gor (甜品哥哥)

We guys just can’t stop talking craps! Done with our dinner (previous post). It was about 10pm. Just can’t get enough of it. Probably because everyone missing each other too much! As said; *THE MOON IS STILL YOUNG* gagagagaga….

We decided for to go for a second round. Supper perhaps. Since my car is big enough; so I ferried everyone at once(of cause the driver is Alex lah…).  Initially we thought of going to Snowflakes Dessert located at SS15; to our surprise it was so crowded. Therefore we switched to Asia Cafe. Dropped the idea very soon. As it was too warm! Mcdonald’s perhaps? Went across the road and spotted Tim Pan Gor Gor (甜品哥哥). Ahhh…finally we decided a place!

The colorful & attractive menu. Difficult to make a decision.

Sweet Potato Almond Sweet Soup – Tasty soup with rich almond taste

Water Chestnut Sweet Soup with Sago – It look more like pumpkin soup. Contains minced water chestnut.

Ginger Soup with Sesame & Peanut Rice Balls – Its ‘tong yuan’ with 2 black sesame & peanuts filling. The soup has strong ginger taste. Nice one!!

Mango Hor Fun – Its their signature item. I would say this is rather unique. The ‘Hor Fun’ made of coconut (coconut jelly strips) with big portion of Mango. Taste GOOD!

Kiwi Fruit Ice – Lotsa kiwi fruit with blended ice

Mango Ice – Rich blended mango fruit and mango chunks with blended ice

Melon Juice – Ermm….this drink don’t really taste nice

REUNION @ Tasty Pot BBQ & Steamboat Buffet

A very first reunion we had ever since our trip to Taiwan. Really missing every moment we had in Taiwan. Therefore we decided to held a so-called reunion at Tasty Pot BBQ & Steamboat located at Sunway; where we can eat non-stop, while talks and laughs like nobody’s business is permissible too.  😀

Wanyi enlightened us that we gotto be early there in order to get a good seat & food!  So; Andrew picked all the 3 babes (Ashley, Wanyi & Mel) from Midvalley at about 5.45pm and reached there at about 6+pm. Since it was still early, we able to pick up all the newly displayed food!

Its a 4-Storey building. You may either sit at ground floor or the upper floors. I would prefer to sit at the open air area on ground floor.

An array of seafood

Assorted Vegetable & Dried Noodles

Huge Crabs & LaLa (Clams)

No doubt the crabs are huge. Unfortunately most of them we had were not fresh. Too bad….

Shishamo from the grilling corner.

The Grilling Corner comprised of crab, fish, sweet potato, prawns.

Ikan Bakar from the Grilling Corner & Fried Chicken Wings coated with honey from the Cooked Area. The fish aren’t that tasty. But you mustn’t miss the chicken wings. Its the best one overall (my personal opinion).

Grilled Lamb with Black Pepper Sauce.

Please ensure that you grab this fast. Or else you will end up in a long queue.

The dipping sauce

We ordered the yin yong pot with 2 different soup. We chose ‘herbal soup’ & ‘tom yam soup’. The tom yum soup is GOOD!

The boiling pot

Self-scooped Ice Cream

Mel, Jessie, WC @ MADAM KWAN’s

Finally I managed to make an arrangement with an agreement from both Jessie & Wei Chi. Apparently; this round goes without Yee Mei again. She couldn’t join. *sigh*. The 4 of us really difficult to meet. However no matter how difficult it is; we will try to make an effort to meet. Normally it will be in Seremban. But this round, we held it at Midvalley. No doubt it just few hours and a simple lunch; it worth more than that.

Wei Chi and I; we both lazy to think of what to eat, so we just divert the brain cracking to Jessie (the decision maker) to decide then. Wahaha….

Therefore we went to Madam Kwan’s for our lunch. We were there about 12+pm; I would consider that as early. Otherwise we gotto wait to be seated.

The atmosphere was good. They serves fusion food. More on hawker, Nyonya cuisine. Nevertheless they do serves western food too.

Nasi Bojari (RM19++) — Tri-coloured rice with assam prawns, beef rendang and deep fried chicken drumstick(ayam goreng berempah). The drumstick was large & tasty too. Besides that, If you do not take beef, you can always change it for chicken.

Nasi Lemak (RM14.20) — Their signature food. Aromatic coconut steamed rice served with chicken curry, sambal ikan bilis, dried shrimp floss, hard boiled egg, acar and fresh cucumber.

Assam Laksa (RM12.30) — Lai fun served in aromatic tamarind broth with fish, cucumber and onions. I personally like this very much. The soup is sourish & lil spicy with rich minced fish. Very appetizing!

Our Drinks. All from the Lemon & Lime family. Wahahah….

There’s a restaurant newly opened near my house; located at City Park Seremban 2. Therefore I suggested to dad to try the food there. Moreover its on Sunday; it would be more like a family day.

To my surprise; the interior of the restaurant is quite nice and the design is rather modern too.

I like this stairs. It would be nice if a bride would to pose while walking up/ down the stairs ^^
