A&W Seremban, brings back childhood memories.

Mesmerizing the childhood memories at A&W Seremban.

Photo taken on Year 2015

When I was a kid, there weren’t much choices of fast food joints especially in Seremban unlike big city in Kuala Lumpur. There weren’t Mcdonalds, KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut & etc. I remember vividly there was only Grandy’s (not sure if you could remember this name. Its no longer exist here anymore. The cinnamon roll and mashed potato was good!), and A&W which hang on till today.

Other than ice cream in root beer, ice cream on waffle, A&W in Seremban used to serve ice creams during 80s and 90s. I could fondly remember that banana split and chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup served in a glass cup! They were my favorite. Not forgetting the mint flavor ice cream! Unfortunately they are no longer having that ice cream kiosk today.

I managed to find a photo that I’ve captured at year 2010 when my family & I had Ice Cream supper at A&W Seremban.

A&W restaurant in Seremban is a stand alone outlet located at the Lake Garden Seremban, its an iconic landmark in Seremban since year 1978. I also remember the playground which was demolished to give way for drive-thru. *Sigh…kinda sad though.

On year 2015, A&W Seremban made an announcement about closing its door to make way for renovation. It created a huge beeline patronizing the outlet for the last time.

I also joined the last leap before it was closed for renovation. It was back at year 2015.

The renovation took quite sometime. Which many of us earlier thought its gonna be closed permanently.

Year 2022, A&W with its new outlook! Apparently it is the first A&W in Malaysia having Jamaica Blue coffee together.

Let’s take a look on the interior. Looking so vibrant with the retro touch.

Love the reflection of the Lake
Good Foof, Good Times….yeahh….don’t you agree?
Which is your favorite pick?

I’m gonna try the fried chicken. I heard some of my friends commented that it is nice!

Come to A&W, Root Beer is something you must order lor….

Be it with ice cream or without.

Ini macam barulah YES! The aroma and flavor is so fresh, that its different from those canned ones.

A jug of cold brew Root Beer on a hot afternoon is so refreshing!

A&W has added rice on their menu to suit the Asian taste bud, its called Nasi Aroma, (with sambal on it).

I did not put high expectations on it. But since some of my friends said they preferred A&W fried chicken over the others famous fast food outlets. Hence I gave it a try.

A&W’s fried chicken (Golden Aroma Chicken) was surprisingly nice! The skin was crispy and not too salty. Meat was tender and not bland. You gotta dine in there to taste its freshest point.

Then comes to Coney Dog, which is one of their signature item since last time! Those days it was only available in Beef. I am very happy that now they’ve added chicken selection on Coney Dog, for non-beef eaters.

Not forgetting also the waffle! Its a classic item too. I still think the waffle is nice compared to some cafes which charge you at high price. Introducing the new flavor, Cendol Gula Melaka. Do you know that this waffle is now available in cup too? Its more convenient for takeaway orders.

If malam-malam mau supper, can opt for Drive-Thru too. 🙂

So, malam ni nak ke A&W? hehe……

Lunch @The Beast Cafe, Uptown Avenue Seremban 2

One may overlooked this place. Tucked in between restaurants and offices, we locate The Beast Cafe at a popular makan spot at Uptown Avenue Seremban 2.

The Beast Cafe gives cafe hoppers another option to hangout with family and friends.

Printed menu with photos as reference, made it easier for viewing. The menu comprised of breakfast, salad, main dish, finger food, drinks and desserts.

Apparently, Iberico Pork is one of the specialty meat in this cafe.

The Iberian pig is a traditional breed of the domestic pig that is native to the Iberian Peninsula. The pigs are allowed to roam in pastures and oak groves, feasting on natural grass, herbs and lots of acorns. Acorns are rich in oleic acid, the same found in olive oil. Thus an Iberian pig is refer as “walking olive trees”.

The Beast Iberico Burger – RM34.90

Iberico pork meat, sandwiched in between fresh lettuce and soft burger buns is served with fries. The meat is non-ordinary pork that we get in the local market. For burger, they uses pork belly. The meat is then nicely grilled to a perfect timing otherwise it will be overcooked and rubbery. In my opinion the meat is smooth and juicy, consist of fine marble fat that literally melts after chewing in mouth.

Other than burger, Iberico pork is also prepared in rice, pasta and rissoto.

with Modern minimalist interior.

The Beast Cafe is a cosy and quiet place with soothing background music.

English Breakfast – RM17.90

Consist of Toast bread, Mix Salad (with sesame dressing), Sausage, Bacon, Scrambled Egg, Baked Beans. (Available daily from 12pm-4pm)

Aglio Olio with Prawn – RM17.90

Al-dente spaghetti is cooked with olive oil and mixture of homemade herbs. Garnished with fresh, plump prawns and Parmesan cheese. (Do request for more chili flakes if you like it spicier).

Hearty Cold Pressed Juice – RM11.90

(Carrot + Apple + Orange)

Cold-pressed juice refers to juice that uses a hydraulic press to extract juice from fruit and vegetables. It is popular among the youngsters. It is just a hype or healthier? Using a hydraulic press, will crush your ingredients in order to extract the greatest quantity of juice possible without compromising the nutrient quality. In this case, it is wholly made from fruit and vegetables, and are free from added sugars and preservatives.

Rose Latte – RM10.90

Freshly brewed cup of coffee made of Arabica Coffee Beans with hint of Rose flavor. I am not a coffee expert, but I am a coffee lover. This cuppa coffee was rich, smooth and aromatic. Nevertheless the rose flavor did not overpower the coffee taste.

Strawberry Smoothie – RM11.90

Fancy a glass of icy cold strawberry smoothie to quench your thirst? The Strawberry Smoothie here has the right ratio of strawberry and milk! Topped with a scoop of your choice of ice cream. Gives it a whole new flavor after the ice cream melts in the drink. Mine was topped with a scoop of mint ice cream. Hence I got a minty strawberry after taste.

Chocobanana Waffles – RM17.90

Stacks of Chocolate crispy waffles, slices of bananas, cranberries, drizzled with chocolate sauce and topped with a scoop of ice cream.

The Piggy Bank – RM19.90

I’m amazed with the cuteness of this dessert. Well, I assumed most of the girls and kids would fall for this. How much do you love your dessert. If there’s a chance, I would love to have a dessert after meal. Its just like there’s a sweet ending in life.

*lets break the piggy bank to get some content*

The pink coated outer shell is made of white chocolate.

It is filled with 61% Dark Chocolate Mousse, layered with Double Dutch Blackforest Cake and Pitted Dark Sweet Seneca Cherries. Not too sweet I felt. But if you are not a sweet tooth person, you may compliment it with the sliced fruits on dish. As strawberries and kiwis, they are more acidic, hence it balanced the sweetness.

Unlike some common desserts that we used to see, The Beast Cafe strive to serve some ‘up to trend’ desserts for the customers. Although The Beast Cafe serves Western cuisine, but in order to suit family diners with young and old, the thoughtful owner decided to make both Western and Fusion available on their menu.

Meals @Ninja Kitchen Seremban

**NO LONGER AVAILABLE**

When I mentioned Ninja Joe, everyone would probably remember their signature pork burgers. It was then the first fast food outlet which serves delicious pork burgers.

Tell me, who doesn’t like pork burgers.

I remember how tedious it was when my mom has to prepare pork patties from scratch to make a delicious pork burger.

A short conversation with Pat, the person who manages the outlet.

Ninja Joe was created by Serembanian.

Why did you renamed Ninja Joe to Ninja Kitchen whereby the KL outlets are still remained as Ninja Joe?

After operating for a period of time, I noticed that the elderly people here are not too fond of burgers. I decided to make some changes to the menu which caters for patrons of all ages, young to old. Hence, I came up with the idea to add some Asian and local food to my menu. Therefore, that’s how I renamed the Seremban outlet to Ninja Kitchen.

Ninja Kitchen located at Matrix Court, Jalan Lobak. (same row as Tarot Cafe)

cosy environment here.

Pat was explaining the new addition. In Malaysia, we can’t live without Nasi Lemak. Do you agree? Hainanese Chops & Nasi Lemak are the local favorites.

Udonburi (udon), of Japanese style.

Donburi (rice) of Japanese style.

Together with my makan kakis, we started off with a glass of Coconut Shake (RM8.90), is one of their best seller drink. I was told that they uses all the natural ingredients from Coconut (without adding water) to blend a glass of refreshing coconut shake.

Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM12.90)

Its difficult to get a nice hainanese chicken chop these days. Ninja Kitchen did it well. Big slab of battered chicken which was well marinated. Goes well with the sauce they prepared.

If you are a fan of pork, perhaps you can go for Grilled Pork Chop (RM12.90). Having the same sauce as hainanese chicken chop but its replaced with pork. Pieces of pork were grilled to perfection. Meat remain tender and juicy. I was told that the meat was of pig’s shoulder. That gives a nice texture when you bite it.

Nasi Lemak Chili Chicken (RM9.90)

Looking at the vibrant colors, it sure gain some attractions. Rice was aromatic, fluffy and ‘lemak’. When I said lemak, it means it has rich santan taste. Rice and sambal plays an important role in a plate of nasi lemak. It comes with a piece of chili chicken, bull’s eye egg, sambal, peanuts & anchovies, cucumber, acar (seasonal). I also like their sambal, which cooks with anchovies and onions. Its not too spicy nor watery. Just nice for my liking.

Again, if you are a fan of pork, you can opt for Nasi Lemak Pork Chop (RM10.90). Voila…this is something I rarely find outside. Slab of boneless pork as sides in a plate of nasi lemak! Although its fried, but the meat still remain tender.

Cajun is one of their new burger. Delicious pork patty, caramelized onions, green bell pepper, tomato, lettuce and dressing, sandwiched between crispy burger buns.

Pokemon is another new burger. This was created due to the pokemon fever. Pork patty is wrapped in a fried omelet.

Battle between Cajun and Pokemon. I’ll go for Cajun. Hehe…I like the lil spicy after taste.

Wanna have some light snacks? Perhaps a Komba Bao (RM9.90). Comes with 3 tasty braised pork belly with shredded lettuce, sandwiched in a fried mantau bun.

Fried Chicken – 2pcs (RM8.90) has crispy flavorful skin (like the ayam goreng berempah), while the meat was juicy and tender.

Fried Chicken vs. Komba Bao? Arghhh…tough choice. I’m liking both of them!

Generally at Ninja Kitchen, the food prices are affordable. Nevertheless, apart from burgers Ninja Kitchen received very good response on their Hainanese Chicken Chop & Nasi Lemak.

Ninja Kitchen’s tagline; “In this place, we share everything from food to love.”

Ninja Joe has arrived Seremban

Hiak Hiak Hiak…… good news to Serembanian. Ninja Joe has arrived Seremban. Heard so much about their ‘pork burger’… somehow this was my first time trying it. *malunya… 😀

Located at Matrix Court, Jalan Lobak… the ninja arrived on June 13, 2014. Received overwhelming response from the Seremban folks!

You know what… the founder of Ninja Joe is actually a Serembanian. But how come they don’t open it in Seremban first hor? *feeling curious*

*trying to decide what to order from the simple one page menu*

Ninja Joe is an original Japanese quick serve concept best known for delicious pork burgers!

Chefs at work. More grilling and frying of pork patties and bacon. Yummss…

The dining area is rather small with limited seating place. Hmm… I suggest they should improvise their ventilation system. Because the kitchen area is quite open. In result the place was kinda smokey.

Chuck – RM15.90/set

Named after the one and only Chuck Norris, this burger is packed with everything = Juicy quarter pound pork patty, a whole egg, cheese, crunchy veg, topped with crispy onion rings and most importantly…REAL BACON!!

Spicy Ninja – RM8.90/ set (comes with crinkle cut fries & a drink)

Oriental Ninja – RM8.90/set (substitute fries with Shurikens by topping up RM2). Shurikens are deep fried mashed potato + pork patties. I felt the texture was abit tad soft but tasty!

Shuko – RM6.90. Like our Chinese mantao with pork belly. The warm and soft mantao sandwiched with tasty pork belly was delicious.

Look at my baby’s face expression! I think he was drooling too. Just like mummy….. hehehe….

Verdict : I like their soft burger buns and also the tasty and moist pork patties! Yummeh….

Big Mouth Burger, New Burger Outlet @Seremban

Big Mouth Burger, the new burger place in Seremban. I’m glad that the burger fever from KL has finally arrived in Seremban. To cater for Seremban folks. *Hepi*

Honestly I couldn’t catch up with the burger fever in KL. Too many choices already. LOL!

I gotto know about Big Mouth Burger via reading Sean’s post Big Mouth Burger @ Bandar Sunway

Thanks to Sean for sharing this new location.

I dropped a message on their Facebook page to inquire about the opening day because I wanted to pay a visit on that weekend, right after reading Sean’s post. hehe…. Got a replied message from them and was happy to know that they’ll open for business on Saturday. So, I decided to go there for dinner on that day itself.

I went there on Saturday night. But the official opening day was on Sunday. The place was quite vacant when I arrived. But later, customers started coming in. Not much though…probably not many people know about their existence yet.

Using construction material such as scaffolding, safety helmets as part of the interior deco.

self service basis just like other fast food joint.

Together with my mom and my brother, we were there to try out their burger. Looking at the menu, looks like there are more beef choices than chicken. Unfortunately we don’t take beef…looks like not much of choice for us. However I was told that, in future they’ll gonna add in more chicken choice into their menu. Well…that’s a good thing 😉

Types of sauce for your burger and fries.

Ya…. you do need a ‘Big Mouth’ for their 8 inch size, Big Mouth Burger! 😀

I chose Bloody Mary (RM15.80) under the Veggie category. Flamed grilled juicy tomato, mushrooms on hash brown finished with cheese. The fries are served together with the burger.

I like their charcoal bun which is soft and fluffy. I also like their hash brown and fries. They are crispy but not dry.

Mom and brother picked Pearl Harbour (RM13.80) – under the Chicken category. Flame grilled juicy old fashion teriyaki patties topped with cheese and sandwich with deep fried onion rings.

Side view of ‘Pearl Harbour’.  I like the patty. Its tasty and juicy. The onion rings are addictive too. Nice nibbling stuff.

Verdict : You can also add on cheese or beef bacon to your burger. Soft drinks and hot drinks are priced from RM2.80. I find that their onion rings (RM4.50 for 10pcs) are pretty affordable. Sampling both burgers here, I preferred ‘Pearl Harbour’.

Dinner @Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw, SS15 Subang Jaya

With saving up to 52%, I get to enjoy Single Beef Baconizer and Single Chicken Turkeynizer for just RM5! What a steal. Thanks to the discounted deal on Living Social. I’ve heard about people giving positive reviews on their burger. Therefore this is a good chance to join in the  burger craze. Currently there are 7 outlets in Klang Valley.

Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw founded in April 2011 by two young Malaysian entrepreneurs, Mohd Faizul Baharudin and Nini Haznita Muhammad.

20130310_201031

The main branch is located at Seksyen 2, Wangsa Maju. At SS15, it is the only Diner Restaurant. While the other 6 outlets are just burger stall or street kiosk.

20130310_201445

Just like other fast food joints…self service. But this is slightly different. You place and pay your order. Get your number, as printed on the receipt and wait for your number to be call. Although there were many customers, but we did not wait too long for our food to be ready. Ermm….if I’m not mistaken, it was not more than 15minutes. Its an open kitchen..you can probably watch how they prepare the burgers. Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw claimed making homemade patty by themselves and not the frozen patty sold in the supermarkets. So, I assumed the freshness is there.

20130310_201829

Add on soft drinks

20130310_201840

And also fries with cheesy cream + mayonnaise.

20130310_201904

Alex had Single Beef Baconizer. Alex said the beef patty was good.

20130310_201945

I had Single Chicken Turkeynizer. I like my burger. Thick, crispy and succulent fried chicken fillet with turkey slice, lettuce, a slice of cheese and dressing. Ohh ya, the bread was not dry too.

20130310_202021I felt the burger here are quite good. Judging the portion, I would say the price is not expensive. A single patty is more than enough for me. Really full after eating together with the fries and a drink.

20130310_202727

Eat burger is more shiok to hold with both of your hands right. But how to handle big stack burger? I don’t want to open my mouth as huge as an alligator or getting messy. Do share your way of eating burger 😉
