Tea Break @Midorie x The Owls Cafe, MyTOWN Shopping Centre KL

I’ve missed out this post. I thought I should blog about this place because I felt there’s something nice to share about this cafe.

End of December 2019, we went shopping at MyTOWN Shopping Centre in KL.

We also visited IKEA Cheras, connected via MyTOWN Shopping Centre. We strolled around and goofed around too 😉

Then, when it comes to tea break I decided to try out Midorie x The Owls Cafe. This cafe was put in KIV list during my previous visit to the mall. Hence I decided to dine here this round.

Midorie x The Owls Cafe, is often crowded over the weekends. Thus I was put in waiting list to wait for a vacant table. Luckily the waiting time was quick. In less than 10 minutes, they called me.

The dining area is considered small compared to the other outlets.

This cafe’s signature item has to be the WAFFLE. If you are a fan of waffle… I ensured that you will have tough choice. Whether you like it sweet or savory. I couldn’t decide. I wished there were more people to share with me so that I can order more. LOL. :-p

Although it was crowded, but food were served quite fast.

Milo Dinosaur – RM15

Milo never goes wrong with anything. The waffle has a nice texture and not overly sweet batter. Crispy outside and fluffy inside. Topped with dark chocolate ice cream, koko krunch, marshmallow, and milo powder.

Iced Latte – RM12

They even have kids menu! wow….

Junior Red Bolog (RM10) , Macaroni chicken bolognese, topped with torched cheese.

Macaroni was cooked al-dente, whilst evenly coated with chicken bolognese sauce. It was so flavorful and well-balanced.

Chicky Bites (RM8) Fried Chicken Nuggets and homemade chicken bites.

Crispy yet tender chicken bites and the nuggets that I was eating consists of real chicken meat. Unlike some fast food joint.

Besides that, I felt that portion of kids meals were quite generous too.

All in all, the waffle was just like how I wanted it to be, the thick kind. Therefore, when I have a chance I will definitely revisit to try more waffles 🙂

p/s: I saw people around me were all having different kind of dishes, and it looked yummy. :-p

Scarborough Fish and Chips @Tanjung Rhu, Langkawi

Before this, I read many positive reviews about Scarborough Fish and Chips at Tanjung Rhu, Langkawi. Many claimed that their Fish & Chips is very nice.

Therefore during my recent trip to Langkawi, I pay a visit here for some light snacks. Tanjung Rhu is at another end of Langkawi island. Hence driving from Kuah to Scarborough Fish and Chips restaurant, it may take about 30 minutes drive.

This restaurant is quite secluded, road was rather empty and quiet. With few units of chalets along the road. Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is located 1.2km away from this restaurant.
Scarborough Fish and Chips restaurant is the blue color house. But you may miss it if you didn’t aware of its signage.

Apart from the fish & chips, the restaurant is located along the beach (Andaman Sea) which is a bonus point.

IMG_20180326_110009

Apparently Fish & Chips is the specialty here. Made to order with not only one type of fish. But varies from Dory to Salmon which allows diners to choose according to their budget.

On menu, apart from fish there are also choice of meat, pizza and snacks. Not forgetting they also serve an affordable breakfast set from RM10 onward.

I ordered the Deep Fried Snow Fish – RM30.

DSC05299

2 slabs of fish battered with tempura flour was served hot. Flavors was good and its fresh. As you can see it is served with home made chips and some mixed salad as sides.

I also ordered some Chicken Nuggets (RM12) for the kids. The chicken nuggets are not the processed meat that we got from fast food restaurant. But its made of real chicken meat. It was crispy and tender. The kids love it.

The beach here is definitely less touristy compared to Pantai Cenang. Seawater was translucent clear that I could see tiny fishes swimming ashore.

Such a relaxing view. Serene and breathtaking, even the dog is enjoying his relaxing life.

Love this selfie shot I took with the dog. Feel so lovely. A very friendly dog I met. Probably owned by the restaurant owner. 🙂

Ben’s General Food Store @The Gardens Mall KL

I read about list of kids friendly cafe or food joints in KL. I so wanted to bring my son to one of those. Especially with indoor playground. I’m sure he’ll have fun.

DSC04982

Ben’s General Food Store at The Gardens Mall KL came in the list. Managed by The BIG Group, located at a reputable mall in KL.

DSC04976

When I was at this mall, I decided to check out this restaurant. Ben’s General Food Store is located at second floor towards Robinsons.

DSC04978

I was there with my family for lunch. The restaurant was already half occupied.

DSC04980

Their menu was very simple with just wordings and no photos attached. Kids meal are also available on the menu. We placed our order soon after browsing through the menu.

My mom was sitting comfortably here while I went around checking out this place and accompany my son to their playground or play area.

DSC04981

This restaurant is quite spacious and also stroller friendly.

The different types of dining tables available here. You will have more options when its not crowded. The above photo is nearer to the play area.

Okay, time to get seated. I think the food is ready.

DSC04997

ABC Chicken Soup – RM6 (kid portion), for my son.

DSC04998

Hainanese Chicken Rice – RM30

Served with poached chicken breast, ginger sauce and a bowl of steamed rice. Rice was quite fluffy, portion was generous too. I don’t really fancy chicken breast unless you are a fan of chicken breast. 🙂

DSC04999

Nasi Ulam with Ayam Percik – RM33 (sorry for the blurry photo)

A Malaysian delicacy rice dish served with a piece of ayam percik, salted egg, ulam (raw vegetables), keropok ikan and budu as condiments. My mom claimed that this nasi ulam was yummy.

DSC05000

Traditional Carbonara – RM35

DSC05002

I am a fan of Carbonara. Hence this serving was all for me. This al-dente spaghetti was cooked with cream sauce, then topped with crispy chicken bits, Parmesan cheese and a poached egg.

DSC05004

Cakes on shelf. Types of cakes available on their menu are; Red Velvet Cake, Coconut Cake, Banoffee Cake, Lemon Meringue Cake, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cake, Black Forest Cake, Salted Caramel Macadamia Cheesecake, Apple Crumble Tart. Price varies from RM15-18.

DSC04991

Food prices are above average. But I would say its a nice family store or a place that I can catch up with my ‘aunty’ friends while kids can have fun too 😀

Lunch @An Viet, The Gardens Mall

Ăn Viet, which literally means to “Eat Viet”, is a casual dining restaurant serving authentic Vietnamese food.

Apparently the first outlet is at The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City which opened on 11 November 2015. While the second outlet is at Sunway Pyramid which has a bigger dining area.

Mid Valley has been my favorite shopping mall, hence I visited their outlet here. I often see crowd when it comes to peak hour ; especially during lunch and dinner period. I tried to be earlier yet it was full house. I gave my name and number of guest to the staff, as I was told to come back in half an hour time. Making use of the waiting time, lets go for grocery shopping at Jaya Grocer which is just few doors away.

At An Viet, their motto is to Minimise Global Food Wastage and at the same time for each person who finishes his or her entire meal, Ăn Viet will set aside RM0.10 for Food Aid Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that collects and distributes food to those in need.

I really like their move! Eat what you can. Eat for good cause.

Their food menu comprised of appetizer, rice and noodles. Quite a varieties too.

Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Condensed Milk (CÀ PHÊ SỮA) – RM8.90 (Cold)

If you like Vietnamese Coffee, you should give this a try. Its quite rich and aromatic.

Lemongrass & Ginger Drink (XẢ GỪNG) – RM7.90 (Hot)

This drink is available in jug as well as cold too. If you are not a lemongrass person, you may find this drink too strong of lemongrass. Otherwise its a healthy drink.

Grilled Rice Paper with Minced Pork (BÁNH TRÁNG NƯỚNG) – RM9.90

This is like a savory pancake with very thin and crispy crust. Filled with minced pork and it has a lil spiciness in it. It was grilled. Thus its not so oily.

For the main dish, it comes in ala-carte and sets.
We went along with set menu, which I thought its value for money. The set menu comes with rice/noodle + Vietnamese Fresh Spring Roll + Clam in Coconut Broth (for single serving)

Claypot Fish & Pork Belly with Caramel Sauce (CÁ KHO TỘ) – RM21.90/set

Gravy taste was nice, so does the pork belly. But I dislike the fish because it has plenty of bones.

Grilled Lemongrass Chicken (GÀ NƯỚNG XẢ ỚT) – RM19.90/set

The were 2 big slabs of chicken meat skewed in lemongrass and put to grill. The chicken meat was nicely grilled and well marinated.

I like both the side dishes that comes in the set menu.

Clam in Coconut Broth, tasted light and appetizing. Because of the sourish and spicy after taste.

Vietnamese Fresh Spring Roll, filling is very fresh and crunchy wrapped with thin translucent rice paper.

I want this! (car) I want that! (aeroplane). Kids were thrilled when they saw the kids menu offered here.

AEROPLANE – Set comes with Chicken Wing, Fried Spring Roll, Fried Egg, Prawn cracker, Rice and a Vitagen drink.

SPORT CAR – Set comes with Pork Chop, Fried Spring Roll, Braised Egg, Prawn cracker, Rice and a Vitagen drink.

Actually I was quite pleased that they actually served kids set here. They served it in attractive way. The food portion is quite big for kid. Moreover the price is just RM14.80.

Most of the dishes here uses Fish sauce. If you love to cook and would like to get a bottle of this good quality Vietnam Fish sauce, you can purchase it here too. At price of ±RM25 (sorry, I’ve forgotten the exact price).

Verdict : Apart from the crowded and busy ambiance, I do feel that the food here is quite good. There were many other dishes that I wish to try out someday.
