Ben’s General Food Store @The Gardens Mall KL

I read about list of kids friendly cafe or food joints in KL. I so wanted to bring my son to one of those. Especially with indoor playground. I’m sure he’ll have fun.

DSC04982

Ben’s General Food Store at The Gardens Mall KL came in the list. Managed by The BIG Group, located at a reputable mall in KL.

DSC04976

When I was at this mall, I decided to check out this restaurant. Ben’s General Food Store is located at second floor towards Robinsons.

DSC04978

I was there with my family for lunch. The restaurant was already half occupied.

DSC04980

Their menu was very simple with just wordings and no photos attached. Kids meal are also available on the menu. We placed our order soon after browsing through the menu.

My mom was sitting comfortably here while I went around checking out this place and accompany my son to their playground or play area.

DSC04981

This restaurant is quite spacious and also stroller friendly.

DSC04986

The different types of dining tables available here. You will have more options when its not crowded. The above photo is nearer to the play area.

I preferred to supervise my kid although its an indoor playground. In case he play rough, I can correct him on the spot.

Okay, time to get seated. I think the food is ready.

DSC04997

ABC Chicken Soup – RM6 (kid portion), for my son.

DSC04998

Hainanese Chicken Rice – RM30

Served with poached chicken breast, ginger sauce and a bowl of steamed rice. Rice was quite fluffy, portion was generous too. I don’t really fancy chicken breast unless you are a fan of chicken breast. 🙂

DSC04999

Nasi Ulam with Ayam Percik – RM33 (sorry for the blurry photo)

A Malaysian delicacy rice dish served with a piece of ayam percik, salted egg, ulam (raw vegetables), keropok ikan and budu as condiments. My mom claimed that this nasi ulam was yummy.

DSC05000

Traditional Carbonara – RM35

DSC05002

I am a fan of Carbonara. Hence this serving was all for me. This al-dente spaghetti was cooked with cream sauce, then topped with crispy chicken bits, Parmesan cheese and a poached egg.

DSC05004

Cakes on shelf. Types of cakes available on their menu are; Red Velvet Cake, Coconut Cake, Banoffee Cake, Lemon Meringue Cake, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cake, Black Forest Cake, Salted Caramel Macadamia Cheesecake, Apple Crumble Tart. Price varies from RM15-18.

DSC04991

Food prices are above average. But I would say its a nice family store or a place that I can catch up with my ‘aunty’ friends while kids can have fun too 😀

Dazzling Cafe @Midvalley Megamall

**This premise is no longer available. It has been take over by Tokyo Secret Cafe.

The spot of for Gardens Lifestyle Cafe has been replaced by a well known cafe originate from Taiwan.

Dazzling Cafe is the name.

As quoted by Dazzling Cafe, it has been named one of the most famous cafes in Taiwan. Hence it is commonly frequented by celebrities and socialites and has been crowned as “A Celebrity Hotspot.”

Not only famous for its media personalities, but it is also renowned for its chic and classy interior decor.

I do agree that this cafe looks elegant and classy yet trendy. I guessed it also attracts much attention from shoppers because it is located near the link bridge connecting both Midvalley Megamall and The Gardens Mall. The bunny ears chairs looked catchy.

Turquoise & Grey color decorative flowers covering the wall and handrail towards the loaf area making it a nice backdrop for photo shooting.

Dazzling Cafe also serves All Day Breakfast

There wasn’t much choice of ‘main course’ dish. I was told that the Honey Toast is good and its their popular dessert here. Hmmm….that makes me think, most likely people come here for their dessert or during tea break.

We started off with Mentaiko Spaghetti with Cream Sauce RM29.90. It is a recommended dish shown on the menu. Mentaiko is Pollock Roe, tossed in the al-dente creamy spaghetti topped with nori seaweed. A few scallops were added to it. I like the crunchy roe texture on every bite of my spaghetti.

We also ordered a set of All day Breakfast. We chose Classic Big Breakfast RM25, which consist of grilled sausage, beef bacon, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, and scrambled eggs. The big breakfast was just alright. Quite normal I felt.

For the main course, we also ordered a Oven Roasted Whole Chicken Leg RM30.90. Roasted chicken paired with garlic cream spinach, sauteed mushroom. The chicken was tasty and tender. I do like the garlic cream spinach sauce eaten with the chicken. However I find the sauce abit salty.

Last but not least, we end our meal with the signature toast, Dazzling Classic Honey Toast RM20.90. Cubes of thick toast were stacked up in 2 layers, then topped with a scoop of  Häagen-Dazs ice cream and dripping strawberry sauce. The toast was slightly warm, a lil crust on the outer layer but fluffy and soft inside. I could taste the hint butter in it too. Was the yellow creamy thing, some sort of custard? Because it tasted like custard to me. 🙂 Anyway, the toast was very nice to be eaten with ice cream.

We wrapped up the meal with a lovely group photo taken here at Dazzling Cafe.

Verdict: Dazzling Cafe has nice ambiance. A nice dining place with friends and family. Food prices are on the high side. The only thing that I would love to re-visit is for the Honey Toast.

Dinner @Nichinan Jidoriya, Midvalley Megamall

I came across Groupon was having this deal from a Japanese Restaurant. Looks like a Japanese restaurant which I’ve not tried before. So, I thought since I’ll be going Boulevard Hotel for a family stay vacation, why not I purchase the coupon to bring my family there for dinner.

The deal was:-

  • Weekdays: RM20 for RM40 cash voucher
  • Weekends: RM24 for RM40 cash voucher

the AL-fresco dining section.

Nichinan Jidoriya is a non-halal Japanese restaurant. Offering an extensive menu and its reasonably priced!

I like this wooden partition filled with all kinds of Japanese cups. Very creative!

From left:-

Seseri (RM5)

Hotate Buta Maki (RM6)

Kappa Maki (RM6)

Soft Shell Crab Nama Harumaki (RM18)

Soft Shell Crab Nama Harumaki was very nice. Light, crunchy and fresh.

Sashimi Set – RM26

Besides a plate of sashimi, this set comes with rice, miso soup, salad, watermelon and a chanwanmushi. The chawanmushi was so smooth and slippery.

Buta Suki Set – RM18

Buta Suki Set serves in a boiling kimchi soup.

Curry Nabeyaki Udon to Mini Tori Karaage Don Set – RM20

Everything look so colorful!

My baby, already 11 months old now.

Dinner @Plan B, Midvalley

*A long overdue post* hehe….

A dinner I had at Plan B, few days before I went into labour. LOL!

My first visit to Plan B at Midvalley was memorable. Therefore I suggested to Alex to settle our dinner here.

I told him that I wanted to eat so many things before I go into labour. Somehow the space in my stomach restricted me from doing so 😦

Plain water is free of charge and refillable.

Alex ordered a cuppa Latte

Wild Mushroom Soup – RM13

finished with a swirl of cream

The mushroom soup was so rich and creamy with chunks of mushroom. I doubt I could finish all by myself.

Some of my friends complimented that their Asian Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti (RM26) is good. Therefore I thought why not give it a try. Soft shell crab, cili padi, crispy curry leaves & chili flakes in creamy butter sauce. I find it quite nice. Something we don’t come across in other restaurant cooking this way. The creamy butter sauce reminds me of crabs cooked with creamy butter sauce from those ‘tai chow’ restaurants. Yumss… By the way…. it wasn’t spicy pun….

Turkey Ham & Cheddar Toastie – RM17

with sweet potato fries and side salad.

Check out the turkey ham + cheese sandwiched in between 2 slices of fresh butter toasted bread. I like the sandwich, I also like the sweet potato fries. It is  interesting to serve sweet potato fries rather than the usual french fries which is quite common.

Ahh…when come to desserts, especially cakes..I am always spoiled with choice!! Finally I made a wise decision to choose Caramel Chocolate Banana Cake (RM11) to dapao back home. Really love the richness of this cake. Chocolate & banana can never go wrong! *abang adik* hehe….

I will visit again to try other food from their menu!

Dinner @ The Han Room, The Gardens Mall

Upon celebrating my 31st birthday (alamak….tak sangka I’m already 31 years old!), Alex asked what would I like to eat. Ya… he often let me decide.. therefore I hardly have surprises. LOL!!

This year, I’m telling Alex… I don’t feel like having Western or Japanese food. Lets go for Chinese cuisine 😀  I’ve heard many good reviews about this Chinese Restaurant that we intend to go to.

We put up a night at Cititel Hotel and then came here for dinner.

The Han Room is located very near to the entrance of The Gardens Hotel. Hmm… I should say, just next door.

We were served with this small plate of titbits (RM5). Its pretty addictive and nice. Not those dull looking titbits that I usually had. The above titbits has mild spiciness, comprised of crunchy peanuts, long beans, fried beancurd.

I’m not a tea expert, but I like to choose Chinese tea over other drinks when I dine in a Chinese restaurant.

Alex was still enjoying the titbits while we were waiting for our food to arrive. I like the ambiance here.

An appetizing Paku in Spicy Sauce (RM8)  ,a cold dish as our starter dish. It wasn’t really spicy actually. Crunchy fern mixed with shallots and dried shrimps. The dressing is abit spicy and sourish, something like kerabu.

Our meat platter. 2 combinations – Roasted Pork + BBQ Pork (RM30) with dipping sauce. I dislike the yellow dipping sauce. The smell was so strong. I think its made of ‘bamboo shoots’. While the red one is chili sauce.

The beancurd (center) came together with meat. The beancurd was really smooth. Love both ‘siew yuk’ and ‘char siew’. Juicy and succulent!! Not forgetting there were not much of fats attached. Love them! I’m sure you have your favorite place for siew yuk or char siew. 😉

It was a gloomy evening. Why not order a soup dish. We chose Braised Lobster Soup in Pumpkin – RM28.

The soup portion was enough for both of us. Rich flavors and ingredients. Each scoop has spoonful of lobster meat. The soup taste kinda reminds me of shark fins soup 🙂 Don’t worry….there ain’t any shark fins in the soup.

Pumpkin vs. My Face. My Face wins…. LOL!!

Then came this bowl of ‘geng’ noodle.

Fresh Water Prawn with ‘Hor Fun’ in Superior Prawn Soup – RM25

The soup flavor was so rich. Robust flavors of prawn roe. And the hor fun was smooth too. Nice to have this especially on rainy day.

Alex doing the un-shell job 😉

Only half piece of fresh water prawn was served with the hor fun. No doubt the prawn size was quite big lar.

Before ending the dinner… I wanna have some desserts! I ordered Thousand Layered Cake (Ma Lai Kou) – RM6. It was served warm and the texture was light and spongy. However it doesn’t look as though it has many layers pun. T_T

Last one would be tong sui for a sweet ending. Hehehe…. Mango Sago with Pomelo – RM8. Hmm… the mango sago tong sui was just average. I deducted points because the pomelo has bitter taste 😦

Alex also got me a small moist chocolate cake by Delectable. Its called 7 sins of chocolate. Wa…so sinful! (Chocolate cake crumbles with chocolate ganache dollops, topped with a generous layer of chocolate mousse, chocolate nibs, chocolate buttons and cocoa dustings) Okay…there goes my 31st birthday celebration. Muak Muak….  😉

Verdict : At Han Room, the food prices are of course higher than those normal Chinese Restaurant. But speaking about the environment, service and the quality of food I had, I’m pretty satisfied. After all its a once in a while thing ma. They do offer dim sum and set menus. You can drop by their website to take a look.

Lunch with GFs @Plan B, Midvalley

Hooray….now I can finally say I’ve been to Plan B! Not Plan A, B, C,…. its the makan place called Plan B, by the BIG Group. So many people have reviewed about this place. Felt so left out lar…. Mid of last month, when we were having a meet up, it was a good chance for us to go for Plan B since everyone of us couldn’t decide a makan place.

This deco using multiples potted plants made it look nice and special. Pretty obvious if you are entering from Midvalley’s South Entrance.

The non-photo illustration menu looks like a note pad. “When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade”..HAHA!! We should always think positively?

We chose and ordered few different dishes from the menu. We decided to share them so that each of us could get a chance to try all 3 items that we’ve ordered.

A bottle of plain water with glasses were served as we seated. *very efficient* The water is free of charge and its refillable. My friend commented that the bottle looks like those bottles we used to see in laboratory during school days.

We ordered Plan B Breakfast Platter – RM26.

2 eggs any style, served on toast with grilled turkey bacon, a golden hash brown, smoked chicken sausage, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms & cherry tomatoes. Comes with fresh orange juice & a choice of coffee or tea.

Means… this breakfast platter comes with 2 cups of drinks. But we requested to have a bigger glass of orange juice instead of coffee or tea. However I felt that this plate of breakfast was quite ordinary. Something I could easily prepared at home too.

Our second dish arrived, Carbonara – RM20

spaghettini with turkey ham & sauteed mushrooms, tossed in classic creamy sauce.

I kinda like their carbonara. Its not too cloying, al dente spaghetti. Overall it tasted good.

*I noticed something…. my carbonara serving size is smaller than I read from other blogs who’ve ordered the same dish wor….  😦

We saw from the menu, a whole page consists of burgers and sandwiches. So, we pick randomly and decided on The Loaded Club Sandwich – RM21

All burgers and sandwiches are served with a side of house salad. Our choice of sandwich was not bad.

What was the filling? grilled chicken, crispy turkey bacon, roasted capsicum & avocado-feta mash stacked on egg mayo spread on home-made white bread.

served with home-made chips. – Taro and Sweet Potato Chips…they are addictive!

Meet our chubby Abel jai… all became part-time nanny of the day ^_^

*sigh..a blurry photo taken by the waitress* nice to catch up with you gals… CHEERS!

Lunch @Kyung Joo Korean Restaurant, Midvalley Megamall

Annyeonghaseyo.

Jai Jinesseyo.

~translated as “Hello. How are you?”

I like eating Korean food. Especially Kimchi! Also the irresistible Kimchi Jigae. Just like how much I can’t say no to Tom Yam soup 😉

I thought its a good buy when I saw livingsocial was offering;

Dolsot Bibimbab (6 choices) + 3 Side Dishes + Free Flow Green Tea

for just RM10.

I grabbed 5 coupons and went together with my family over the weekend.

Kyung Joo Korean Restaurant is located at the 3rd floor of Midvalley Megamall- the cinema floor. There’s a staircase to walk up to the restaurant which is above Taiwan Recipe.

I also noticed part of the customers here were redeeming their coupon. I suppose its a good deal that you should not miss?

There were 6 choices of bibimbap(stone pot mixed rice) for us to choose from.

– Fried Beef
– Spicy Octopus
– Kimchi Chicken
– Spicy Squid
– Curry Chicken
– Curry Beef

Refillable iced green tea to quench your thirst before food is served.

I chose Kimchi Chicken Bibimbap. Korean rice served in hot stone topped with lettuce, generous amount of kimchi chicken and a beautiful sunny yolk.

3 side dishes varies daily. We got here were kimchi, water crest vegetable and radish.

This is what it look after mixing everything in the bowl. The hot stone bowl able to keep my rice warm till my last spoon. I would prefer it to be spicier…more hot sauce perhaps. hehe…..

Mummy and Marcus had Curry Chicken Bibimbap. The curry taste wasn’t tad strong..and its not spicy either. If you can’t take spicy food….no worries about their curry chicken 😉

Alex had their Curry Beef Bibimbap. The beef were thinly slice. Not tough but tasty.

Stirring the ingredients thoroughly before eating.

Michele had Spicy Octopus Bibimbap. Becos octopus is her favorite! 😉

I also added an additional Grilled Pork Platter (RM39.90). I asked the waiter to do the grilling job. hehe…..

How to eat these grilled pork? Wrapped with fresh lettuce leaves, with rice, thinly sliced garlic, ssamjang (a mixture of gochujang and dwenjang).

Whole table filled with food!!

Verdict : Overall a decent and satisfied Korean food. The only downside I felt was the restaurant abit cramp and warm.

Lunch @ Waku Waku Restaurant, Midvalley

During a lunch outing with my girlfriends, 2 weeks ago..

I suggested  Waku Waku Restaurant, Midvalley. I knew about this place after reading it from Sean of Eat Drink KL and Baby Sumo of Eat your heart out.

Both of them shared nice reviews and photos about this place. Apart from that…the price seems to be quite affordable too. I meant it won’t burn a big hole on your wallet…kekeke…

The menu attached with photos is simple and easy to understand. Knew about the Char Kuey Teow and Nasi Lemak ala Jepun…but we weren’t really on to that. Preferred to order something more Jepun…

For drinks we ordered Genmai Cha (Rice Tea) for RM2.90/ glass. And its refillable.

Sukiyaki Nabe (RM18.90) arrived first. My friend commented the thinly sliced beef meat were good. While the Japanese soy sauce soup base were so tasty that we just couldn’t stop sipping till the last drop. ^^

Okonomi Yaki (RM13.90), a Japanese pancake made of flour and egg with the ingredients of shredded cabbage, onion, meat and squid. Topped with okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise. I find it not bad actually.

Irodori Kushiyaki Mori (RM18.90). Assorted skewers consist of salmon, chicken fillet and chicken wing. Perfectly grilled with glazing of teriyaki sauce.

Chicken Hamburg Steak 180g (RM17.90). Hamburg is their signature dish. If you can’t take beef…you can at least choose chicken. I want to go back for this! Tasty and nicely cooked hamburg with Japanese soy sauce which was not too watery or salty. Moreover the patty was not too tough or dry…easily to chew. Placed in a stone plate together with an egg, fried potato slices and some corns.

Food(as above) : 8/10

Price : Affordable

Ambiance : Comfortable

Lunch @ Pasta Zanmai, Midvalley Megamall

Last month we had a complete 5 jimui gathering. Myself, Ashley, Wanyi, Nic & Vivi. Nic suggested Pasta Zanmai which is located at 1st floor of Midvalley Megamall. Pasta Zanmai is the sister of Sushi Zanmai. It was my first time dining here, same goes to most of them. Therefore we went ahead with the plan. The name comes with the word ‘pasta’, true enough the menu mostly consist of pastas!

It was 12pm and its already lunch time. I see the restaurant is quite full. But no problem in getting a table for 5 of us.

These chopsticks come in a handy way. Since its a wooden chopstick, I assume it will be thrown after usage. ^^

After reading the menu and place our orders, then we would like to order Green Tea for our drink. *sweat* Didn’t know order green tea also can be so much of hassle. Here’s the conversation….

We : Would like to order a jug of green tea with 5 empty glass pls. Bcos there are 5 of us.

Waitress A : Sorry, we can only give 3 glasses for a jug of green tea. But the green tea is refillable.

We : But there are 5 of us! So, if a jug is for 3 person, how about we order a jug of green tea and another additional 2 cups of green tea?

Waitress A : Sorry, we don’t serve green tea in cup.

We : *started to get benggang already* Fine! Then just 1 jug of green tea.

Then we asked from another waiter who brought us the jug of tea, whether can he bring us another 2 empty cups. He then answered “I can’t do that. But I can bring 2 cups of plain water for you”. Well….at least he gave us a better option! Thank you.

Agedashi Tofu (sorry, forgot the price). Tofu was smooth but the gravy was quite salty!

The beautiful runny egg + teriyaki chicken + rice, stir well…it result was quite good.

The food above comes in a set of 2 items (serving size – average). There are several sets for you to choose. We chose 3 different sets to be shared among us. So sorry that I’ve forgotten the names. And I forgotten to keep the receipt. (Duno busy doing what oso @_@). But I do remember each set are price at RM25. The overall taste was not too bad la…but I minus marks due to the inconsistency spaghetti. Not well cooked. Some were still hard! Their pizza is the only thing I like. Thin and crispy crust. 😉

Time to feast! :-p

Vivi and Nic left earlier. Ashley, Wanyi and I felt thirsty later. So, we thought why not drop by Snowflake for a bowl of dessert and a drink. *As usual…the place was crowded! Need to grab a seat 😦

We tried Ocha’Ryo (RM7.90), new in their menu. The shaved ice (bottom) is made of green tea. It was quite smooth, feels as though I was having green tea ice cream. Topped with red beans, baby pearls and black sesame balls.

I also ordered a cup of Lime Jade Jelly Green Tea (RM5.50) for myself.

*why my face looks so tired here huh??*

Yeah…TGIF and long weekend! A toast to everyone! 😉

Off Topic: Understand that its going to be a long Raya break for most of the Malaysians…wish everyone Happy Holidays and Selamat Hari Raya. These few days while driving to and from work, I noticed there’s many road accidents on highway. Please remember to drive safely on road.

Lunch @ Delicious, Mid Valley Megamall

Often heard about this place. Used to passed by this place. But have not tried their food. When I meet up with both my UNI buddies, Sheima and Susan at Midvalley…Sheima then suggested this place, Delicious..a chain store.

I thought it would be a…good idea!

At Delicious, you may choose to dine indoor or outdoor. Outdoor look more spacious to us, so we decided outdoor. This place seems cozy.

The bright exterior creates beautiful and contrast outcome. I like the way they furnished their restaurant.

Makcit Sheima and her handsome son, Afy reading the ‘no photos attached’ menu.  Sheima and I often call each other ‘Makcit’. Because we both are so ‘auntie’. LOL

Their menu is so simple! Just names and prices.

Aglio Olio Spaghettini + Add Seafood = RM24.80

Something light and simple. Prawns were fresh and crunchy. However squids were …hhmmm…’rubbery’! Not recommended.

Napolicious a Creamy Tomato based Spaghettini with Beef Bacon Chicken StripsRM20.90

Rich in tomato gravy. Serving was quite big too.

Classic Beef Lasagne – RM20.90

Rich flavors, very cheesy and meaty!

Fish & Chips (from Kids Menu) served with Carrot and Cucumber Sticks RM12.90

Crispy Fried Mushroom – RM13.90

I was tempted by the long list desserts printed on the menu. Hardly decide one. If only I could order more. Unfortunately, a wrong choice was made! *sigh.

Berrilicious Chocolate Pavlova – RM13.90  Not recommended.

Appearance can deceive. Looks pretty..but tasted below average.  All I could taste was just the rocky, thick and airy meringue topped with thick cream.  Moreover strawberries are so sour =_=

Both Sheima and Susan are my good friends during UNI days. We took the same course, went to class together, joke together. Moreover Sheima was also my roommate. Both of them are now blessed with 2 kids. Had a great time with them. It was nice to hear from them. Knowing that they are now doing well. Though we hardly meet or talk these days…but we still put an effort to meet. Well its the heart that counts.

Afy is so leng cai…Ya..obviously he knew the camera was onto him =p

Food : 6/10 (good presentation..but some food are just average)
