My Tea Break @CAFFEine; Setiawalk Puchong

My daily caffeine boost has to be at least a cuppa coffee. But usually I’ll just bancuh my cheap 3in1 coffee…hehehe…..

Caffeine is a bitter substance found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate, kola nuts, and certain medicines. But in this case…obviously we are referring to their drinks.

One day, I saw my friend posted photos of this cafe on his Facebook. Nice drink and cake I saw. I decided to give it a try and dragged Alex to bring me to Setiawalk. I noticed there are more and more cafes offering coffees and cakes here at Klang Valley. Anyway, this would be beneficial to us, the consumers…where we will be spoil with choices. Agreed? 😉

A very simple interior. Located at 1st floor right above Share Tea.

Free Wifi and some old-skool board games are also available here.

The drinks menu are neatly written on a chalkboard.

Freshly baked cakes and muffins. The cakes looked so good. I couldn’t decide which one to go for.

Ohhh…homemade ice cream by FatBaby is also available here! Isn’t that great to have some homemade ice cream. In terms of ingredients, much natural I suppose.

Again…I’m required to choose. I like salted caramel….at the same time I also like peanut butter wor. So, I ended up choosing ‘peanut butter’ flavor. hehe….

The ice cream is quite smooth and has nice taste of peanut butter. But not very strong. Size of cup is around 6cm in diameter.

Ohh ya…the friendly barista handed 2 additional flavors for us to sample. (not the whole cup okay) :-p

Chocolate : Very rich chocolate taste. Ermm…a lil bitter after taste.

Apple Crumble : Nice and fruity!

It was a hot afternoon. I really feel like having a cold drink. Therefore I chose Iced Electro Choc – RM11. (made from Irish cream, hazelnut coffee, milk and cocoa powder). Nice layers of drink I had. Wow…I did not expect an iced drink comes with coffee art too!! Thought I could only see the coffee art on hot drinks. *claps* I would say this drink is nice. Very smooth too. Hmm…kinda reminds me of latte.

Quench my thirst with a glass of Iced Electro Choc. To me, the serving size is quite big.

There you go…my choice of cake, Chocolate Baileys Cake – RM19.50.

A rich chocolate mousse cake topped with crunchy and crispy caramelized hazelnut. However I find it kinda pricey for a slice of cake. But this slice of cake is really good lar….

Come…take a closer look. Layers of chocolate mousse and sponge. The mousse part is rich and smooth. While the sponge part is very moist. Makes it a great combo!

Eat – Wedding – Sight Seeing

As mentioned earlier…I was at Ipoh for only a day trip. The main reason was to attend Alex’s cousin wedding. Well…we do not want to waste much time, but to fill the entire day with food and also sight seeing. Fully utilized the day since morning and get caught in the jam while traveling home. LOL!!

We decided to travel early…at around 7.45am..ermmm….actually not really early also lar hor?

With Alex’s driving skill…we reached Ipoh safely at around 10+am. LOL!!

Our plan was to go for dim sum breakfast. We would like to try Foh San’s dim sum at the new premise. Just because Saturday was a public holiday for Malaysians…Ipoh was so crowded over that weekend! I waited for a vacant table for like 15 minutes? Was that consider fast?! And I need to stand in front of the table…like chup-ing a seat liddat. *sigh*

Our dim sum breakfast. Not bad I felt. The selections of dim sum are not bad. Many choices. I like their siew mai. Big, juicy and meaty. We did not order much…because we still need to go for a wedding lunch at 12pm.

Restoran Foh San Sdn Bhd
51 Jalan Leong Sin Nam,
30300 Ipoh Perak.

Business hours: 6.30am to 2pm (Closed every Tuesday)

After the dim sum breakfast, we went to Ching Han Guan Biscuit Shop

because my mom wanted to try their biscuit with meat floss, lotus paste & salted egg yolk filling. Unfortunately it was sold out at 12pm!! *disappointed mode* Huhuhu…sorry mummy… Apparently the boss said they only bake from Monday to Saturday. So on Sunday they’ll sell to people who has pre-ordered in advanced (at least a day). Okay..noted! Therefore…I end up buying the “Sek Kei Ma” and “Hap Tou Sou” (Chinese Walnut Cookies). Their Sek Kei Ma was just average. But the Hap Tou Sou is very nice!

Attended Alex’s cousin wedding at 12pm till 3+pm…

After the wedding lunch, we decided to try our luck to see if this ‘popular’ tau fu fah is still available. This place is a hype among tourists I guess.

The price list.

I queued. Cars can queue too. They’ll come to take your order. How come people in car queue gets their order faster wan?! Becos human queue is longer. *stupid me* I was unlucky lor…..the last 2 bowls of tau fu fah goes to the person who queued in front of me. *sigh*

Didn’t get to try their signature* tau fu fah…so I tried their soya bean + cincau lor…. They call it Black White. But I call it Michael Jackson. Hmmm…sorry to say..the soya bean..hmm..although it has nice soya taste..but I felt its overated lar… I can get a nice soya bean here in Seremban pasar malam also…nonit to queue so long summore. ^_^

It was rather early for dinner. None of us feeling hungry yet. Googled for place of interest. Found Gua Kek Look Tong which is not very far from town.

Opened in the 1970s, Kek Lok Tong is the most recent of the Ipoh cave temples and perhaps the most spectacular of them all. The temple is set in a huge cave in the limestone outcrops behind Gunung Rapat.

Impressive!

So natural and cooling inside. Hmm…I don’t see any fans inside. LOL!

Buddha Statues.

This is at the back of the entrance-a beautiful landscape garden. It look so heavenly. Feel so calm and it looks like a poster.

Goose went for an evening walk ^^

One of the pond is filled with water lilies. So pretty.

One of my favorite shot. I always feel water lilies are very pretty and calm.

This miniature ‘Fuk Luk Sau’ is so cute. Do pay a visit at Gua Kek Look Tong when you are in Ipoh.

Ok lar, time for dinner lor… Ipoh is famous for Bean Sprout Chicken.

I referred to this informative blog about Ipoh (Motormouth From Ipoh – Malaysian Food & Travel) , he mentioned that his favorite place would be Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitia. Without hesitation, we came here for dinner.

Apparently they do not serve rice. So, this is what they have…to be eaten with the steamed chicken. – Kuey Teow Soup. The kuey teow is smooth and slippery.

This serve as appetizer. Fancy some chicken feets? Braised chicken feet. Its tasty and not hard. I think one of the ingredient is star anise.

What’s special about Ipoh’s Bean Sprout. They are fatter and shorter. Hehe….and crunchier too.

A plate of steamed chicken. Quite smooth and not overcooked.

The above meal for 4 eaters with 4 cups of herbal tea cost RM49. Not bad!

Huh…only left 3 steamed chickens? It was just 7pm when I left. Good business huh.

***That’s all for a day trip*** 😉

2 Weddings in 2 Consecutive Weekends.

The past 2 consecutive weekends, I was busy traveling to 2 different states in Malaysia to attend wedding. LOL! I sounded like I’m an important person pulak..hehe…. The long weekend during Wesak Day I traveled to Butterworth together with Alex and also some friends. The bride and groom whom were traveling on the same day…alerted us about the heavy traffic along North South Highway heading Ipoh.

Therefore we were forced to traveled via old road passing through villages. Road were quite winding but managed to capture this beautiful view of paddy field. Not many cars travel via this route…we were wondering are we on the right track. Not seeing much cars…but monkeys…LOL!

We put up 2 nights in a homestay arranged by the groom. On first night…we had dinner here, at Khuntai Restaurant.

On the following day, we had our dim sum breakfast at Restoran Chaw Choon. Very affordable pricing dim sum! All the above and later we add on some additional dim sums and a bowl of noodle with a pot of tea for just RM60+.

Nothing much to do in Butterworth…and we were afraid it would be kinda rush to travel to Penang and return for dinner in the evening. We ended up spending time to watch Fast & Furious 6 at Sunway Carnival Mall. LOL!

CONGRATS Leonard and Wifey ^_^

Cute prop…

Reunion day for all the Sarikeians..That’s what I like about attending weddings. Despite the makan makan…its like a chance to meet or catch up with friends. Some..may have not met for years.

New happening place in Butterworth. Restaurants and Pubs are here.

Late night supper at 1am!! Tom Yam noodles..you pick the ‘liu’ then they’ll cook for you. It looks like Maggi Mee. LOL! But the tom yam soup was quite tasty lar…Apparently this is not the only stall serving this. And its available till so late?!

Last Sunday, I was here at Sun Lee How Fook Restaurant, Ipoh to attend Alex’s cousin’s wedding lunch. (will blog about my Ipoh trip soon)

However I wasn’t quite impress with the food served that noon. I remembered I came here once…coincidentally it was during Nicole’s wedding! The food I had before was quite okay but not this round.

Alex and both of his younger brothers. Do they look alike? I would say YES! Hahaha….

Eeeee….this couple balloon is so cute and lovely!

So, recently are you attending any of your friend’s wedding?

Hairstyle : Braided Bun Tutorial

Ladies….do you have long hair and often ran out of idea on how to style your hair? Especially when you need to attend functions or an important date. You wouldn’t want to look bored by just letting your hair down all the time, although that’s the simplest way.

If I would to have sufficient time , I’ll try to style my hair before I attend a wedding dinner. I came across this website which gave me ideas on hairstyles with some steps, using photos as tutorial. Some of them are kinda tough or complicated, I felt. I want something that is quick and easy to follow.

Last weekend, I attended Alex’s cousin wedding. So, I decided to try this Braided Bun.

Can you understand the steps by looking at the above photo? Its quite easy… The main key is the knowledge of braiding. Which I assume most of you ladies can do it 😉

All you need to have is rubber band and these hair pins to secure your hair. I got these hair pins from Sinma for only RM5.

The backview. So, how does it look? Okay ma? A lil messy cos of my layered hair. ^_^

How much time I spent on this hair? Can’t remember the exact duration…may be around 10 minutes.

Do I look good?

Product Review : Facial Sheet Mask by Naruko

Hooray…today I’m going to do a review on a new series of facial sheet mask by Naruko. Do you like sheet masks?

NARUKO Brand Story - Mozilla Firefox 5312013 45640 PM

For Naruko fans…do you agree with the above?

IMG_6963When do you actually apply a facial sheet mask? I applied my facial sheet mask after exfoliating (facial scrub). Why do I need exfoliating? To remove dead skin cells and also blackheads. This way eventually show a better result.

Cleanse → Exfoliate → Facial Mask.

Pick a mask that meets your necessity. For example if you want to emphasize on Moisturizing, Anti-Aging, Firming, Whitening or Pore Refining.

A. HA Hydro-Lock Moisturizing Mask

Verdict : These masks helped to improve the complexion, making it clearer and brighter looking!  Face masks have deep cleansing and conditioning action on the skin, are great in refreshing tired skin or soothe troubled skin. You can use it daily…but I’m just using for may be twice a week. Hehe….I admit..sometimes I am lazy. LOL! However my preferred choice would be A) HA Hydro-Lock Moisturizing Mask and B) Q10 Age-Defying Brightening Mask. They showed significant result on me.

Play Tourist…..at Melaka

Lets play tourist in Melaka! Just like them….hehe…

Visit tourists spot, take photos like a tourist, eat like a tourist, speak like a tourist…….

After visiting Zoo Melaka, to watch giraffe..we head to Melaka town. It was on weekday, so the crowd was lesser compared to peak seasons ie: long weekends.

Melaka is known as “Bandar Bersejarah” (Historical Town). Therefore Melaka is commonly chosen as the location for ‘rombongan sambil belajar’ during my school days. Is your school the same too?

We parked our car at this open air car park opposite St. Francis Xavier’s Church and walk over to Jonker Street for lunch. Hmm…not far..just about 5 minutes of walking distance.

Boat ride at Melaka river. Not sure what’s the price for a ride.

Noticed some new hotels here.

Wow….Hard Rock Cafe is now at Melaka!

At Jonker Walk on a sunny afternoon.

We wanted to come here for lunch. At Hoe Kee Chicken Rice to let my friends savor the Chicken Rice Ball. Too bad their chicken rice ball has ran out of order. They only have loose rice. Which I thought it wouldn’t be any special if we order loose rice. So, we decided to go to another shop. If I’m not mistaken, there are 3 or 4 shops serving chicken rice ball at Jonker Walk. Perhaps there are more.

We ended up settling our lunch at Famosa Chicken Rice Ball. I wasn’t quite satisfied with my lunch here. The chicken rice ball were not that tasty and firm as Hoe Kee. While that plate of roasted pork (siew yuk) was quite dry. T_T

Fancy stuffs that I’ve spotted along Jonker Walk. They are for sale.

This is one of my favorite Durian Cendol at Lao Qian Ice Cafe located at Jonker Walk.

Ochado is now available at Jonker Walk!

I like its nostalgic furnishing.

The Stadhuys at the heart of the historic quarter of Malaka.

We are on our way to St. Paul’s Church, skipping the museums. hehe…

St Paul’s Chuch is the church ruins located on top of St. Paul’s Hill. It was originally built in 1521, by the Portuguese. It became a fortress in 1567, until 1596. After the Dutch siege it became St Paul’s, before it was known as Nossa Senhora da Annunciada (Our Lady of Annunciation). It has been used as a burial ground for the Dutch.

In 1952, a statue of St. Francis Xavier was erected in front of the ruins of the church in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of his sojourn in Malacca. A day after the statue was consecrated, a large casuarina tree fell on it, breaking off its right arm. Incidentally, the right forearm of Xavier was detached in 1614 as a relic

View from St. Paul’s Church; Melaka town, Menara Taming Sari, the sea…and did you spotted a Star Cruise?

Interior of the church with Old Portuguese tombstones leaned against the wall.

Ahh…do you recall these? I used to buy it as souvenirs for my friends. You can request to write names or any wordings as long as the space is sufficient.

Remains of the old Portuguese fort A Famosa around St Paul’s Hill.

Then we walked to Menara Taming Sari with the fare of RM10 (for Malaysians) The 110 metre viewing tower was designed based on the legendary Taming Sari Keris. It will be the 1st tower in the country to have a fully revolving structure. The air-conditioned viewing cabin will be able to accommodate 66 people at one time.

And my friend bought this group photo for RM35! Huhuhu….

We were all quite exhausted walking the whole day..lazy to walk back to where we parked our car. Moreover we would like to experience the trishaw ride. I’m impressed on how they decorated their trishaw. Looks like wedding car. LOL!! A ride from Menara Taming back to The Stadhuys, the fare was RM15. During peak season, they’ll doubled the price!

Night scene of Melaka River, The Stadhuys, St. Francis Xavier’s Church.

We had our dinner at Portuguese Settlement, Melaka. We went to Restaurant No.88. One of our friend was having sore throat. Therefore we did not order any spicy dish. Else the Portuguese style cooking is pretty good. Above we had Butter Prawns (fresh and juicy prawns coated with creamy sauce), Fried Calamari(crunchy calamari with crispy batter), Salted Egg Crabs (not my liking.)

Mission accomplished! Alex’s friends has stepped into Melaka city although we do not have much time to cover more places. 😉

Product Review : Shiseido Aquair Deep Moist Shampoo & Conditioner

Hair dyes, perming, straightening with much chemical ingredients often damage our hair. In resultant; dry and dull looking hair.

Let me share my hair type:-

Dyed, long, thick, coarse,  frizzy and dry. I heard people said frequently drying your hair with a hair dryer eventually damage your hair. I’ve also avoided that. Yet my hair is still frizzy. I often need to apply some hair serum before leaving home, to keep my hair look neater. I’ve tried several shampoo brands which can be easily purchase from drugstore. But yet to meet any near to perfect.

Recently I was introduced to Shiseido Aquair Deep Moist Shampoo & Conditioner. I hope this new haircare from Shiseido able to restore my hair. Although its not really that serious yet, but I do not wish to spend big bucks doing treatments in a hair saloon.

AquaAirShampoo is milky and slightly runny. While the conditioner is rich and creamy.

Shampoo wet hair and softly massage through hair and scalp. Leave in for 5 minutes if possible, to help hair absorb healing ingredients. Rinse with warm water. Follow with Conditioner. Apply conditioner on semi toweled dry hair, emphasize on hair ends. Then leave for at least 3 minutes before final rinse.

The smell of both shampoo and conditioner are not strong. You don’t feel the smell when you hair is damp. But after drying it..you’ll smell this mild, clean and pleasant scent.

AquaAir1Before : Frizzy, dry hair ends and untamed hair.

AquaAir2After several washes….it does show a difference here. Shinier, moisture, manageable and not as frizzy as before even without applying any hair serum. Hair tangling has reduced by 50%. Do I look like I’m having a healthier hair now?

2013-05-22 08.21.01

Verdict : Its slightly more expensive than my previous shampoos and conditioners but still consider an affordable pricing. Most important is that I’ve found a better haircare, witnessing positive improvements on my hair. A healthier hair a healthier me! ^_^

The not so attractive Zoo Melaka

When was the last time you visited our local zoo? Hmmm….butterfly/bird park not counted hoh. 😀 Too long till you can’t recall? I too can’t remember when was the last time I visited our local zoo. HAHA! The main reason is because our weather often too hot. Then the other reason what people usually commented is ‘the animals watches me instead of me watches the animals’.

Alex’s friends from Sarikei came over KL for a short trip. We planned to take a drive to Melaka for a day trip. Alex’s friend, Tony said he has not seen a real giraffe before. We laughed. But on second thought…our future kids may not know or seen a real chicken too instead of giraffe!

So, we decided to drop by Zoo Melaka before heading to Melaka town.

Today, I going to take you guys to Zoo Melaka. I’ll let the photos do the talking. Because most of the animals, I can’t remember their names. hehe….

Also..by the end of this post, you will understand why do I call it a not so attractive zoo!

booth displaying animals plush toy for sale at the entrance.

There is an entrance fee to this zoo. For locals (show your IC) RM10, but for foreigners – RM20. WOW! doubled the price. Kesian foreigners…

As you enter, you’ll notice the parrots.

The Reptiles House.

Conclusion : Our weather is too hot and often humid, made me don’t feel like visiting zoo. Moreover seeing this zoo’s condition… I feel like taking the tram ride back to the start point and say bye bye. The cages looked so unkept. Alot of mosquitoes too. That’s all for today’s tour.
