Happy Dongzhi Festival

This year’s Dongzhi festival falls on 21 December. It so happens the date is also same as the proclaimed “End Of The World”! I suppose people are more concern about this end of the world thingy than dongzhi celebration lar….

I didn’t bother much, because I can’t do anything if it really happens. Well…spent my day as usual. What I hated most are those people spreading rumors which they themselves aren’t sure. About earthquake, hurricane and flooding in KL (aren’t KL is already flooding alot of time even with our so SMART tunnel?!). Do they actually know those statement can actually create chaos?! *Duhhh….. Anyway…if end of the world would to happen, we humans are the main culprit for destroying this earth!

I woke up as usual today, with bright sunshine. Glad that everything is still the same. Back to work with all the FARK up works! *damn*

Anyway…Dongzhi Festival is about making and eating tong yuen. Tong yuen symbolized reunion. My late grandma used to say Dongzhi is the most important festival celebrated by the Chinese. Ya…greater than Chinese New Year, she said. Therefore I prepared these lovely tong yuen last night. They are easy to prepare. I am already an expert in mixing and kneading the dough, achieving the right consistency. I mixed them every year leh! :-p (But don’t ask me the exact measurement) While my mom will be the one who prepares the ginger+sugar soup. I like the process of making tong yuen, where everyone will join in the fun.

305329_10151248227652740_1147413915_nMom says tong yuen has to be round round. Odd shape? Do it again! Haha..

I like my pastel colors tong yuen. Don’t you think they are lovely?

Note: I uses edible coloring okay… :-p

My colorful tong yuen lollipops! (my fingers also kena color) Looks like a colorful  ‘ping tong wu lou’ !

Wishing Everyone Happy Dongzhi Festival!!

Hamburg Steak on Sis’s Birthday

On Sis’s birthday, I suggested to mom that we make a simple dinner at home.

I guess nothing beats a comfort home cooked food!

I then told mom, why not we make hamburg from scratch. Mom agreed to it.

I think I’m in love with hamburg after trying one from Waku Waku. hehe….

I was looking for the recipe, then I recalled Baby Sumo did blog about it.

Here’s the recipe from Baby Sumo.

(I uses pork instead of beef)

Hamburg Steak (Hambāgu)

Recipe adapted from No Recipes
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 20-25 minutes
Makes 6-8 (depending on how big you make your patties)

Ingredients

1 large egg
1 small onion, finely diced
1 large clove garlic, minced
450g minced pork
170g silken tofu
1 cup mixture of fresh breadcrumb and crushed crackers (2 slices bread and 5 crackers)
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp parsley, minced
1 tsp light soy sauce
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp cooking oil
For the sauce
1/2 cup chicken stock (I uses Maggi chicken cube stock)
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp tonkatsu sauce (I substituted with Worchestershire sauce)
1 tbso demi-glace (couldn’t find this in KL so omitted)
1. In a frying pan over medium high heat, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and sauté half the onions until golden brown and caramelized. Allow to cool to room temperature.
2. Combine the pork, tofu, sautéd onions, raw onions, garlic, fresh breadcrumbs and crackers, egg, ketchup, oyster sauce, parsley, soy sauce and black pepper in a large bowl. Put some disposable gloves on and knead the mixture together until it is uniform in color and texture.

3. Add a little bit more oil to the frying pan that you fried the onions in and place over medium heat. Because the patties are on the soft side, you’ll want to form them and add them directly to the pan. The patties should be around 1″ thick.

4. Fry them until they’ve formed a dark brown crust on one side, about 1 1/2 minutes then use a spatula to carefully flip them over and brown the other side. Unless you have a very large pan, you won’t be able to do them all at once, so fry 4 at a time and transfer them to a plate when they’re browned on both sides. Don’t worry if they’re not cooked all the way through as they will finish cooking in the sauce.

5. After you’ve fried all the patties, drain off any excess oil (but don’t wash the pan as the brown stuff is what will give your sauce flavor). Add the chicken stock and boil until it’s reduced by about half in volume. Add the ketchup, water, Worchestershire sauce, and demi-glace (if using) and stir to combine.

6. Place the patties back into the pan, cover, and cook for 7 minutes, flipping them over once in the middle. Cook uncovered for another 3 minutes to thicken the sauce a little

The shaped up patties that are ready for frying.

With the help from mom, we made this hamburg steak. Eaten as burger!

Nom Nom…its a good recipe. The patties are tasty and yummy! My niece especially enjoyed eating this ‘burger’ 😉

Mummy’s hardwork on these Pai Tee. It was her 1st attempt. No wonder those selling in restaurants are expensive. To fry the mould/hat is quite tedious.

On Sis’s birthday 2 weeks ago…we had this Strawberry Tart from RT Pastry House.

If you are a fan of Mousse cake and a fan of white chocolate, I’m sure you will love this. Smooth white chocolate mouse with a thin layer of sponge cake and biscuit crumbs coating the whole cake. The cake is very fresh! But the strawberries are quite sour. Hahaha….8in (1 kg) for RM63.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIS! ♥

The so-called ‘food marathon’ to celebrate my birthday!

Our initial plan was to eat, window shop and watch a movie.

I was suppose to wake up at 9.30am. And as usual I will wake up earlier then Alex…because I very ‘MO’. We also planned to go out at around 10.30am.

Unfortunately….I missed the alarm, I overslept and suddenly awake, realized it was already 11.30am!! OMG!! We’ve missed our breakfast session!!

I got up quickly, groom myself (apply ICI paint, etc..). By the time we arrived Pavilion, KL already noon. Haihh…Therefore Alex and I decided not to watch movie, instead we had a so-called food marathon. But only began from lunch. 😀

My Big 3……

Yesterday was my birthday. I’ve just step into the age 30s! Wow…I couldn’t believe it lor…The Big 3! HB said…3 jiong yeh* mou dak chau. (if you could understand canto).

No grand parties…No grand celebration..But celebrated it with family and also HB, that’s more than enough.

These cakes are from ‘Just Heavenly’. I got to know about their cakes through Cherry@Monkey and Baby Sumo.  They mentioned that their cakes are good. I told HB much earlier that I wanted these cakes for my birthday. I did not choose whole cake because I wanted to try more flavors. Too bad the ‘red velvet’ was all sold out.

(From left to right) :- Death by Choc, Black Forest, Choc & Cheese.

All of them tasted so goooood….Fine, light and moist. Moreover its not too sweet. Ya..you do notice or curious why are all chocolate? Reason is that, I am a chocolate lover. I was seriously drown with ‘Death by Choc’!

When I was in mid 20s….so young! & oso slim….

Now…in early 30s! Older and fatter T_T

sequel of me blowing candle! ^_^

HB and I….

Happy Birthday to me. If you ask me did I had a good one. Yes..I did!

HB got me my favorite hello kitty character birthday card with an ugly but lovely sketch and also a smart phone. He knew I wanted a phone for quite sometime. He surprised me with it. I cried seeing the content. Oppss..*paiseh. Too happy and unexpected ma… =p

Dinner @ Rakuzen Japanese Restaurant, Empire Shopping Gallery

Last month, during our Anniversary, Alex and I decided to have some Japanese food as a simple dinner celebration. We chose Rakuzen because my 1st experience at Rakuzen, GTower was good. Unfortunately the other day, Ashley was telling me her recent visits to Rakuzen, GTower, the food were lousy. Food arrived cold and service was poor. *Sigh* Why can’t something good maintain its quality and whatsoever?

There are total of 7 Rakuzen outlets over Klang Valley.

This time we went to the Rakuzen located at Empire Shopping Gallery. We were there at around 8+pm. To my surprise the place is already quite crowded. I never expect it could be so many people even on weekdays.  We did not make any reservation, therefore no nice feng sui seats T_T

How can Japanese food go without wasabi??

Ebi Tempura – RM26

Crispy battered tempura prawn. Prawns were fresh and crunchy.

Uhhh…my favorite dish of all!! Plate of fresh sashimi at RM60

Couldn’t find any fault on this plate of Stamina Maki – RM38. Sushi roll with thick slices of tasty unagi.

Wanna share some sushi? 😀

Collagen Nabe (S) – RM30

Hot pot using miso soup base. Fresh ingredients are vegetables, enoki mushroom, tofu, udon and oysters. The oysters were good and soup was tasty as well.

Alex is quite a rice person. So we ordered a bowl of Garlic Rice – RM9. This garlic rice is quite normal.

Alex said Shishamo at Rakuzen is good. So we ordered a plate of Shishamo which comes in 3pcs for RM10.

I then conclude my meal with a cuppa Yuzu Sherbet – RM6. The icy cold dessert is refreshing to have after meal. Moreover yuzu is citrus..it helps to digest my food so that I can eat another round ^_^

Happy Dumpling Festival

I was feeling excited to come back to my parent’s home today to celebrate Dumpling Festival (Duan Wu Jie). Though I do come home every weekend….though one can still buy dumplings throughout the year, but to eat together with family it feels differently. That’s what I like about Chinese festival. Each festival is celebrated with different types of food! Although rice dumplings have became so commercialize and people has turned it to be something so luxury, yet I still preferred the ordinary ‘bak chang’ with small piece of pork, beans, mushroom, salted duck egg and chestnut nicely tied with a string.

20120623-140628.jpg
I like to eat my rice dumpling with sambal belacan, made by my mom. It’s really nice. How about you? Do you eat your rice dumpling with any sauce or just as it is?

20120623-140934.jpg
Yah, mummy did not make any but she bought these rice dumplings at RM3.20 per piece. Quite tasty too. So, how many rice dumplings have you eaten today?
Happy Dumpling Festival to everyone !! 😉

Happy Birthday Baby Alysha

Two weeks ago, Sin Wei invited me to her daughter’s 1 year old birthday party at Royale Bintang Seremban. Time flies…so fast Baby Alysha is now 1 year old. I can still remember the day she was born and then fullmoon, where I took some portraits of her. Makes me wonder..children these days grows really fast. Hence watching their growing stages is the most memorable ones to every parents.

When she was 1 month old…….

The birthday celebration was held at Asiatique Restaurant.

Mickey & Minnie Theme for the birthday gal. Hhmm…mummy really puts alot of effort for tonight.

The cupcake tower.

A Minnie Mouse arch

It was a buffet dinner. So, I started with a plate of fresh sashimi. Salmon & tuna was very laku. When I took an empty plate to fill…all salmon & tuna finished. Leaving only octopus. No choice but to ask the staff to replenish.

I topped the sushi with some golden fish roe.

Udon, Tempura & Mussels. There were also some BBQ food. However the buffet dinner was just average.

Lovely Mummy Minnie & Adorable Minnie Alysha

Lets sing a birthday song for the birthday gal.

Alysha is so chubby and cute..feel like cubit-ing her.

Both Sin Wei & Wei Chi are my school friends. Ok lar…we adults also want to act cute ma… ^_^

A photo of me & HB. Ahemmm….how come HB looks like put on alot of weight in this photo?? Shhhh..I think is my bad …lately I fed him alot of food. haha…But I think Mother in law will be happy to see that his son is well fed rite? ahahah..

Once again…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BABY ALYSHA!!

We celebrated Vernice’s Birthday @The Manhattan Fish Market, Seremban

It was Vernice, my beloved niece’s birthday.

Vernice turns 3 on 25th of March.

Her mom, my sis decided to celebrate Vernice’s birthday at The Manhattan Fish Market, Seremban. The Manhattan Fish Market is currently offering great savings set meals called “Greatest Hits From the Ocean” starts from 1st March to 29th April 2012.

We chose ‘Chart Highlight’.

With every purchase of  “Greatest Hits From the Ocean” , you are entitle to purchase these starters (shown above) with a discount of 50%.

We decided to get 1 Fried Country Mushroom. Crispy battered button mushrooms served with Cajun Honey Mustard.

We also add on Cream of Mushroom Soup.

‘Chart Highlight’ comprised of 1 Caeser Salad

1 Grilled Catch of the Day – Dory (Light)

1 Small Grill (Flaming prawns served with grilled squids, fish fillet, Chips, garlic herb rice with broccoli and carrots on the side )

1 Giant Fried Platter (Chips, fried fish nuggets, shrimps, calamari, fried country mushrooms, embedded with garlic herb rice)

See how my niece pose (ok la…I admit..she learnt from me..the poser yiyi)

Some said their standard of quality has deteriorate. However the food I had that day were all good. The seafood were quite fresh, especially the prawns. I specifically love the flavorful Garlic Herb Rice very much.

Sis ordered a beautiful set of cupcakes for Vernice. One of her favorite cartoon character, Angry Birds! The thoughtful baker was creative to make them sort of more girlish after she knew its an order for a GIRL.

Details are so neat. The chocolate flavor cupcakes were moist and the fondant was not too sweet either. Check out her FB page (Thecupcakelicious – Couture Cakes & Gifts). Her name is Leni…..a very pretty baker.

Ello piggy~~~~

Yeah…HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Clapssssss….

Vernice : Hmm…let me rip off this angry bird. Chomp…Chomp…Chomp…

Happy Birthday Vernice! ♥♥♥ you!!!

Better be a good gal ya…& don’t kek sei your mummy =p

Dinner @ Sumo Japanese Restaurant, USJ 9

On Valentine day……

Alex and I decided to dine out.

I was worried about the jam on road, therefore I tried to get a place which is not too far from our home. Then, I asked Wanyi for suggestion since she’s more familiar to places in Subang. I told her I wanted Japanese food. So, she suggested  Sumo Japanese Restaurant located at USJ 9, opposite Taipan Subang. She claimed that the food is nice and price is affordable too. Great! That would be around 15 minutes drive from my home.

The restaurant, owned by husband and wife team Paul Foong and Joanne Ong.

Though the restaurant is not very spacious, but we able to have our meal comfortably too. There’s a section where you can have more privacy. Probably for functions.

The working chef and his assistant. It was really a busy night for them. Customers were coming in and out of the restaurant. And I observed quite a number of them are the regular customers. Probably because the owner is friendly or the food is good??

The prices shown on the menu is quite reasonable too.

We were served Miso Soup each. (Included in the set we ordered)

Shishamo – RM9.90

**The boat is about to sail** Don’t you think these Sashimi looks pretty? Good presentation too.

Sashimi Mix Deluxe – RM46

The raw fish were fresh and I have no complain on this.

Chicken Teriyaki Sizzling – RM22.90

This dish is served with a bowl of rice. The portion was quite big. Somehow I felt it tasted a lil too sweet for me.

Special Bento (set) – RM31

Comes with sushi, tempura and chawanmushi. However both chawanmushi & tempura were just average only.

A closer look on the sushi. The sushi were not bad. While the rice are firm and won’t fall easily.

Green Tea Ice Cream with Red Bean – RM7.50

Last but not least…to end the meal with a satisfying dessert. Though I’m not really a great fan of green tea ice cream, but I do think that their green tea ice cream is good! Very creamy, smooth and has a good taste of green tea. It goes well with the red bean paste which is not too sweet.

My not so romantic HB surprised me with a bouquet of red roses.

Happy Valentine Day & Love you, Darling ^^

Happy Valentine Day 2012

On eve of Valentine day, I planned and prepared a simple 3 course meal just for the 2 of us (Alex & I)— our first pre-Valentine in our new home. I do not have long hours of preparations (time is not permitted) and I’m not yet a good chef either…. *stick out tongue*

I do understand that if you love someone, everyday is a Valentine. But ……on 14 Feb is still a special day too ma….. 😉

I return home from work and quickly get myself commit to the kitchen. ^^

Table for 2 at 8.30pm?? Not really a surprise one lah, because Alex roughly knew what I was about to prepare.

To make it a lil mysterious, I’ve gotten a name for my 3-course meal…..Hehehe..

♥♥Don’t Worry….These Are Edible♥♥

(3-course meal)

Starter

The Hidden Treasure

Cream of Mushroom + Seafood Soup

(Its a canned soup. Therefore you may expect the microscopic seafood..just like a hidden treasure)

Main Course

None Other Than The Only One

Spaghetti Bolognese

(This main course may look or sound ordinary and simple….And So am I. Am just a simple and ordinary gal ^^)

Dessert

The Miss Whatever

Fruits Flavored Yogurt with Snickers Chocolate Bar

House Wine (Red Wine)

Taa…Daahh….this was the presentation on my 3-course meal la….
