Mummy cooked Waxed Meat Rice (Lap Mei Fun)

In conjunction of Chinese New Year; my mom decided to cook some CNY dishes. This is one of the dish which she tried from a recipe book. Its was her first attempt. The dish works well.

*2 bowls please* 😉

  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 4 shallots (sliced)
  • 1 stalk spring onion (chopped)
  • 4 cups water

Ingredients B :

  • 1 pair Chinese liver sausage

Seasonings :

  • 1 tbsp light soya sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soya sauce

  • 1/2 tsp sugar

Method :

1) Scald Chinese sausage and Chinese liver sausage in boiling water, flameout. Put in Chinese duck drumstick and soak for 10 minutes. Remove and set aside.

CNY Family Dinner @ Han Pi Yuan, Royale Bintang Resort & Spa

As I return home on 2nd day of Chinese New Year, there were friends gathering, house visiting and not forgetting a family dinner which is the most important part.

To avoid the festive crowds in restaurants, we decided to dine at The Royale Bintang Resort & Spa. Mom gave the suggestion on Han Pi Yuan, a Chinese Restaurant after she read some good reviews from the newspaper. Apparently, Han Pi Yuan serves Halal Chinese food.

To my surprise; there were only 2 tables of guests having their meals there. Where are all the people in Seremban?? Is it because the service is bad? Too expensive? Or food is bad? Let me try it….

well lighted and looking pleasant

Well; we went for ‘Chinese New Year Menu’ package. Which consists of 9 dishes (including dessert) served for 10 pax. Moreover the price seems to be affordable too. Just RM438++ (imposed of 10% service charge & 6% government tax).

Prosperity Jellyfish & Pear Yee Sang

This dish will normally serves at the beginning of the meal. Yee Sang or Lo Hei or better known as Prosperity Toss symbolized abundance, prosperity and vigor.

“All diners at the table then stand up and on cue, proceed to toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks while saying various “auspicious wishes” out loud, or simply “撈起, 撈起”. It is believed that the height of the toss reflects the height of the diner’s growth in fortunes, thus diners are expected to toss enthusiastically.” (extract from wikipedia)

Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Crabmeat

The usual shark’s fin soup. Good that this isn’t too starchy.

Roasted Chicken Shatin with Prawn Cracker

This dish is quite unique. The chick were deep fried. A credit to it because it ain’t too oily. No doubt its small, but its tasty.

Wok Fried Prawn with Spicy Sauce

The prawns size are quite big. Moreover the prawns are very fresh.

Steamed Sea Bass Fish with Quality Soya Sauce

Braised Two Varieties of Mushroom with Dried Oyster & Vegetable

Am so sorry. I was too busy eating till I forgotten to take a photo of the “Fragrant Fried Rice in Lotus Leaf”. It must be too nice till I’ve forgotten ^^

Deep Fried Nin Kou

Double Boiled Longan with White Fungus

Food : 4/5 (satisfying meal with big portion of food)

Price : 4/5 (worth eating)

Ambiance : 4/5

Service : 2.5/5 (waiters are kinda inexperience & inefficient)

1st Day of CNY

This year I spent my first Chinese New Year at my In Law’s house in Sarikei.

Had some mixed feeling. Had fun but on the other hand missed my family and home ^^.

According to Fook Chow’s culture (Alex’s dialect), on first day of Chinese New Year we are required to eat a bowl of Hong Zao Mian Xian 红槽鸡面线 (red glutinous wine ginger chicken vermicelli). Its a symbol of longevity. Mother in law is good at making a bowl of delicious one! She woke up very early in the morning (no idea what time) to prepare and arrange all the festive items (oranges, biscuits, peanuts and last but not least, my favorite kek lapis) for the visitors. Ok lar…I did made an effort to wake up early to help ler…But then all already kau tim by her. 😉

Hong Zao Mian Xian 红槽鸡面线

It was a wet 1st Day of CNY. Rain started at 9am. However it never fails us from going for house visiting (pai nian).

A tray filled with colorful and yummy kek lapis (taken from friend’s house).

There are actually 2 version of kek lapis(layer cake). 1 is by baking it and the other 1 is by steaming it.

A group photo was taken at Siu Ching’s house. It reminds me of school’s annual book. 😉

Dessert on Valentines Day

A simple yet refreshing dessert, simply the best to serve today on Valentines Day.

All you need; just a box of frozen ice cream and some strawberries. The strawberries that I got here are from Korea (as printed on the label). Very very sweet. Unlike the one from Cameron Highland. ^^

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!! 🙂

A mini gathering @Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant

On last Saturday dated 22 January was exactly 1 year since we were in Taiwan. It was on 20 January 2010, since our trip to Taiwan together. If  I’m not mistaken, on 22 January 2010, we were at LeoFoo Village right Ashley, Wanyi??

Wanting to remember these sweet memories we had, therefore we made a small anniversary dinner. Wanyi suggested to have Taiwan food. Apparently, Fong Lye is the Taiwan restaurant which came across our mind.

We were there at 6+pm. As usual, its always crowded especially on weekends.

We were given a number for a table of 6. Waited for about 10 minutes till our number was called.

While waiting for Andrew to come, everyone is so hardworking to study the menu.

menu with wide selection of food (with photos to explain)

1 whole page of drinks

seriously studying the menu

Dinner @ The Ship

It was on Christmas day. In additional to that, it was Alex’s birthday as well.

Since we were at Bukit Bintang area, we decided to have our dinner at “The Ship” – claiming it as The Best Steak in Town! (but we did not make any orders on steak^^)

I thought I could drop by at 4pm to make a reservation. Unfortunately the waiter told me, there wouldn’t be any reservations considered on that day. It would be on walk-in basis. Alright. Fine. We will come again by 6.30pm then.

As we got into the restaurant, the guests were about to fill up the entire restaurant. And to my surprise; the tables were placed so close to each other. Barely a meter away. I recalled my neighbors were about a 30cm ruler apart from me. You are not allowed to speak much louder, or else you will be sharing your story to everyone next to you. “Welcome to the story telling section”.

On that day, they do offered Christmas set dinner, which I felt not really worth eating. Therefore, we opted for the ala-carte.

complimentary bun & butter

A bowl of salad upon ordering sizzling chicken

Thai Seafood Tom Yam – RM10.90

I would claimed this was the best dish for the entire meal. The rest of our orders sucks.

Sizzling Chicken Fillet – RM22.90

Tender chicken perfectly grilled and topped with gravy, served on a sizzling hot plate with french fries and a bowl of salad

-apparently the sizzling word has removed from my order. Because it came without any sizzle at all-

Seafood Platter – RM34.90

Combination of grilled king prawns, fish fillet, grilled squid, fried soft crab and fried scallop served with french fries and mini salad

-No doubt the squid is quite big. Unfortunately its not well cooked lor, the inner layer still abit raw!!!-

Apple Juice – RM6.50

Orange Juice – RM6.50

Price : Affordable

Food : Would advise please do not dine during festive season. The food quality drops alot.

Service : Moderate

On His Birthday cum Christmas

Its Christmas! Its Alex birthday! Yeap. Both falls on the same day!

Planned the agenda earlier. Alex got me to help him book a room at Piccolo Hotel 2 weeks ahead. Its located at Bukit Bintang in between Lot 10 and Fahrenheit 88. I would say this hotel is good! In sense of location, design and price. Just walk down the street, and you will be able to find ample of food and shopping venue. You can easily return to you hotel room to get some rest. Everything was good. Unfortunately the breakfast was bad. =_=

Our Deluxe Room. Clean, Stylish & Bright. I like it!

The wash basin is placed outside the bathroom

The separated shower area and toilet

The celebration on that day wasn’t much I would say. Mainly were on food & shopping. Pavilion, Fahrenheit 88, Lot 10, Sg. Wang were the places we shopped! ^^

This 2 fella can be spotted at Bukit Bintang. You’ll gotto pay RM2 to take a photo with them.

I bought 3 slices of cakes from ‘Bread Talk’. Requested a candle from them. Personally brought a box of matches from home ^^
