Lunch @ Wong Kok Char Chan Teng

Since Wanyi has returned to Malaysia, therefore on Saturday we decided to go for our usual stock ups for The M.A.W.

Later ; Mel, Ashley & Wanyi….the 3 of us suggested to go Pavilion for our lunch. We then went to Wong Kok Char Chan Teng which is located at 6th Floor. Well; it was my suggestion on the restaurant. Merely just because it has a good ambiance, I felt so. Was it a wise choice huh, ladies??

I wonder….. @_@

Wong Kok Char Chan Teng (Hong Kong Restaurant) serving Hong Kong cuisines. No longer a stranger to us. This chained restaurant has been operating in Malaysia for several years.

The wide range menu of fusion food looks pretty attractive with an affordable price too.

a mini menu is placed on each table conveniently for you to tick your orders

Lemon Coke – RM4.50 (nothing to shout about)

Apple Juice – RM4.50 (nothing to shout about)

Almond Tea – RM3.90  (nothing to shout about)

Ginger Lime Tea – RM5.50

You must be surprised how come 3 gals having 4 drinks right?? I almost forgotten that Ashley’s friend, Deniece came by join us for a drink. Nice meeting you Deniece 😉

Spicy Spaghetti with Seafood – RM12.50

SO SO only. Felt that the pepper has overpowered the spaghetti and too much gravy too.

XO Sauce Fried Rice – RM10.20

The rice taste good. However Ashley commented that the prawns were alil hard. Over cooked perhaps??

Hot & Spicy Soup Hand Made Noodle (with BBQ pork, char siew) – RM14.80

This is good. I personally love the flavor of the spicy soup. And the best part would be the char siew. The meat is tender and tasty.

Ashley; the belated birthday gal. We surely won’t miss your birthday one!! Hiakkss….

Portraits of Wei Chi @ Starbucks

Wei Chi is a friend of mine since primary school. We used to stay back after school hours for our co-curricular activities; i.e: Taekwondo, Red Cresent and also tuition class. We still keep in touch with each other till today.(yes, I’m still waiting for her wedding day to come!!)

She called me up few days ago and asked to meet up on last Saturday. Since we were both in Seremban, the nearest place to meet would be at Jusco Seremban. We decided to hang around at Starbucks. Ordered a drink each & a slice of cake, we shared. Took out my camera and did some portraits photoshoot of Wei Chi. I told her; “don’t look at the camera…just pose naturally & talk as usual.”

Lunch @ Kita No Zen, Hokkaido Ichiba; The Garden Mall

This lunch was planned as a meet up before Wanyi left for work to Singapore. I wouldn’t say its a farewell, after all she will still return and we can still meet. Midvalley and The Gardens  will normally be our meeting point as its more like a center point between us. Should be more convenient I guess. Trying to figure out what should we eat or try this time. Each time we would try different food. I wonder when only we can finish trying all the food from both Midvalley & The Gardens ^^

Initially Ashley suggested Yogi Tree. Couldn’t remember how the plan changed. Lately I really craved for Japanese food ever since I watched this drama; The Rippling Blossom showing on Astro on Demand. Therefore; I would say this restaurant has fulfilled my wish!!

Nic and Mel arrived earlier then came Ashley and Wanyi. Lucky it was still early (at 12pm), therefore we don’t need to queue long.

Facing directly in front of the center escalator

The interior

We were directed to our seat. And was given 4 booklets of menu which comprises of set lunch, ala-carte, ice cream/dessert & the last one I have forgotten. Oppss

While studying the menu, Ashley said the menu is kinda similar to Rakuzen. The answer to your question; (I got it from a blogger) —-> Kita No Zen (the restaurant) and Hokkaido Ichiba (the adjoining ice cream/ dessert lounge) were opened by the people behind Rakuzen and Sushi/Pasta Zanmai.

Hot towels & Green Tea are served to guests for free of charge.

All of us decided to go for set lunch.

Nic ordered Yakiniku Zen(Grilled Beef Set)- RM28

Based on Nic, Ashley & Wanyi‘s interpretation; the meat is tender and juicy. While the gravy is tasty too.

Ash ordered Unagi Kabayaki Zen (Roasted Eel Set) – RM30

The size of unagi will not disappoint you. Apart from that, the unagi taste good too.

Mel ordered Nabeyaki Udon to Salmon Don Zen (Claypot Udon & Salmon Rice Set) – RM32

This set is good! Especially the slices of salmon. Its very fresh.

There was a moral lesson to learn here. Please read up the whole description of food before ordering. I somehow missed the word ‘rice’. Therefore it surprises me with 1 bowl of noodle & 1 bowl of rice. How can I finish all??  So, I scooped some noodle for Wanyi.

There you go, Wanyi’s Set. (No name)

All of us very bersungguh-sungguh to clear everything.

We requested for desserts to serve after meal.

Wanyi ordered Macha Ice no Hokkaido Milk Parfait (RM8.80)

Green Tea Ice Cream served in Hokkaido Milk with Glutinous Rice Ball & Green Tea Jelly, topped with Hokkaido Red Bean.

Macha Waffle (RM9.80)

Waffle with Green Tea Ice Cream topped with Green Tea Sauce & Hokkaido Red Bean

Sesame Indulgence (RM8.80)

The above desserts; only the green tea ice cream is good. Not applicable to the waffles. Because both types of waffles are so-so only.

Just 4 of us

We were at Hokkaido!!!

Love this cheeky pose of us!! (Wanyi, Ashley, Mel, Nic)

**Definitely will re-visit. Hinting it on Hubby now ^^

1st Day of CNY

This year I spent my first Chinese New Year at my In Law’s house in Sarikei.

Had some mixed feeling. Had fun but on the other hand missed my family and home ^^.

According to Fook Chow’s culture (Alex’s dialect), on first day of Chinese New Year we are required to eat a bowl of Hong Zao Mian Xian 红槽鸡面线 (red glutinous wine ginger chicken vermicelli). Its a symbol of longevity. Mother in law is good at making a bowl of delicious one! She woke up very early in the morning (no idea what time) to prepare and arrange all the festive items (oranges, biscuits, peanuts and last but not least, my favorite kek lapis) for the visitors. Ok lar…I did made an effort to wake up early to help ler…But then all already kau tim by her. 😉

Hong Zao Mian Xian 红槽鸡面线

It was a wet 1st Day of CNY. Rain started at 9am. However it never fails us from going for house visiting (pai nian).

A tray filled with colorful and yummy kek lapis (taken from friend’s house).

There are actually 2 version of kek lapis(layer cake). 1 is by baking it and the other 1 is by steaming it.

A group photo was taken at Siu Ching’s house. It reminds me of school’s annual book. 😉

A mini gathering @Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant

Wanting to remember these sweet memories we had, therefore we made a small anniversary dinner. Wanyi suggested to have Taiwan food. Apparently, Fong Lye is the Taiwan restaurant which came across our mind.

We were there at 6+pm. As usual, its always crowded especially on weekends.

We were given a number for a table of 6. Waited for about 10 minutes till our number was called.

While waiting for Andrew to come, everyone is so hardworking to study the menu.

Jingle Bells…Jingle Bells….

Christmas is just around the corner. We have planned an early Christmas celebration cum Christmas gifts exchange.

Sin Wei suggested a theme. We shall all dress in either red or white color.

“I will come in RED lar”; I told Sin Wei.

The present ones were Sin Wei, Joanne, Tracy, Kristy, Siew Yen & myself.

Apparently; there’s a newly opened(few months ago) Vietnamese Restaurant in Oakland. They served Vietnamese cuisine and steamboat. Therefore Tracy suggested to try their steamboat.

Dinner @The Manhattan Fish Market

The last gathering we had was on September. 1st and 2nd gathering; we held it at Sin Wei’s house. Therefore this time we changed the venue. Sin Wei & I suggested the same location. JUSCO SEREMBAN!! Hahah..since that’s the place which is near to everyone of us.

Hence, we decided to go for The Manhattan Fish Market…..

I couldn’t remember when was the last time I tried the food. I think it was 1 year ago??

This round we had an additional guest. “Pei Chee”! The last time I met her was Form 5. It was 10 years ago ler!!! Now, she is a mother of 2 kids. Yet she still look so good. I think even better than school days. We chatted mainly about both leng leng mummy “Pei Ling & Pei Chee” sharing their experiences to “Sin Wei”, the soon to be mom! Good thing must share share…So I suppose its an educational chat.  ^^

Crab Salad – New menu in conjunction of Christmas. This salad is nice. It has crab meat tossed in coleslaw with raisins top with crisp purple cabbage, corn & coriander. (RM13.90)

Shrimp My Olio – This dish look abit different from the menu. However it has strong cheese & chili flakes. The prawns are fresh too. Too bad its alil oily & salty I felt.  – RM17.90

Wrap & Roll – generous amount of fish flakes with lettuce & tomatoes wrapped with tortilla. Served with fries. A good choice if you wanted something light. – RM14.90

Grilled Salmon – I like this very much too. The thick sliced of salmon is nicely grilled. Taste good too….Served with the fat fries and some broccoli – RM29.90

Brownie with Ice Cream – RM9.90

Mud Pie – RM7.90

It looks ugly to me…Really resemble the muddy look. However the taste was good!

A Day Trip to MELAKA (Part 2)

[cont. from previous post…]

4) MENARA TAMING SARI

We walked for about 15 minutes from Jonkers Street. The price for each ticket is RM10 (provided you show them your MY Kad/ Malaysian citizen). Or else it will be priced at RM20.

Menara Taming Sari which located at Jalan Merdeka, Banda Hilir, Melaka was opened on 18 April 2008. The 110 metre viewing tower was designed based on the legendary Taming Sari Keris.

It will be the 1st tower in the country to have a fully revolving structure. The air-conditioned viewing cabin will be able to accommodate 66 people at one time.

5) Nadeje Patisserie Cafe, Mille Crepe

I’ve seen several good reviews on this cafe. As its famous for its crepe. The crepe is a cake form with many layers of pancake with fresh cream on each layer. It was my first time trying it. The one that we went is located at Dataran Pahlawan. The cafe was full. We waited for about 10 minutes to be seated. Worth waiting….

Hardly decide

Mango Yogurt (RM9) – Rich yogurt taste. Its very fluffy.

Rum & Raisin (RM8.50) – Not much of rum taste. It tasted more on raisin side.

Coffee (RM8.50) – With nice coffee taste.

Chocolate Strawberry (RM9.50)

All of the above are very nice. The texture is soft & fluffy. Yet the sweetness ain’t killing your tooth. A very good place for a tea break.

All the drinks above are from RM3.80 to RM5

6) A FAMOSA

A Famosa meant “The Famous” in Portuguese. It is among the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia. The Porta de Santiago, a small gate house, is the only remaining part of the fortress still standing. Took some snapshots just in front of the wall.

7) Seafood @ Portuguese Settlement, Melaka

Our last pit stop of the day. Headed over Portuguese Settlement for our dinner. Without knowing where the location is; (never been there before) and all we got is the address. Good to have GPS these days. Lucky to have Kong’s voice GPS* to guide us there. (with an ang mo lady voice whom ask you to turn left, turn right, turn left right….LOL!). Don’t worry, it won’t lead you over the walls. Hahahaha….

Reached there at about 7pm. There is an open air area allocated for parking. Just pay RM1 per entry. Bear in mind; once you got down from your car, don’t be surprise they will be people kinda promoting their stall to you. Since there are 10 shops in total; therefore the business is quite competing.

Its actually located just by the sea. It was so windy & the sea waves are so strong.

View of the surrounding.

As the Sun sets

We chose this restaurant; as it was recommended by a blogger

Watermelon Juice(L) – RM3.50

Kailan with Salted Fish – RM8

Very nice smell of the salted fish. The vege doesn’t taste overcooked either.

Sambal Sotong – RM15

The sotong/squid is fresh. However the sambal/sauce is abit on salty side.

Baked Fish in Portuguese Style – RM32

The fish is the best! Especially the sauce they used to bake the fish. It combines really well.

Crabs with Salted Egg

Dry Spicy Crab

The crabs are priced at RM40/kg. You may pick your choice of cooking method. We chose it to be cooked with salted egg and dry spicy. Somehow; the taste are SO SO only. But the crabs are very fresh!

Lala(Clams) with Ginger & Cili Padi – RM15

We waited quite long for this last dish to be served. To our surprise; this dish is really good! Especially its gravy. A recommended one!

All of us were so loaded with great food. Took a slow drive back home. And there goes a fruitful day.  😉

A Day Trip to MELAKA (Part 1)

An impromptu plan we made.

Chose Melaka as the destination as it is near. Iternary was drafted last minute too. Googled for places to eat. I am very sure that we ended up more eating than sight-seeing. Eat at almost every stops. *blushed*

On Sunday; Ashley, Andrew, Wanyi & Yew Kong traveled from KL and reached my house at about 10.30am. We then traveled to Melaka; safely arrived and got our car parked at Jonkers Street at about 11.30am.

All of us were so hungry. Decided chicken rice ball as our so-called breakfast.

1) KEDAI KOPI CHUNG WAH

queued to be seated

The 3 angels; Ashley, Wanyi, Melissa

spicy chili sauce

Steamed Chicken with Soy Sauce

Rice Balls. Sized of a ping pong.

Rice are very soft. Chicken meat is rather abit hard. Somehow I preferred the one at  ‘Hoe Kee’.

KEDAI KOPI CHUNG WAH @ 18, Jalan Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka.

After the chicken rice meal; walked around at Jonkers Street. Luckily it wasn’t very really sunny that day. Or else I will be perspiring non-stop. 😉

2) JONKER 88

A shop serving various noodles & cendols. The shop is often seen with long queues.

the interior

We ordered 2 types of Laksa.

Nyonya Assam Laksa – Its different from the Penang Assam Laksa. This is much more sour and spicy. Without the shrimp paste.

Baba Laksa – Creamy Curry soup. Nice one!

3) LAO QIAN ICE CAFE

Under the sunny walk; a bowl of cendol is best to stop the thirst.

Amoy Yuan Yang Waffle; filled with pandan flavor paste.

Yummy Durian Cendol

For more detail; check out the post which I’ve blog last time.

Durian Cendol @ Lao Qian Ice Cafe

After the dessert; we walked all the way towards Menara Taming Sari (next post).

Second Round @ Tim Pan Gor Gor (甜品哥哥)

We guys just can’t stop talking craps! Done with our dinner (previous post). It was about 10pm. Just can’t get enough of it. Probably because everyone missing each other too much! As said; *THE MOON IS STILL YOUNG* gagagagaga….

We decided for to go for a second round. Supper perhaps. Since my car is big enough; so I ferried everyone at once(of cause the driver is Alex lah…).  Initially we thought of going to Snowflakes Dessert located at SS15; to our surprise it was so crowded. Therefore we switched to Asia Cafe. Dropped the idea very soon. As it was too warm! Mcdonald’s perhaps? Went across the road and spotted Tim Pan Gor Gor (甜品哥哥). Ahhh…finally we decided a place!

The colorful & attractive menu. Difficult to make a decision.

Sweet Potato Almond Sweet Soup – Tasty soup with rich almond taste

Water Chestnut Sweet Soup with Sago – It look more like pumpkin soup. Contains minced water chestnut.

Ginger Soup with Sesame & Peanut Rice Balls – Its ‘tong yuan’ with 2 black sesame & peanuts filling. The soup has strong ginger taste. Nice one!!

Mango Hor Fun – Its their signature item. I would say this is rather unique. The ‘Hor Fun’ made of coconut (coconut jelly strips) with big portion of Mango. Taste GOOD!

Kiwi Fruit Ice – Lotsa kiwi fruit with blended ice

Mango Ice – Rich blended mango fruit and mango chunks with blended ice

Melon Juice – Ermm….this drink don’t really taste nice
