My 3D/2N at Ambong Ambong Langkawi

Yes! I was here at Langkawi for the second time. Once a year? 😉

I chose Langkawi as our short getaway destination because I kinda love this island. The beer here is dirt cheap. The people here are nice too. My previous visit to Langkawi was with a group of friends. And we put up at a budget hotel in Kuah town. Since this round was just Alex & myself, I thought we should go for something better and memorable. Why not stay somewhere around Pantai Cenang? Its more happening over there compared to town.

Ambong Ambong opened since December 2011. Its still consider new. And how did I find out about this place since they are so many hotels or resorts in Langkawi? Through Groupon’s deal.

Why am I attracted to this place?

Secluded Tropical Getaway at Boutique Hotel Ambong Ambong Langkawi Rainforest Retreat”.

Its something different from those hotels that I’ve stayed. Hence I would love to experience the touch of nature, the rainforest.

Once we arrived at Langkawi airport, we rented a car(remember to negotiate for the best price)..easily for us to move about in the island. Driving in Langkawi is quite easy. With the guide of maps and the proper road signs. Upon arriving Langkawi early..so we thought we should go for our breakfast first. Breakfast at KFC at Cenang Mall, a new mall in Langkawi.

What is the meaning of Ambong Ambong?

Ambong Ambong is the Malaysian name for Scaevola taccada, a plant that is native to Langkawi.

There are currently two 2-bedroom cottages and six individual studios available for accommodation. Very limited!

We were guided to our room by their attentive staff. Nizam, a friendly guy welcomed us to their holiday villa.

Our Studio room, rebak 2 is located mid-hill and at 2nd floor.

A welcome drink by Ambong Ambong to quench our thirst on that sunny afternoon. Phew…I need to catch my breath after climbing walking up the stairs. Our room check in is done in our respective room. Nizam handed the room key to us, together with a map of Langkawi (which is quite thoughtful)..and some brief information.

I was amazed with their action on decorating our bed!! I told HB not to destroy the lovely swan as he was taking a short afternoon nap. LOL!

Our 46m.sq. Studio room is spacious, clean and comfortable. Lets take a tour to my room.

A small lounge area. I like the tall ceiling windows which allows natural sunlight without switching on the room lights.

I have a small kitchen in my room! Made me feels like I’m at home. This small kitchen equipped with refrigerator, microwave, electric kettle, bread toaster, ceramic plates and bowls, utensils, cups and glasses. Oh ya…and also soap detergent for washing.

The room’s open air balcony with a ceiling fan. A relaxing environment with touch of nature. Birds chirping in the morning and sound of cicadas (an insect) at night. Feels like I’m camping in a forest!

There is  suppose to be a sea view here. But is blocked by the trees. *sigh

Of course we have TV in our room!

The spacious built-in wardrobe.

The bathroom with separated shower area.

I noticed there was no mirror in the room. All I have is this mirror in the bathroom. I have to fix my makeup in front of this mirror under the dim lights. Understand that probably its not suitable to install a mirror in the room…but appreciate if they could maybe install one behind the wardrobe’s door? Because the wardrobe’s light is brighter.

Although we are at a forest like villa…but we are connected to the world. With FREE WIFI! Yes…Wifi is provided for free here. Unlike some hotels with expensive room rates..but wifi is only available at the lobby. HUH! What for?!

On that sunny afternoon, wouldn’t it be great to take a dip in the pool.

Hb testing on the pool’s water. The water was quite cold! Ohh ya…it may look deceiving. I felt the swimming pool is rather small. But I think its sufficient to cater for the low occupancy in Ambong Ambong.

Chillaxing by the pool.

While having a bottle of Hoegaarden for only RM4.20!

Buggy ride is available daily from 9am-9pm. Just give a call to Nizam to check if he’s available to pick you. Sometimes we decided to climb walk back to our room. The steps are quite steep though. Really a good workout!! I told Hb, if I would to stay here for a long period, I’ll be slim and fit! LOL!!

What?! We are gonna have breakfast in our room? Ohh…that’s cool! I love the idea of having breakfast in room too. No rushing and we can slowly take our time. Food will be replenish daily around noon.

Such a healthy breakfast I’m having. Appreciate if they would to add in eggs. Then I can make soft boiled egg with toast bread. Voila!

We had our daily breakfast at the balcony. It was so relaxing. Moreover you can enjoy lotsa free oxygen here. From the trees. HAHAHA!! If you are lucky, you can spot the dusk-leaf monkey. I wasn’t lucky T_T

But I spotted a pair of Oriental Pied Hornbill in front of my room! However it flew off too before I could take a photo. *sigh*

Hb busy with his mobile phone. *tsk tsk*

Ishan Spa is located downhill of Ambong Ambong. Feel free to drop by for a spa experience.

Anna, the person in charge on replying my mails, answered my queries and sort out my room reservation.

I wish I could spend another 1 or 2 nights here. We had a unique experience and  enjoyed our stay at Ambong Ambong.

Tips: Its not difficult to locate Ambong Ambong. Ambong Ambong located on the southern part of Langkawi Island, a 25 minute drive from Langkawi International Airport and half an hour from Kuah, the main town. If you are coming here by taxi, you may need to say out “Unkaizan Japanese Restaurant” in case the taxi driver is not familiar about this place. Unkaizan Japanese Restaurant is just slightly below Ambong Ambong. Pantai Tengah is within walking distance, probably around 10-15 minutes walk. If possible, book your room at the higher floor for a better view. Kindly join their Facebook Page to know about their latest updates.

Hotel Review : Hotel Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

Redeemed my winning stay at Hotel Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur through Bangsar Babe Giveaway. I was looking forward to the hotel stay. I like staying in Hotel…I meant who doesn’t like rite?

Located in the middle of KL city, Hotel Grand Millennium earned 5 star rating.

While waiting for my room to be ready…by 3pm..so, I decided to walk across the road and visited Fahrenheit 88 shopping mall. Coincidentally these cute gals were posing in conjunction to the opening of Parkamaya (Asian Fashion Retail Concept Store).

I couldn’t help but to join in the fun. *kawaii des* ^_^

Check into the Deluxe Room and our room was onlooking Fahrenheit 88.

The Deluxe Room (430ft2) is quite spacious for us to move about.

32-inch LCD flat screen TV but not many interesting TV channels pun…

Unfortunately there’s no free wifi in the room *too bad* 😦

Alex checking out the price list of the displayed snacks. Small packet of cashew nut also need RM5! @_@

2 pairs of Bedroom slipper and bathrobe are provided. The bathrobe cannot take home ya… 😀

Safety box is provided in the room. Just in case if you need to lock your important stuffs.

I often get excited to check out hotels bathroom.

Separate shower and long bath.

Complimentary basic bathroom amenities.

The bed is comfy with fluffy pillows! ^_^

We woke up early the following day to enjoy their breakfast at The Mill.

Wide range of food served here. The breakfast was quite good. We were there during school holiday period…the hall became crowded at about 9am.

Wanna have a morning dip? The huge swimming pool is located at the upper floor. Besides that, there’s also a gym room.

Lets chillax…..

This hotel has a good location. Ideal for shopaholics! 😉 Can go for early morning shopping. An early bird gets the worm rite? Fahrenheit 88 is directly opposite the hotel.

While Pavilion KL is just beside the hotel.

Lets go for early morning shop! *provided the shops are already open lar… 🙂

What I like most about this hotel is the great location. Walking distance to Pavilion KL, Starhill, Lot10, Fahrenheit 88, Sungai Wang, Low Yat Plaza(for IT gadgets) & Jalan Alor (for food). However I feel that the rooms looks abit old. May be its time to do some refurbishment. The buffet breakfast spread was good. Log into their website to check out the best rates.

Hotel Review – Bangkok City Hotel

Ashley and I were having a hard time deciding on the hotel in Bangkok. We planned to choose a budget hotel since we would not be spending much time in the hotel other than sleep and shower. We asked for recommendations from friends. Each person giving different recommendation. The more options we have…the more confused we got. Though its just a budget hotel, there are plenty of choices in Bangkok. My main problem is I couldn’t recognize those road names and I find it difficult to remember.

Few weeks before our departing date, Vivian visited Bangkok. She commented about this new hotel (less than 2 years old) is not bad. In terms of room condition, room rates, and location. Moreover its inclusive of breakfast. Some ding dong of here and there, finally we decided to go for Bangkok City Hotel.

Then Ashley proceed with the online reservation. Standard Room for 2 (inclusive of breakfast) for just 1190 baht.

Front view of the Hotel.

How to get here from Suvarnabhumi Airport?

The Airport Link from Suvarnabhumi Airport (6:00am-12:00pm) : take the City Line (Blue), cost 15 Baht, from the airport, take off at the last station, Phayatai. Then hire a cab to the Bangkok City Hotel, Petchaburi between Soi 10-12, approximately 1.5 kms = 35-70 Baht

Nearby attractions :

3 km from the Grand Palace, 3 km from the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, and 2 km from the Golden Mount, 1.0 km from the largest IT shopping mall, the Pantip Plaza, and the Siam Center.

Alternatively CLICK HERE

Corridor along the rooms. Please get a room at a higher floor. Else you might find it alil noisy as the hotel is located along a busy road. Our room was at 9th floor…So, it was alright.

The first thing I usually do when I enter a hotel room, is to check out the bathroom. Haha…I like nice nice bathroom ma… ^^

Bathtub

The sleeping place.

Room Facilities:

Air conditioning, Television, Satellite television, In-house movie (got English and Chinese Channel too) , Free Wifi, Bathtub with Hot & Cold water, Voltage 220v using Japanese or US outlet, Safety Box in room, Hair Dryer and toiletries, Kettle without coffee or tea nor cups.

Just before the door, its a cupboard for you to hang your clothes.

Well, talking about breakfast…it was just average. Everyday also serve the same food. Day 1, food on my plate was like Mt. Everest, Day 2 became Mt. Kinabalu…Day 3 decreasing..till the last day..just like the bukit behind my house. *flat* Anyway…for the price we paid..we can’t complain much about the food.

BTS Ratchathewi Station is just within 10 minutes walk. If you are lazy to walk, you can easily stop a cab in front of the hotel. Else you also can get some help from the bellboy to hire a cab. Their bellboy is quite helpful. Even help us check the taxi whether we left anything behind after we got down from the taxi.

Other than that, there’s a 7-11 2 doors away from the hotel.

Food is not a problem here too…especially at night. There are many restaurant along Petchburi Road serving local Thai food.

The hotel location. Travel time from airport to Bangkok City Hotel is about 30-40 minutes drive on road.

(Note: The hotel do provide taxi service to the airport with the fare of 450 baht.)

I am quite satisfied with this hotel. Will I return in future? YES!

1 Nite Stay At Strawberry Park Resort, Cameron Highlands

Started our journey from Seremban and exit through Simpang Pulai toll then drove approximately another 1 hour only to reach the resort which is located at a 7-acre hill between Tanah Rata and Brinchang, Cameron Highlands. The entire journey was quite long. Moreover due to the heavy rain which slow us down.

Utilizing the coupon I bought earlier, I decided to bring my family there for a short holiday.

Bought 2 coupons at a good price of RM230 each for 2D1N Stay in a Studio Suite + Breakfast at Jim Thompson Terrace. Recently the resort has undergone refurbishment, with the modern concept rooms.  Now it looks so much fresher.

A small waterfall as you entered the resort.

At the Lobby – Minus the late lunch we had…only able to reach the resort at around 5pm to do our check ins. Quite late huh…

Our rooms are located at this block. I like the environment here…the place is rather quite compared to those located along the busy and noisy street. Moreover getting in to Brinchang town is just within 10 minutes drive.

The impression of Studio Suite. Studio Suite measures 8.50 meters x 5.25 meters with  floor areas of  44.6 square meters or 480 square feet with a balcony. I like the spacious and cosy room. Unfortunately when I asked for double bed(1 big bed), the reception told me; “Our Studio Suite are all 2 single beds”….Alrite..fine then…not really convincing. Don’t want to argue more, well I just go with it….

LCD TV with in house movies.

Private balcony with chairs, nice place for Alex and I to have a cuppa while enjoying the cool breeze air.

Complimentary Mineral Water & Coffee and Tea Making Facilities.

The very spacious bathroom. Though the bathroom is huge..but the shower area is rather narrow (behind the wash basin/mirror wall).

complimentary toiletries

Strawberry is widely plant here in Cameron Highlands. And its cheaper too. So, why not have a full cup of strawberries before getting into bed. *Bliss….

Lunch @ Tenjin Japanese Cuisine, Grand Millennium KL

Each day I received daily feeds from Everyday, Groupon and much more, sent to our mailbox offering discounts and great deals. I am so spoiled with choices. Especially on food. Nevertheless, to ensure I’m picking on the right choice, I must think wisely before I click on the ‘BUY’ tab. I wouldn’t say every voucher I purchased, guarantees me a good meal too…

This round, together with my girlfriends, Ashley & Wanyi, we decided to buy this deal offered by Groupon. A 4-course Japanese Bento Set Lunch + Free-flow of Green Tea at Tenjin Japanese Cuisine, Grand Millennium, Kuala Lumpur for RM29. Japanese food in a 5-star hotel? Sounds good rite? Therefore we made plans and redeemed our coupon last Saturday.

Ashley, redeeming her coupon for 2nd time for this round, gave a solid thumb up to the Japanese food.

There were 5 choices of bento for us to choose.

  • Chirashi Sushi Zen (RM56 value)
    Assorted Seafood on Sushi Rice
  • Gindara Teriyaki Zen (RM58 value)
Grilled Cod Fish with Teriyaki Sauce
  • Sushi & Tempura Zen (RM52 value)
    Assorted Sushi and Tempura Set
  • Sashimi & Tori Teriyaki Zen (RM48 value)
Sashimi & Grilled Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce
  • Makunouchi Bento (RM48 value)
    Sashimi, Yakimono, Tempura

Tenjin Japanese Cuisine recently opened in Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur on Jun 3, 2011.

A medium size restaurant serving authentic Japanese cuisine.

An open kitchen where we able to witness the skillful chefs at work.

This young chef has his 100% concentration on the radish. Hmm…he must be preparing our food.

Started off with Tuna Salad

Gindara Teriyaki Zen
Grilled Cod Fish with Teriyaki Sauce

Check out this beautiful piece of grilled cod fish. This piece of cod fish is generally thick and its perfectly grilled. Tasty with some light and sweet teriyaki sauce.

Sashimi & Tori Teriyaki Zen
Sashimi & Grilled Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce

A closer look of the thick slices Sashimi and Grilled Chicken Teriyaki Sauce. I must say that the sashimi is very fresh, I couldn’t complain more. While for the grilled chicken I felt its abit bland to me.

Makunouchi Bento
Sashimi, Yakimono, Tempura

The nicely grilled fish has crisp skin while meat is tender and juicy. While for tempura, what else can you critic when its nicely battered and crispy.

Green Tea Ice Cream as dessert was refreshing. Hmm…this could be the best green tea ice cream I ever had. Its creamy while the taste of green tea wasn’t too strong. I like it this way.

Well, I guessed we’ve made a right choice! Though it was a discounted deal, I would say the service was good. Refilling your cup of green tea without a constant reminder and a phone call reminder to the guest 2 days before the reservation date.

Buffet @ The Mill, Grand Millennium KL

With an irresistible deal offered by Everyday (a website that constantly offers great deals) for only RM39.90 we were able to enjoy an international buffet in a 5 Star Hotel. What a steal!! All thanks to Christine whom enlightened us about this deal!! Initially we wanted to use this as a reason to have a small gathering among the MB members. However within 2 days… with an overwhelming response…its SOLD OUT! They managed to sell about a thousand over coupons. Such a good deal, who doesn’t want wor…Me myself managed to grab few for my family.

It end up just myself, Ashley and Christine went for the buffet. A reservation was made few days before we were there. (advisable to do so to avoid disappointment). The Mill, Grand Millennium KL is strategically located next to Pavilion Shopping Centre and directly opposite Fahrenheit 88. The Mill served International Fusion cuisines with a comfy ambiance. I was quite impressed with the varieties of food they served.

Smoked Delicacies

Parmesan Cheese Wheel – To create an extra flavor to your salad.

Assorted Cheese

Christine claimed that the buns are very nice.

Mini buns with chicken floss & slices of cucumber

The Japanese Cuisine

The Japanese Cuisine : The freshly made sushi

The Japanese Cuisine :  The absolutely fresh sashimi. Salmon is my favorite!!

The Chinese Cuisine : Assorted condiments for porridge

The Indian Cuisine:  Naan & Curry

Specially made Cheese Naan with Lamb Curry which were truly awesome.

a short getaway……..2D/1N@Avillion Admiral Cove

In conjunction to our anniversary and with a minimal budget; we decided to choose Avillion Admiral Cove as our destination of a short getaway! Avillion Admiral Cove is located at Port Dickson, which is just approximate 30 minutes drive from my home (I can save travel expenses too…).

*If you would like to head to PD town, you will need to drive for about 15 minutes.

My planned iternary of the day. Looks kiddie..but cute right?? ^^

The crowded lobby. Duno why so many people chose to go on the same day =_=

View from lobby

The grand stairway

The room check-in was done quick. May be because I’ve already made my payment when I booked the room through PYO Travel website.

I booked a Superior Room for RM220 (inclusive of breakfast for 2). It could be that I did not inform them much earlier that I wanted a big bed. Therefore I was given the room with 2 single beds. In resultant of that; Alex pushed both beds together.

The Bathroom – Standing Shower Area.

I wasn’t too sure how come the toilet area stinks alil. There could be a hidden area which was uncleaned *yuckiieeee*

This area looks like an office to me ^^

A small sofa for you to watch TV

Well….I switched it to ‘timer’ with ‘continuous shot’ for the photos above…

(wahh…now I realized that our shirt color matches the sofa lerr….)

Left side view from our room’s balcony.

The marina view

Kids Pool

Adult Pool

Seeing the pool, plus with the hot weather, I felt like jumping into the pool immediately!

Only reveals the back…..

Hand in hand we walk together…Till when? I hope is forever!

From the hotel main entrance, walk about 5 minutes to the private beach.

hehehe….stole a snapshot of the sand castle did by a little gal

We had fun with our shadows! =p

Over here, you may rent a bicycle. RM15 per hour (if I’m not mistaken)

Mel at Art Space

They do serves good breakfast….

Review :  The Superior Rooms are located at ‘View Wing’ (which is the one room that I shared photos here). The furniture seems to be alil old. If to be given a chance to stay again; I think I will choose Deluxe Room located at ‘Vista Wing’ which is much newer. Facility wise; if the pool table would to have more than 1; that would be better. heheh….

Hi Tea @ SELERA Coffee House, Klana Resort Seremban

In Seremban, there isn’t much choice or places to enjoy a decent hi-tea buffet. Normally we would either go to Klana Resort Seremban or Royale Bintang Seremban. Marcus’s birthday falls on 6th June, therefore we decided to celebrate his birthday a day earlier. In order to avoid any disappointment, we made our reservation with SELERA Coffee House.  We arrived there at about 12.30pm.

Buffet Dinner @ Awana Porto Malai Langkawi

After spending some time at Pantai Cenang in the evening, we then headed to Awana Porto Malai Langkawi for sight seeing. This hotel certainly not strict to strangers getting into their premises. Unlike “The Datai Langkawi”, where we got questioned by the security guard before we could enter the resort. I wouldn’t blame them for the tight security. I suppose, its a luxury resort.

As I know, Awana Porto Malai Langkawi has many Yachts parked around its sea. That would make it a nice sea scenery to me.  Ooppss….I wouldn’t say sea, it should be Lagoon. Anyway, a couple of nice shots would be prefect for me. A quiet and cosy resort too. Apart from enjoying the nice view, we decided to have our dinner there at Boardwalk Cafe.

Too bad..ain’t any sunset shots here.. Perhaps, I need should a night here and wake up much earlier to view the sun rise.

The night view. The tall white tower is the light house.

CNY Family Dinner @ Han Pi Yuan, Royale Bintang Resort & Spa

As I return home on 2nd day of Chinese New Year, there were friends gathering, house visiting and not forgetting a family dinner which is the most important part.

To avoid the festive crowds in restaurants, we decided to dine at The Royale Bintang Resort & Spa. Mom gave the suggestion on Han Pi Yuan, a Chinese Restaurant after she read some good reviews from the newspaper. Apparently, Han Pi Yuan serves Halal Chinese food.

To my surprise; there were only 2 tables of guests having their meals there. Where are all the people in Seremban?? Is it because the service is bad? Too expensive? Or food is bad? Let me try it….

well lighted and looking pleasant

Well; we went for ‘Chinese New Year Menu’ package. Which consists of 9 dishes (including dessert) served for 10 pax. Moreover the price seems to be affordable too. Just RM438++ (imposed of 10% service charge & 6% government tax).

Prosperity Jellyfish & Pear Yee Sang

This dish will normally serves at the beginning of the meal. Yee Sang or Lo Hei or better known as Prosperity Toss symbolized abundance, prosperity and vigor.

“All diners at the table then stand up and on cue, proceed to toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks while saying various “auspicious wishes” out loud, or simply “撈起, 撈起”. It is believed that the height of the toss reflects the height of the diner’s growth in fortunes, thus diners are expected to toss enthusiastically.” (extract from wikipedia)

Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Crabmeat

The usual shark’s fin soup. Good that this isn’t too starchy.

Roasted Chicken Shatin with Prawn Cracker

This dish is quite unique. The chick were deep fried. A credit to it because it ain’t too oily. No doubt its small, but its tasty.

Wok Fried Prawn with Spicy Sauce

The prawns size are quite big. Moreover the prawns are very fresh.

Steamed Sea Bass Fish with Quality Soya Sauce

Braised Two Varieties of Mushroom with Dried Oyster & Vegetable

Am so sorry. I was too busy eating till I forgotten to take a photo of the “Fragrant Fried Rice in Lotus Leaf”. It must be too nice till I’ve forgotten ^^

Deep Fried Nin Kou

Double Boiled Longan with White Fungus

Food : 4/5 (satisfying meal with big portion of food)

Price : 4/5 (worth eating)

Ambiance : 4/5

Service : 2.5/5 (waiters are kinda inexperience & inefficient)
