Happy Dongzhi Festival

This year’s Dongzhi festival falls on 21 December. It so happens the date is also same as the proclaimed “End Of The World”! I suppose people are more concern about this end of the world thingy than dongzhi celebration lar….

I didn’t bother much, because I can’t do anything if it really happens. Well…spent my day as usual. What I hated most are those people spreading rumors which they themselves aren’t sure. About earthquake, hurricane and flooding in KL (aren’t KL is already flooding alot of time even with our so SMART tunnel?!). Do they actually know those statement can actually create chaos?! *Duhhh….. Anyway…if end of the world would to happen, we humans are the main culprit for destroying this earth!

I woke up as usual today, with bright sunshine. Glad that everything is still the same. Back to work with all the FARK up works! *damn*

Anyway…Dongzhi Festival is about making and eating tong yuen. Tong yuen symbolized reunion. My late grandma used to say Dongzhi is the most important festival celebrated by the Chinese. Ya…greater than Chinese New Year, she said. Therefore I prepared these lovely tong yuen last night. They are easy to prepare. I am already an expert in mixing and kneading the dough, achieving the right consistency. I mixed them every year leh! :-p (But don’t ask me the exact measurement) While my mom will be the one who prepares the ginger+sugar soup. I like the process of making tong yuen, where everyone will join in the fun.

305329_10151248227652740_1147413915_nMom says tong yuen has to be round round. Odd shape? Do it again! Haha..

I like my pastel colors tong yuen. Don’t you think they are lovely?

Note: I uses edible coloring okay… :-p

My colorful tong yuen lollipops! (my fingers also kena color) Looks like a colorful  ‘ping tong wu lou’ !

Wishing Everyone Happy Dongzhi Festival!!

Dinner @ Sector 7, Setiawalk Puchong

Sorry peeps, on the silent blog for the past 2 weeks. Was kinda busy.hehe…..

2 weekends ago, I was here at Setiawalk Puchong. Recently I’ve heard alot of eateries opened at Setiawalk Puchong. Often passed by the Puchong road, but only managed to have a glance at the outdoor facade. Didn’t know that actually this place does look nice and happening at night until when I came to Sector 7 for a drink and dinner as well. There are few pubs over here. Considering Sector 7 is one of them?

20121209_201515

An overview of Sector 7 at Setiawalk. Located by the man made lake.

At Sector 7, they have al fresco dining. I preferred to be seated here, enjoying my drink and meal by the lake. It was a rainy evening. The weather was quite breezy. Feels so good. I like the environment paired with music and sound of water (from the water fountain).

20121209_185438Good news for alcoholics! Come before 8pm to enjoy the cheaper beer. For Carlsberg’s beer fans, currently they are doing a promotion RM5/pint for orders before 8pm! Dirt cheap rite?

20121209_190306Well, I preferred Hoegaarden. RM15/pint.

All mine?

20121209_190416Spaghetti Carbonara – RM25

Spaghetti Carbonara with bacon and mushroom. The cream consistency was alright. Just that I find it a little bit salty. Could be due to the cheese powder.

20121209_191729

Marinated Pork Chop – RM28

Thick slab of pork! Well marinated too. 100% lean meat! Can’t finish all by myself. Too meaty already ^^

20121209_191825Bacon Lollipop – RM25 (recommended)

Highlight of the night! I like this ‘lollipop’ alot. This can be a good snack too.

Lollipop reminds me of the song by 2NE1 ft. Big Bang! Wahahaha…. :-p

20121209_193553Crispy on the outside and heavenly on the inside. Rolled bacon with cheese and tiny strip of chili! Ishh…..really sinful! Oh my gawd….

Dinner @ Sukiya, USJ Taipan

Yesterday, I saw VKeong of Malaysia Food & Travel posted a photo with a caption “Sukiya has landed in Malaysia.. this fast food concept restaurant serves pretty good Gyudon”. It grabbed my attention when I read the location is at USJ, Taipan. Coincidentally, Alex and I planned to have dinner at USJ but have not decided what to eat. I guess the photo appears at the right time. Therefore we were there for our dinner last night.

Sukiya is Japan’s Number 1 Restaurant Chain Stores. And now its available in Malaysia! Furthermore Sukiya is a Fast Food concept restaurant. I can’t deny that I am a newbie in Japanese fast food! Hehe…..

Sukiya, the 1st branch opened in USJ. Located next to True Fitness is easily sighted because of the bright lighting and facing the main road.

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/PicsArt_1354239905690.jpg

I would say its a very spacious and cosy fast food restaurant.

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_204925.jpg

Japanese plastic food samples were displayed here as you enter the premises.

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_205256.jpg

The 1 page menu is simple and easy to read.

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_205311.jpg

Fast food means everything is self service lar, right?

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_205533.jpg

Want extra flavors? Add sauce lar… on desk; light soya sauce, pickled ginger, ketchup, blended green chili, mayonnaise, Kewpie’s roasted sesame Japanese dressing.

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_205829.jpg

Alex ordered Gyudon (Medium) – RM9.90. Gyūdon, literally beef bowl, is a Japanese dish consisting of a bowl of rice topped with beef and onion simmered in a mildly sweet sauce flavored with dashi (fish and seaweed stock), soy sauce and mirin (sweet rice wine).

The beef slices are so thin and it tasted not bad.

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_210053.jpg

While I chose Teriyaki Chicken Rice (Medium) – RM7.90

The teriyaki chicken meat portion is quite big. At least the ratio between rice is quite proportion also lar.. I added some blended green chili and I like it! Ima chili person ma…*hot and spicy*! 😀

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_205912.jpg

Add RM3 for pickled vegetables and a bowl of miso soup.

https://i0.wp.com/i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/thammelissa/SUKIYA%20USJ%20Taipan/20121129_205958.jpg

Or add RM3 for pickled vegetables and a cup of drink. I chose Iced Lemon Tea. I also added some Kewpie’s roasted sesame Japanese dressing to my pickled vege….which I think it matches well too! 😉

Verdict : Something new to me. Not bad and worth trying. Gonna return to try maybe the curry rice? ^^

I am One Lucky & Happy Winner.

I’ve been following Bangsar Babe’s blog every now and then.

On July 2012, she organized an annual blog giveaway in conjunction to her blog’s 5th anniversary. The giveaway consist of F&B vouchers and also Hotel stay. To stand a chance on winning bigger prizes, you’ll have to take a photo of your favorite food along with Bangsar Babe website (header photo), add in a short description about the food photo then emailed it to Bangsar Babe and she’ll upload it on her facebook page. All you need to do for the whole 5 months giveaway period..get as much people to like your photo (not forgetting to LIKE Bangsar Babe FB page first) in order to have a higher chances to win the grand prize.

Despite begging asking favor from people to like your photo, there’s no slogan needed..which I thought its pretty simple (because I am not a slogan person). So, I decided to try my luck and submitted my entry on July 2012. However my numbers of LIKE on my photo grew so slow. I couldn’t even catch up with the highest score. I have 600 over friends on my FB..but there were only 100 over likes on my photo (including some unknown people) How sad huh. I thought there ain’t hope of winning anything already. Although there are 2nd and 3rd prize…no chance also lar…I meant myself. :-p

This was my photo submission. A good Japanese meal I had at Senjyu.

On October 2012, I received an email from Bangsar Babe saying I was chosen as best monthly photo entry. I walked away with a 8inch mille crepe cake from Food Foundry! Wow…..happy jugak lar…. *smile widely*

Together with Bangsar Babe (not only lenglui but also a friendly person), Pin Pin of Food Foundry and Min Xian (the other selected entry), redeemed my mille crepe cake voucher. (I’ve already redeemed a Vanilla mille crepe cake, nicely shared with Alex and also my family)

1 week ago, the final result has announced! Received an FB notification, that my friend congratulated me. I was really surprised, overjoyed and excited knowing that I was selected as Best Photo Submission. Seriously I never expect there is such category and I felt lucky as well.

Thank you for giving me hope 😉

Here are my prizes… 😀

The prize giving ceremony was held at Maju Palace, a restaurant serving Chinese Halal food. Located at Maju Junction Mall.

Participants who came on the prize giving day. I meet new faces and I made new friends. It was a good 2 hours event.

Some light refreshment prepared by Maju Palace.

Bangsar Babe handing the prizes (vouchers) to me. Oh My….she was with a 5 inch gladiator heels…while me with a pair of Crocs rubber shoe… @_@

I look so dwarf short!

Lunch @ Restaurant I Delicious 爱特壹式港式茶餐厅, Seremban 2

Cough Cough Cough…..

hate the throat irritation, hate coughing coughing!

blame it on the bad weather, blame it on the lack of rest, and especially blame it on the lousy marrybrown fried chicken I had at LCCT few days back! The main culprit!

Alright….back to the main topic.

There’s a new restaurant at Uptown Avenue, Seremban 2. Uptown Avenue is currently the most happening area in Seremban 2. Restaurant I Delicious is like a Hong Kong style cafe serving non halal food. Opened since beginning of November 2012. So, I decided to give it a try.

Occupying 2 shop lots with smoking and non-smoking area.

HK Style Coffee (RM2.90), HK Style Yin Yong (RM3.20)…Both of these drinks are refillable. I personally preferred the coffee over yin yong. Felt that the yin yong has too much milk taste.

Curry Fish Ball – RM6.90

So so only. Wondering how come curry fish ball not curry gravy one? Looks more like chili fish ball @_@

Noodle Soup with Shredded Pork & Szechuan Vege – RM5.90

Normal but acceptable.

Spicy Seafood Noodle – RM6.90

The spiciness is bearable. But not much of seafood.

Honey Chicken Rice with Yam Ring – RM11.90 (recommended)

I like this! The fried yam ring is good (outer crisp & smooth yam). While the honey chicken is quite tasty and its not dry.

‘Fah Tiu’ Wine Bee Hoon – RM6.90

I also like this. Tasty soup with great ‘fah tiu’ wine taste. Cooked together with ginger strips, wolfberry and chicken. Taste like the one mom cooks at home!

Cendol & Rojak Stall @Putra Heights

Been living here at Putra Heights for almost a year. But wasn’t aware there’s a cendol stall in front of Onking electrical shop. A row of shops facing the main road. I passes by this road almost everyday! Probably because its closed when I reaches home around 7pm.

Till one day, Alex told me there’s a cendol stall or precisely a mobile stall because operated with a lorry. The other day, Alex ajak me to menjamu selera at this cendol stall. The lorry its parked by the road shoulder with ample space for them to place the tables and chairs. Eat cendol under the sun and trees not bad oso lor…..

Located in front of Onking Electrical shop. The place is quite shady. Thanks to the big trees.

A bowl of cendol at price of RM1.60 (size of a rice bowl).

I believed cendol is one of the best local dessert which also suits Malaysia’s weather.

This cendol has uses the right level of gula melaka which suits my liking. A not bad ratio between gula melaka and coconut milk. However I feel that the condiments (sweet corn, red beans and green-worm like jelly) is quite little. Not sure whether they have ‘pulut’ (glutinous rice)..if yes, you can ask to ‘tambah’ (add-on).

I saw people ordering rojak! Other than rojak they do serve mee goreng mamak, sup lembu, sup ayam. The ‘tam jiak’ me couldn’t be just satisfied with just cendol. So, I ordered a plate of rojak to share with Alex. Too bad I got a dinner to attend that evening. Else I will order the mee goreng mamak too! HAHAHA! A plate of rojak for RM3.80.

Mix together the julienne cucumber and turnips(sengkuang), fried beancurd and keropok with the sweet and not so spicy peanut sauce. It comes with 1 whole hard boiled egg. They gave generous pieces of crispy keropok…very niceee! *crunch crunch*

Product Review : Lennox FirmUp Collagen with OPC(Grapeseed Extract)

I’ve seen friends started to take collagen drink as early as age 20+.

I want to stay youthful despite my growing age. I don’t want to look so ‘aunty’ either. I don’t apply full make up to work, except for foundation and blusher.

I then asked my friend, why do we need to take collagen drink. She said, our body’s collagen level decreases as we age. Therefore a collagen drink acts like a supplement to us. Nevertheless sufficient rest or sleep is also important.

The collagen drink is a type of energy drink infused with collagen to help promote the body’s natural ability to produce the fatty tissue. The drink claims to stimulate the collagen-making mechanism in the body, which in turn will give the skin a more plump, younger look and feel by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and sagging. The collagen drink is said to do these things without the use of needles, collagen fillers, or the invasive surgery of collagen implants. The drink hails from Japan and comes in many variations.

Hence, there are too many collagen brands in the market. Some are in liquid form and some are in powder form, which you need to dissolves them in water. They comes with various pricing too. I discovered Lennox FirmUp Collagen’s price is cheaper than other brands.

The new Lennox FirmUp Collagen comes with a sachet of OPC(Grapeseed Extract), in powder form which has whitening effect. Add into the bottle of 50ml collagen. It taste like grape juice. After adding the OPC..the drink became more concentrated. Taste is acceptable to me.

How to consume?

For first timer, take 1 bottle daily at night for 10 days. After the 10th consumption, you can reduce it to a bottle every 2-3 days alternately at night. Best chilled and shake well before drink.

Product Ingredients:

Aqueous Marine Collagen, Co Enzyme Q10 and multivitamins.

Here’s how it works:

  • Low Molecule Collagen 5000mg
Effectively builds our skin moisture shield and promotes skin firmness, elasticity and suppleness. In comparison to conventional collagen in the market, it has finer molecules that can be easily absorbed by our body hence providing visible results in a shorter time span.
  • Co Enzyme Q10 100mg
Protects skin cells and collagen from damages of oxidization, improves energy of cells and promotes skin metabolism which helps to reduce or delay the appearance of wrinkles, varicose veins, cellulite, scars, age spots, edema and bruises.
  • Vitamin C 100mg
Vitamin C plays a crucial role in diminishing the effects of free radical damage. It is also an effective protector of the skin from ultraviolet rays’ damage. Besides that, Vitamin C also promotes the synthesis of collagen.
  • Vitamin E 50mg
It forms a shield that actively protects the skin from the destructive actions of oxidization.
  • OPC Grapeseed Extract Powder
    Anti-Oxidant & Whitening Essence

Verdict : After drinking few bottles I don’t see significant changes on me. But I do noticed that my skin tone has improved a little. An even skin tone. Perhaps one should consume consistently.

Beauty from within.

Have A Nice Day

Hamburg Steak on Sis’s Birthday

On Sis’s birthday, I suggested to mom that we make a simple dinner at home.

I guess nothing beats a comfort home cooked food!

I then told mom, why not we make hamburg from scratch. Mom agreed to it.

I think I’m in love with hamburg after trying one from Waku Waku. hehe….

I was looking for the recipe, then I recalled Baby Sumo did blog about it.

Here’s the recipe from Baby Sumo.

(I uses pork instead of beef)

Hamburg Steak (Hambāgu)

Recipe adapted from No Recipes
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 20-25 minutes
Makes 6-8 (depending on how big you make your patties)

Ingredients

1 large egg
1 small onion, finely diced
1 large clove garlic, minced
450g minced pork
170g silken tofu
1 cup mixture of fresh breadcrumb and crushed crackers (2 slices bread and 5 crackers)
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp parsley, minced
1 tsp light soy sauce
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp cooking oil
For the sauce
1/2 cup chicken stock (I uses Maggi chicken cube stock)
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp tonkatsu sauce (I substituted with Worchestershire sauce)
1 tbso demi-glace (couldn’t find this in KL so omitted)
1. In a frying pan over medium high heat, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and sauté half the onions until golden brown and caramelized. Allow to cool to room temperature.
2. Combine the pork, tofu, sautéd onions, raw onions, garlic, fresh breadcrumbs and crackers, egg, ketchup, oyster sauce, parsley, soy sauce and black pepper in a large bowl. Put some disposable gloves on and knead the mixture together until it is uniform in color and texture.

3. Add a little bit more oil to the frying pan that you fried the onions in and place over medium heat. Because the patties are on the soft side, you’ll want to form them and add them directly to the pan. The patties should be around 1″ thick.

4. Fry them until they’ve formed a dark brown crust on one side, about 1 1/2 minutes then use a spatula to carefully flip them over and brown the other side. Unless you have a very large pan, you won’t be able to do them all at once, so fry 4 at a time and transfer them to a plate when they’re browned on both sides. Don’t worry if they’re not cooked all the way through as they will finish cooking in the sauce.

5. After you’ve fried all the patties, drain off any excess oil (but don’t wash the pan as the brown stuff is what will give your sauce flavor). Add the chicken stock and boil until it’s reduced by about half in volume. Add the ketchup, water, Worchestershire sauce, and demi-glace (if using) and stir to combine.

6. Place the patties back into the pan, cover, and cook for 7 minutes, flipping them over once in the middle. Cook uncovered for another 3 minutes to thicken the sauce a little

The shaped up patties that are ready for frying.

With the help from mom, we made this hamburg steak. Eaten as burger!

Nom Nom…its a good recipe. The patties are tasty and yummy! My niece especially enjoyed eating this ‘burger’ 😉

Mummy’s hardwork on these Pai Tee. It was her 1st attempt. No wonder those selling in restaurants are expensive. To fry the mould/hat is quite tedious.

On Sis’s birthday 2 weeks ago…we had this Strawberry Tart from RT Pastry House.

If you are a fan of Mousse cake and a fan of white chocolate, I’m sure you will love this. Smooth white chocolate mouse with a thin layer of sponge cake and biscuit crumbs coating the whole cake. The cake is very fresh! But the strawberries are quite sour. Hahaha….8in (1 kg) for RM63.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIS! ♥

Time is moving fast.

Time is moving fast. I mean real fast.

Before I could realize, its already end of the year. I don’t really remember what have I done throughout the year other than eating. HAHAHA!
It is true that TIME wait for no one.

I wish I could adjust the time. Hoping that the working hours could move faster and the non-working days could move a little slower. hehehe…. I know this wish will never come true. Hence, I do not understand why Alex still doesn’t want to install the wall clock despite us moving into our new house for almost a year. Maybe he doesn’t want to watch the ticking time.

Time is moving fast before we could really appreciate things. I must really fill my time with more HAPPINESS!

Yes…happy news came in recently. My friend Wanyi has just gave birth last week. Yays….I’ve naik pangkat to be a “Kai Ma”! ^_^

This photo was taken on February 2012, when I had a dream about Wanyi telling me she is pregnant on the week before we meet up. The dream became reality when Wanyi went home tested a positive pregnancy strip. We were happy for her!

On May, we even traveled together to Bangkok.

On 1st of November, proudly announcing the arrival of Abel Boy. The miracle of God’s creation!

CONGRATULATIONS to Wanyi & Yew Kong.

I am one happy Kai Ma!

Look how adorable is Abel. The photocopy of Yew Kong. hahaha….

Alex said Abel is Yew Kong & Wanyi’s iPhone 6. Since they both kinda like Apple products. Hehehe….

Product Review : NARUKO Rose & Snow Fungus Classic Hydrating Night Gelly

At age 30s, I started to be more concern about my skin. Hoping that I would not look older than my age. Besides living a healthy lifestyle, skincare is equally important too although I do not have major skin/ acne problem. Picking a right skincare that suits your skin may be tedious at times. I do not invest on very expensive skincare products and to find out the results which is just average I thought.

Working long hours in an air-conditioned room and sometimes working under the sun, may leave my skin quite dry or dehydrated. In this case, hydration will be my main concern as well as anti-aging.

Recently, I was given an opportunity to try NARUKO Rose & Snow Fungus Classic Hydrating Night Gelly. I’ve heard and also I’ve tried before NARUKO’s products. One of the popular brand in Taiwan. The price is affordable and it works pretty good.

NARUKO has wide range of skin care products. However, Rose & Snow Fungus Classic Hydrating Night Gelly is specially formulated for mature and dry skin. Other than hydration, it also has anti-aging formula which repairs and hydrates skin during night time.

What it smells? Nice rose scent…reminds me of ‘sirap bandung’.

What is the texture? Its translucent white. Texture between gel and cream.

I uses my clean hand to scoop out a small amount of NARUKO Rose & Snow Fungus Classic Hydrating Night Gelly which is sufficient to apply on my whole face. You may feel it abit sticky after applying. But once its fully absorb into your skin..its fine. I uses this like a night mask, after cleansing my face.

The overnight water restoration makes my skin dewy and smoother the following day. The moisture content really helps. Now my face T-zone no longer as oily as before.

Where to buy? You can make your online purchase through Natta Cosme.

Good news for my readers. For every purchase above RM50, you may enjoy rebate of RM5. Simply key in melissa633 on the ‘use coupon code’ for the instant discount. 😉
