Lunch @ Zouk Cafe Bar, The Gardens Mall

Its a new place to us. Though we walked passed this place several times. Then an opportunity came. The discounted deal. We thought this could be a good chance for us to try the food here.

With groupon’s deal of just RM19… What am I getting here?

Zouk Cafe Bar Burger or Spaghetti Bolognese + Free Flow Soft Drink.

We are the Burger Aunties Ladies!! All 3 of us chose burger instead of pasta :-p

The modern yet sophisticated design gave me the urge to try the food.

We made ourselves comfortable. The environment plus the ambiance here is good. Nice place to catch up with friends. Erm…but not a romantic place lar…

Good hospitality during our visit. Our drinks were refilled constantly without any reminder. **and that ‘somebody’ was so thirsty lo…**

I’ve read some blogs mentioned that the service here is VERY SLOW & Inefficient. However during our visit, it was fine. Food served pretty quick and quite efficient too.

Assorted cakes are served here. Hope to return for their cakes ^^

Wanyi’s choice of Beef Burger

Zouk Cafe Bar Burger served together with coleslaw and french fries. Looks good…too bad, the beef patty was quite dry.

Ashley and I chose Chicken Burger. Apart from the french fries and coleslaw…the burger was so so only.  I felt the lack of juiciness on the meat patties.

 The collapsing burger tower.

Ashley had a tough time handling the ‘tower’.

We thought it wouldn’t be enough….so, we ordered an additional plate of Fish Fingers from the menu for RM15++. The fried fish fingers were good. Crispy batter and not too oily.

The potential Zouk Ambassador??? LMAO!!

BreakTime @BlackBall Taiwanese Tea & Dessert, SS15

I’ve heard some positive reviews about this place. BlackBall, serving Taiwanese Tea & Dessert. When it comes to Taiwan dessert…I always got the urge to try. Currently there are 4 outlets in Klang Valley, 3 in JB, 2 in Penang and 1 will be opening in Melaka. I knew there’s an outlet located at Subang SS15, quite convenient to me. Without much hesitation, I made my way there. Yalah….I want to compare theirs with Snowflake ma. ^^

Well..I won’t be writing about their infos, history and so on. Its all well explained in their webbie. So, lets take a look at the food photos here.

The concept is just like the other competitors. Self service. Place an order, pay and wait for your order.

BlackBall Wintermelon – RM6.90

Its a new introductory. Not sure whether is this a seasonal item. However I reckon its quite special. What we often sees are usually ‘grass jelly’. Instead of grass jelly, here they have Wintermelon jelly. It tasted good. A bowl of icy dessert with complete (sufficient) toppings. Both my beloved ‘taro balls’ and ‘pearls’ are there.

Anything printed with the word ‘signature’, I assume its ‘recommended’. Snowflake named it as ‘Bestseller’. Here, they named it as BlackBall Signature – RM6.50. Well…you can choose either cold or hot. The BlackBall Signature combines grass jelly ice, taro ball, taro Q, red bean, pearl and topped with grass jelly.

Added creamer

Pearls are chewy. Same goes to the taro balls. Though the taro balls are chewy, somehow its lack of flavor. Hardly taste the flavor of the sweet potato and taro(yam).

Other than desserts, they served drinks(tea) too.

(from left) Boba Milk Tea – RM5.90 (average)

QQ Cranberry Lemon Juice – RM5.90 (a lil sourish & very refreshing)

Winter Melon Tea with Sky Pearl – RM5.90 (good choice for winter melon fans)

Overall Rating – 6.5/10 (Based on individual preferences)

I Live in “Boleh” Land Ma…

I live and grow up in Malaysia.

Malaysia is my beloved country.

In this peaceful country, we are always capable in many things. That’s why we often have the strong spirit of “Malaysia Boleh!”

When you say impossible. I say, Boleh…Can…可以….முடியும்…

What’s more? We are very good in implementing new stuff but hardly maintain it.

Malaysia Boleh Ma….

Below are some of my favorite picks.

We created lots of records. For the longest….the biggest….so and so.

We have Proton, our “branded” local cars. Which sold at lower price in the foreign countries (source from internet)

We once have on this beautiful “Eye on Malaysia”, transportable Ferris Wheel. Cantik kan? From year 2007 to 2008 it was located in KL.Then its transported to Melaka (just like funfair..can pindah here and there) till year 2010. And now its ‘vanished’. Luckily I managed to have a pleasant ride.

We have Komuter (1 of the main transport) since year 1995, but hardly arrive on time or often breaks down.I traveled 1 hour and 20 minutes just to reach Midvalley (from Seremban) – minus the waiting time. (if you missed one..pls wait another 30 minutes). Ohh ya, not forgetting if you like to have some free sauna session, please hoop in during peak hours. Bestnya…..

Then they introduced the ‘Coach for ladies only’ in komuter since year 2010. Of cos I’m jumping in joy la…I won’t be getting some ‘hamsup‘ stare wat. But hor…I often sees MAN getting into the coach. Hmm…they can’t understand the symbol? Or the MANs wore skirt?

Then on year 2010 we spent so much on Malacca Monorail Project . Kononya to attract tourist la..but broke down several time since the operation started. Passengers gotto get down from the stalled monorail using ladder (with the help from Bomba)

Then on year 2011 we set up own brand products. Yuhuu…the 1Malaysia brand, the not very cheap price products. I brave myself experimenting the lychee. *Feel so proud la* Alamak….sourish punya le…

Then the latest one, we are getting Lynas into our country despite multiple disagreements from the citizens. Opps…not getting. Its already consider as an on-going project. Government proclaimed that “its safe ma!!”  Why you all still scare.

Today, we are getting new coaches le…*So Hepi*…I was told that the coach is longer and our waiting time will be reduced wor. Let me take a ride this weekend. Lets not grumble…see…we bought new trains le…must feel proud ma…

Below are some feedback I gathered from friends.

  • Ashley – the thais can be bumi but not other races who have been residents since looooong time… for generations… M’sia BOLEH!
  • Angeline – our RM cant do currency exchange in bank in China.. they accept SGD, Brunei Dollar.. sigh

Well…you’ll gotto love my country more…We are the BOLEH country ma. 😉

The Chinese Way of Moving Home

The Chinese believes in lotsa Feng Shui and also lotsa pantang larang (taboos).

Pantang Larang during Wedding

Pantang Larang during Pregnancy

Pantang Larang during Moving Home

Pantang Larang during Chinese New Year

Pantang Larang during ‘Ghost Month’

& more more…….

When we finally moved to our new home, we sort of practice or follow some of the ‘pantang larang’ too. Since people already mentioned what is suppose and whats not suppose…so we tried to follow lor. Some may think it sounds ridiculous. Well..we just try to accommodate the simple and non-complicated ones.

I managed to get the info from this webbie. HOUSE OF FENG SHUI

  • Find a suitable auspicious date and time according to The Chinese Almanac (通胜).The birth data of the family members (八字), priority of which goes to the head of the family is calculated and factored for best results. This should be done in consultation with a qualified professional. I only refer to Lilian Too’s calender.
  • Light up the strategic locations within the home the day before the official moving in date.- I only light up on the day we moved in.
  • On the appointed day and hour, open the main door with your right hand.- hurrmm….I think should be right hand, since all of us are right-handed.
  • Say a silent prayer and proclaim you are the rightful owner taking possession of your home.Didn’t do.
  • The head of the family enters the home with his left foot in first over any steps or threshold with the sales agreement, marriage certificate, bank accounts and all documents of relevance and value to the family.Didn’t do.
  • Perform the rites or ceremonies you have privately arranged including any consecration or positioning of the altar. We do not have any altar in our home.
  • Open all doors and windows to allow the flow of energies. Sprinkle handfuls of salt and rice mixture at corners of each space, followed by space clearing with a singing bowl. – Ohh…this one we did. Sprinkled mixture of rice+salt+tea leaves on every corners surrounding our home.
  • Light up and turn on water pipes, gas and electrical appliances in order to declare the preparedness and perfect function of your new home. – Hurrmm..we do not have gas..but we did turn on the water pipes.
  • Light up a stove with charcoal to symbolize a bright career, warmth at home and the ‘passing on from one generation to the next’. Put a kettle over the stove to boil.Ohh…we did this. We do not have kettle, but we used a pot.
  • Receive a ceremonial red packet and place it at the bottom of the wooden rice urn. Fill it up with rice to the brim and stick a red and gold sticker that denotes ‘Fullness’ (满).Didn’t do.
  • The lady of the house will now follow into the kitchen with the five essentials to ensure a stable supply of food on the table. They are a bottle each of cooking oil, soy sauce and vinegar plus a packet of salt and sugar. Throw in your pots, pans, bowls, chopsticks, forks and spoons.Didn’t do.
  • The children will troop in with buckets, pails and cleaning aids. Leave the broom to a later day.Didn’t do
  • Move in your safe into the Northwest sector of the house or a location as advised by your consultant. Request for another red packet from an elder to symbolize continuation and expansion of the family’s fortune.Didn’t do.
  • The lady of the house now puts up the fresh flowers arrangement in the living room area. This may include Orchids (representing purity), Magnolia (for nobility) and Lily (of good fortune and desires).Didn’t do.
  • You could also include a basket of fresh fruits comprising Oranges (for prosperity), Apples (for safety), Pineapple (for good fortune), Pomegranate (for opportunities) and Peaches (for good health).Didn’t do.
  • Symbols of good fortune found in various customs also include a platter of Prosperity Cakes (发糕) for good luck, Turnip Cakes (顺糕) for an obstacles-free life and the Peach Cakes (桃糕) for longevity. These are very Asian and localized delicacies, which are not commonly found elsewhere.Didn’t do.
  • Moving in is reserved strictly for immediate family members and should not include guests. The house-warming party is a separate matter.Pheww..luckily I did not invite friends but just my family members.
  • Cook a meal and serve tea with the boiled water from the stove. Allow the charcoal to burn out before cleaning it up and then filling it up with fresh charcoal to be place under the cooking cabinet (to ensure stability of income and uninterrupted supply of food on the table). – Mom cooks ‘Bihun Goreng’.

Hung the red cloth at the main door before lighting the stove.

The flaming charcoal stove…

With help from hubby & my brother to move the stove into our house and place it in the middle of the living hall. (for about 1/2 to 1 hour)

***Finally Alex and I own a HOME, after so long. We are now living happily***

ZenQ Dessert @ Sunway Pyramid

We often heard about the popular Snowflake dessert. But these days we are getting more and more of the cloning ones. (sorry to say that). What I like most about these desserts is the ‘taro balls’. Originally from Taiwan. And I’ve had a good one at Jiufen, Taiwan. So, basically I’ll be grading them base on the ‘taro balls’. hehehe….then the pearls, then the milk tea.

I spotted ZenQ located near Burger King of Sunway Pyramid and I decided to give it a try. Well…actually I’m trying to compare if there’s anyone able to beat Snowflake.

ZenQ serving both cold and hot desserts. Not forgetting drinks as well.

The popular Taiwanese dessert, here I got myself a bowl of ZenQ MySignature for RM7.50. Beneath is the Grass Jelly ice, topped with a layer of Grass Jelly and complemented with their chewy brown sugar coated Pearls and the jelly-textured starch noodles. Not forgetting also Q Yuan (taro balls). Each color are made from different ingredient. Orange = Sweet Potato, White = Yam, Green = Green Tea/Matcha.

Added creamer.

A closer look on this ‘grass jelly series’. Since I’m emphasizing on the taro balls…I would say that ZenQ’s taro balls are below average. I felt that its lack of the ‘chewy-ness’ lar. Moreover I would suggest you not to add the creamer. It became so ‘pekat’ (concentrated) before I could finish half. **quite geli lor**

For drink, I’ve tried ‘Passion fruit Green Tea-RM4.90’ and ‘Aiyu Baby Pearl Winter Melon Tea-RM5.90’. I reckon ‘Aiyu Baby Pearl Winter Melon Tea’ is not bad. Aromatic winter melon tea and whereby you can chew the chewy baby pearls, crunchy basil seeds and jelly noodles.

***Unfortunately the dessert above did not meet my expectation….

OMG! I felt so outdated lah!

I usually watches movies from TGV cinema. To me TGV are more accessible.

I can’t remember when was my last visit to GSC. That must be quite sometime ago. Yesterday, Alex wanted to watch The Wedding Diary. It would be either we go Summit USJ Mall or Puchong IOI Mall, which are nearer to our staying place. Unfortunately, this movie is not shown in Summit USJ. Therefore we decided to choose GSC, Puchong IOI Mall. I made an online purchase through GSC website. (you are required to sign up an account in order to make an online purchase)

Same as TGV, I received a copy of confirmation number sent to my email address. It stated there ‘SelfPrint Ticket’. So, I printed a hardcopy and I assumed that should be my ticket. When we arrived at the cinema, I asked the ‘check-ticket boy’, whether can we enter using this ‘SelfPrint Ticket’. He then replied, yes…please scan here. I was like ‘Ohhh…thank you’…..(Wahh…now so Hi-tech edi le…..). At that point, I felt so outdated. Dunno since when they implemented this ‘hi-tech’ thing for e-ticketing.

For TGV e-ticketing…you’ll have to collect your movie tickets purchased at the selected cinema by producing confirmation ID of the transaction at the ticketing counter. See….its different.

Scan the Barcode on top right of page before entry. You may either you print the page or save it in your phone.

p/s : Don’t laugh at this ‘katak di bawah tempurung’ lady ya…Muahahha…

Tutti Frutti Froyo @ Seremban 2

Since my parent’s house is at Seremban 2, I would love to explore all the makan spot here (if possible). What I like about Seremban 2 is I don’t need to travel down town, yet still able to get most of the stuff here. ^^

Frozen Yogurt (Froyo) is getting popular these days. Everybody is cautious about the healthier way for desserts. Unfortunately, in Seremban we have very limited choice. Here, the recent one is Tutti Frutti. Its a franchise network which are growing very fast. In Malaysia….since year 2009 up to today, they have like around 104 outlets. Tutti Frutti (Malaysia ) is a company within the NAZA Group of Companies.

The Health Benefits of Froyo
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Prevents constipation, diarrhea and bloating
  • Prevents colon cancer
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Lowers cholesterol levels
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves mineral absorption
  • Prevents harmful bacteria
  • Promotes health bacteria and enzymes that are good for the body

What is special about Tutti Frutti?

Guess its because they have varieties of flavors and its self-served yogurt.

What does it mean by self-served yogurt?

Get a cup size (3 sizes to choose)–> Choose Flavor (pump your desired yogurt flavor from dispenser)–> Add Toppings (choose any toppings that you like from the counter)–> Weight and Pay.

A row of yogurt dispensers which able to control the temperature and consistency of these frozen yogurt. Each dispenser filled with different flavors.

Step 1 – Select a cup (from 3 sizes). The steps are clearly shown in the store. And the steps are as easy as ABC rite?

Step 2 – Dispense & Mix Frozen Yogurt. Chose the flavors and getting help from my brother to dispense into the cup. Well…you are able to mix many flavors in a cup too.

Assorted toppings. Looking colorful….

Step 3 – Pick Favorite Toppings. I want to add ‘nata de coco’! hehe…

Would you like to have some glazing??

Step 4 – Weigh & Pay.  Price is RM5.30/100g.

My cups of Froyo for the day. Sadly their Froyo is below average 😦

Not creamy. Not smooth. Not dense. Melts pretty quick too….

However its a nice place to hang out with friends and family. It will be fun to create your own cup of frozen yogurt!

Dinner @ Sumo Japanese Restaurant, USJ 9

On Valentine day……

Alex and I decided to dine out.

I was worried about the jam on road, therefore I tried to get a place which is not too far from our home. Then, I asked Wanyi for suggestion since she’s more familiar to places in Subang. I told her I wanted Japanese food. So, she suggested  Sumo Japanese Restaurant located at USJ 9, opposite Taipan Subang. She claimed that the food is nice and price is affordable too. Great! That would be around 15 minutes drive from my home.

The restaurant, owned by husband and wife team Paul Foong and Joanne Ong.

Though the restaurant is not very spacious, but we able to have our meal comfortably too. There’s a section where you can have more privacy. Probably for functions.

The working chef and his assistant. It was really a busy night for them. Customers were coming in and out of the restaurant. And I observed quite a number of them are the regular customers. Probably because the owner is friendly or the food is good??

The prices shown on the menu is quite reasonable too.

We were served Miso Soup each. (Included in the set we ordered)

Shishamo – RM9.90

**The boat is about to sail** Don’t you think these Sashimi looks pretty? Good presentation too.

Sashimi Mix Deluxe – RM46

The raw fish were fresh and I have no complain on this.

Chicken Teriyaki Sizzling – RM22.90

This dish is served with a bowl of rice. The portion was quite big. Somehow I felt it tasted a lil too sweet for me.

Special Bento (set) – RM31

Comes with sushi, tempura and chawanmushi. However both chawanmushi & tempura were just average only.

A closer look on the sushi. The sushi were not bad. While the rice are firm and won’t fall easily.

Green Tea Ice Cream with Red Bean – RM7.50

Last but not least…to end the meal with a satisfying dessert. Though I’m not really a great fan of green tea ice cream, but I do think that their green tea ice cream is good! Very creamy, smooth and has a good taste of green tea. It goes well with the red bean paste which is not too sweet.

My not so romantic HB surprised me with a bouquet of red roses.

Happy Valentine Day & Love you, Darling ^^

Happy Valentine Day 2012

On eve of Valentine day, I planned and prepared a simple 3 course meal just for the 2 of us (Alex & I)— our first pre-Valentine in our new home. I do not have long hours of preparations (time is not permitted) and I’m not yet a good chef either…. *stick out tongue*

I do understand that if you love someone, everyday is a Valentine. But ……on 14 Feb is still a special day too ma….. 😉

I return home from work and quickly get myself commit to the kitchen. ^^

Table for 2 at 8.30pm?? Not really a surprise one lah, because Alex roughly knew what I was about to prepare.

Lunch @ Overtime Bar & Restaurant, Seremban

Honey…I’ll be home late, today..OVERTIME.

Definition of ‘Overtime’

-working time  before or after one’s regularly scheduled working hours; extra working time.

Today, the understanding of ‘Overtime’ is different.

Here, I’m referring to Overtime Bar & Restaurant. Its nothing related to work. Hence Overtime has became a popular hangout place. There are so many outlets in Klang Valley.

Overtime is known for their very own STARKER fresh beer. Starker fresh beer is made especially for Malaysian to have a taste of fresh beer that is rare especially in the Malaysian market. The taste palate of starker fresh beer is formulated to suit the lifestyle and eating habits of Malaysian to go well with most of Malaysia’s local cuisine.

Well…good news to Seremban folks. Overtime is now in Seremban. Open its door for business since end of year 2011.

The Interior.

Well..if you are here at night, you’ll be entertain with live band too.

During Chinese New Year break, me and my high school friends decided to meet at Overtime…(a new place for us here). Though everyone is busy all the time…we hardly meet. But we will usually try our best to at least meet during CNY.

We were there at 12pm(opening time). And they were having the promo of (buy 1 free 1 pint) from 12-7pm daily. Here I chose ‘Aromatic’. Golden yellow in appearance, a medium bodied beer with fresh fruity hints and herbal aroma. Malty-sweet in taste with apparent citrus notes, leading to a refreshingly clean and crisp after-taste.

Not bad…the taste wasn’t too strong and its smooth. For 1st timer…you may choose this.

Let’s see what we’ve ordered.

Sang Har Yi Mien – RM28

Crispy noodles soaked in flavorful sauce.

The gravy was just average while the prawn was not fresh.  =_=

Duck Alfredo – RM19

Fettuccine Pasta tossed in traditional Alfredo sauce with Parmesan cheese and topped with sliced smoked duck.

The smoked duck itself tasted quite well. While for pasta…*sigh* so bland!!

Crispy Pork Knuckle – RM52

Pork knuckle marinated in chef’s secret and deep fried until the skin is crisp.

(RECOMMENDED!) This is the best among the other 2 above. The skin is indeed crispy. While the meat is tender and not overcooked. Moreover the portion was BIG!

~~~~~~till me we meet again….
