My Favorite Food @ Pasar Besar Seremban

Pasar Besar or wet market is the place we usually find fresh vege and meat. How often do we recall it as a place serving good local authentic food? Or shall I say food heaven?? A place I would like to recommend here is Pasar Besar Seremban. The food stalls are located on 1st floor. Hence; there are few stalls that I would like to emphasize here because they are my favorite! Unfortunately, to find a parking here; is kinda testing your patience and luck especially during peak hours. (before 10am). However you wouldn’t want to be too late to arrive there(after 12pm) because some of the food may be sold out by then.

Last Saturday, I made an effort to try them along with my mom & brother. The 3 of us were kinda like eating from 1 spot to another, sharing the serving all together so that we would be able to taste each of it.

The Exterior of Pasar Besar Seremban

1)  Tow Kee Hakka Mee

A family business which formerly runs by their father. There is another shop with same owner located at Jalan Kapitan Tam Yeong. Both shops are now operating by 2 brothers.

I ordered for Large size = RM3.70

What I like about this noodle? Love the tangy-ness of the home-made noodle topped with tasty minced pork. Simple yet very popular!!  (the green thing is pickled chili)

2) Mee Hoon Sotong (Cuttlefish Vermicelli) – (stall No. 753)

A plate of this = RM3.50 (only 1 standard size)

The mee hoon is fried (not really deep fry), flooded with a brown color gravy then topped with braised pork slice, sotong(cuttlefish) and vegetable.

3) Konlou ‘Lou Shu Fun’ – (stall No. 735)

RM2.70(small),  RM3.20(big)

I’m a big fans of ‘lou shu fun’. Therefore I mustn’t miss this. And if you are 1 of them too…I foresee you will surely like it too. Another simple noodle, yet popular and taste good.  Why do I said simple? The lou shu fun just mix with some sauce (light soya sauce, dark soya sauce, oil) & topped with yummylious minced pork!

4) Mee Rojak – (stall No. 785)

This mee rojak is similar to the mamak’s version. You may order without the ‘mee’ (yellow noodle). What’s hidden under the sauce?? Kuih udang, tofu, potatoes. I topped up an additional piece of keropok udang. The sauce is of sweet and sour taste. This plate of rojak is RM4.00.

5) Sugarcane Juice – (stall No. 749)

Sugarcane Juice with Lime = RM1.60

On a hot and sunny day; this is best to quench our thirst. Oh ya, the owner claimed this is his new creation of sugarcane. “Sugarcane Juice with Lemon”. *a sip through my drying throat* ehh…taste good leh… so refreshing and the sweetness is so natural. Moreover I saw the sugarcane was process only once. Unlike some traders who uses the same cane through the sugarcane processor for several times.

Unfortunately; I have no chance to try the beef noodles which was told very nice & famous because I can’t take beef =_=

All the stalls above have been operating for many years.

My all time favorite

When we are talking about breakfast and you are in Malaysia, you can easily get varieties of choices to be chosen from Chinese, Malay and Indian food. The common ones are dim sum, roti canai, mee goreng, laksa, kuih-muih and much more. Of course not forgetting my favorite NASI LEMAK!!

When I’m out of Malaysia, what I miss most is a plate of nasi lemak with lots of sambal! How can you resist a hot serving plate of nasi lemak. Nothing is better than that. ^^

There’s a nasi lemak stall just a walking distance from my house who sells a good nasi lemak. I usually buy a pack of nasi lemak from her for my breakfast (not everyday for sure). The main concern thing in nasi lemak is a good sambal with a nice fragrant rice. Each time I reaches the stall, I was greeted by the friendly mak cik.

Mak Cik : Good Morning….

Mel : Good Morning….

Mak Cik : Nak ape??

Mel : Nasi Lemak, sambal asing…sambal lebih boleh, kak?

Mak Cik : Bolehhh….suka makan pedas ye…

Mel : hehehehhe….

The nasi lemak stall (sorry, the photo was take quite a distance)

A pack of nasi lemak for just RM1.20. I asked for the sambal to be separated so that the oil from sambal won’t mix on the rice.

Karipap(curry puffs) is also my favorite too. Each are sold at 40 cents.

The sambal kerang(cockles) is nice too! RM2 for the quantity above.

Ready Made Stuffed Paratha

Roti paratha or usually named as roti canai which normally seen at a mamak stall, can now found in supermarkets. Its so convenient.

Last weekend, I saw none other than the normal plain(kosong) roti paratha, but a stuffed roti paratha(at Jusco Supermarket). There were 2 different stuffing sold. The one I decided to purchase is stuffed with ‘tomato and onion’. While the other one is stuffed with ‘mixed vegetables’. Each packed of 4 pieces cost not more than RM4.  Apparently all you need to do is just pan-fry it with a non-stick pan. Best served during tea-time. 🙂

an attractive packing

when its ready to serve

Sliced it. Ehhhh??? Macam not similar to the photo shown on pack lah. Tomato sauce too little lah…Anyhow; the roti is nice because not too thick & its crispy! Moreover the taste is good leh. *grinned*

Ohh ya, not forgetting a bowl of yummy curry to dish with it. A must have curry! (curry bought elsewhere)

Dinner @ T C Keong Restaurant

A place where you can get hommie food with an affordable price! Its a ‘tai chow’ restaurant which strongly recommended by my boss. With a tagline of “peng, leng, cheng” (cheap, nice, superb).

Did tried their food few times, but this time I brought my family for dinner there.

Its always crowded especially during lunch & dinner hour. Well, I went on Saturday night. Arrived and managed to get a vacant table and it was about 8pm. However, we waited for about 40 minutes for our ordered dishes to be served. Looks like its either that you have to be early or you don’t mind waiting. Bear in mind, do not wait with an empty stomach. Because a hungry man can be an angry man!  *Laughs*

Steamed Bitter Gourd & Pork Ribs with Black Beans – RM12

Erm; nothing much to shout about this dish. However the bitter gourd is well-cooked in a sense that its not too hard & good thing its that it don’t taste bitter too.

Assam Prawns & Squids (Tamarind Prawns & Squids) – RM25

A recommended dish! Especially for assam lovers. Moreover the prawns & squids are fresh and big. I love the gravy very much. Adds extra appetite if to eat with plain white rice.

Hong Siu Fish Head (deep-fried and braised in sauce) – RM26

Another recommended dish! A deep fried fish focusing only the fish head area, crispy on the outer part, yet maintained the good texture of its flesh.

Seaweed Soup – RM7

Ordered a soup dish because baby Vernice likes to have soup. Whats in the soup? As you can see other than seaweed, there are sliced carrots, fish cakes, baby corns, sliced pork, few pieces of small prawns & spring onion.

Stir-fry Vege – RM7

All of us enjoyed the meal very much!

This is so ME

After the drink at Starbucks; Wei Chi and I head over to Vincci Accessories. There were on going sales. Checking out the accessories such as necklaces, rings, earrings, pouches, belts. Ahaa….spotted this necklace which really caught my attention and somehow got the feeling of ‘this is so me’ thingy. Without much hesitation, I told myself, I want to have this.

Look! Its a miniature camera pendant. It cost RM31.20 after 20% discount.

You might feel surprised seeing this…can you spot the word “DSLR” on it?? Don’t you think its way too cute??

Vernice: Chik Chak! I’m using this to capture photo of you, yiyi. haha….

Can’t stop using Vernice as the model. She’s good you know.

Portraits of Wei Chi @ Starbucks

Wei Chi is a friend of mine since primary school. We used to stay back after school hours for our co-curricular activities; i.e: Taekwondo, Red Cresent and also tuition class. We still keep in touch with each other till today.(yes, I’m still waiting for her wedding day to come!!)

She called me up few days ago and asked to meet up on last Saturday. Since we were both in Seremban, the nearest place to meet would be at Jusco Seremban. We decided to hang around at Starbucks. Ordered a drink each & a slice of cake, we shared. Took out my camera and did some portraits photoshoot of Wei Chi. I told her; “don’t look at the camera…just pose naturally & talk as usual.”

The 1st Step

Has finally taken the very 1st step! The long awaiting of hunting, viewing and time consumed. It took us 6 months to achieve. Gone through so much of disappointment and turn downs. It was either, the price just too high or it sold out soon. I understand that good stuffs are usually high in demand. People nowadays buy property without even bother to view it. We got really very disappointed each time when we were about to pay the deposit to book the house, we were told that the house is sold. Normally its just a time interval of few hours or 1/2 day.

It is a house we are owning soon! Hubby and I both feeling proud of ourselves. With our capability and savings, we has successfully worked it out together. Its the toughest part, especially owning a landed property in KL. YES. I can say that we are kinda broke now. I must say that buying a second hand house is not easy. As you got to bear the lawyer fee and the stamping fee which is not cheap! Now that I felt much relieved, at least we had secured a house. Apparently the properties are getting more and more expensive nowadays.

1st step has taken. Soon, it would be on 2nd step. FURNISHING! I wouldn’t dare to calculate the sum I’m going to spend before moving in. As there would be minor touch ups(painting on living hall & master bedroom) and furnishing. All these really involving alot of money. Trying to work with the minimal cost. Hope there sure to be a solution when the day comes.

Peek A Boo….Will reveal it in future.

My Simple Macaroni in Soup with Luncheon Meat

Basically it was just a mix & match with what I’ve got from the refrigerator. I just want to make a simple and quick dinner. Since there were still some leftover luncheon meat, I decided to make Macaroni in Soup with Luncheon Meat. This dish is often sees in Hong Kong breakfast menu. However I wasn’t sure how they prepared or cooked it lah… Therefore I came up with my own method lor…

What you need:-

  • Macaroni
  • Luncheon Meat
  • Frozen Mixed Vegetables
  • Chicken stock
  • Cooking wine

How to prepare:-

1) Boil the macaroni in a separate pot of water.

2) Cut the luncheon meat into slices. Pan fry it and put aside.

3) Boil a pot of water and add in chicken stock when the water is boiling.

4) Add in the mixed vegetables.

5) Some salt to taste

6) Just before I switch off the stove, I added 1 tablespoon of cooking wine into the soup.

To serve:-

Add some spring onion and fried shallot. Finally, place 2 slices of luncheon meat onto the macaroni with soup.
