Chicken Rice Ball @ HOE KEE

Alex & I were on 2 nights stay in Melaka. On the 1st day; we decided to head over to Melaka town to have the famous chicken rice ball. This restaurant is usually full when it meets any public holidays or long weekends. You will usually sees tourist queuing up in a long queue.

The rice are boiled till its cooked. When the rice is still warm, immediately they will shape them into round round, ping pong ball liked shaped. It is popular among the Hainanese. Why is it round? Here are the reason:- (source from Wikipedia)

“The rice was originally shaped into balls because it needed to be kept warm from the time it was cooked (often earlier in the day) until mealtime. The rice balls, when stored in wooden containers, apparently stayed warm for a longer time. The other theory is that the rice balls were more portable and were easier for labourers working on plantations to transport from home.”

This dish is eaten the same way as the regular version of chicken rice, making sure to get a portion of chicken, some rice and the soy and chili condiment into each mouthful.

our order

the appetizing Assam Fish – RM24

A plate of rice balls. Consists of 10pieces.  Just enough for both of us. –RM3

The rice is not too hard. Its soft yet firm. Quite tasty though.

A plate of chicken – RM9

The chicken meat is so tender. With some soy sauce on the base of the chicken, made it even tastier.

Chili sauce which MUST go along with the rice & chicken

Dinner at Cravo Cravo

Since we are staying in Philea Resort; so we decided to have our dinner there. Currently only Cravo Cravo is operating. It is located near the lobby.

It was on Sunday, therefore they won’t be serving buffet dinner. Then we opt for ala-carte.

the ambiance of the restaurant-very relaxing feel

Surprisingly we were the only couple whom had our dinner there. I guessed probably because its Sunday, many of the guest has gone home. Sounds like we have booked the entire restaurant. Isn’t that GREAT! 😀

After browsing through the menu; we decided on our order. Lets see what we’ve ordered.

Watermelon Juice – RM15++

a complimentary warm bun along with butter before the meal

Braised Fish Lip & Seafood – RM19++

(vegetable & seafood dumpling) – starter

Mediterranean Grilled Chicken – RM49++

(served with bed of baked vegetable, topped with Vietnamese Roll)

Provencale Herb Crust Lamb Rack – RM79++

(served with polenta grilled courgettes roasted garlic juice)

the above 2 photos are:-

Baked Sweet Tropical Mango in Fillo Pastry (with Ice Cream) – RM22++

had a snapshot before we left.

Braised Fish Lip & Seafood – as a starter, the soup did added appetite to me

Mediterranean Grilled Chicken – they used chicken breast, which I felt its abit dry. But the Vietnamese roll is nice.

Provencale Herb Crust Lamb Rack – the lamb ribs are tasty. If there’s extra gravy, it will add some credit to it.

Baked Sweet Tropical Mango in Fillo Pastry (with Ice Cream) – the baked mango in fillo pastry is unique. It combines well with the chocolate flavor ice cream!

Taiwan Steamboat at “Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant”

Met up Jeanly at The Gardens on Saturday before attended Chin Hock & Ching Ching’s wedding in Mines Wellness Resort. Initially we thought of having sushi from the restaurant opposite Fong Lye. However failed to do so because we gotto wait for 15 minutes to be seated. Well; since Fong Lye is just opposite it…then I said why not lunching there, moreover Jeanly have not tried it. Its my 2nd time trying their food. Food wise I can still say it has wide range of choice, ambiance wise….don’t really like , macam pasar when its crowded, same goes to the table arrangement for 2. So close to each other…The feeling was like; “can I share your food”??  =_=

After looking through the menu; both of us were undecided on what to order. Jeanly was worrying the big portion of the food served. Therefore; I suggested why not we order a set of taiwan steamboat to share among us. We ordered a plate of fried oyster with egg.

avocado milk (RM10.80)

watermelon milk (RM7.30) – yummy!

the pot of soup for steamboat.

Consists of chunks of yam, cabbages. The soup-base is really tasty.

the ingredients for the steamboat.

special dipping sauce & tong fun

dump everything in for a boil

The steamboat price is at RM29.80.

Taiwan style fried oyster with egg (RM13.80)

The steamboat is good. However the fried oyster with egg is so so. But at least the oysters are not too small & its fresh lor….

I’ve tried food in Lot 10 Hutong

After watching the food programme which aired on Astro; visited by the popular ‘Choi Lan’….being longing to try the food here; at Lot 10 Hutong. Hutong means lane or alley in Chinese. But it also represents a form of community that exists only in China, particularly in Beijing. Here is a food court with total of 27 food stalls; well known all over the country. That’s the pros of it. You can get all the famous food from different states under one roof.

There were so many food that we wanted to try. Unfortunately we are unable to do so, since there’s only 4 of us. Bear in mind, the prices are rather high compared to hawker stalls though they are mainly hawker food. Wanted to try the famous Mo Sang Kor’s bak kut teh; but its sold out by the time we were dining there….6+pm. So sad…  😦

the famous hokkien mee from Petaling Street (RM8.90+)

yes! its tasty & yummy…the most crowded stall

roast duck. the plate on top right (RM23+)

meat are juicy & tender, but expensive to eat

Oh Chien/ Fried Oysters (RM9.90+), Singapore Hokkien noodles(RM7.90+)

I felt that both of these are fine. Acceptable.

Original Lam Mee (RM8.80+)

noodles and gravy combines well. GOOD!

satay 6 stick (RM20.80+)

the meat are juicy & tender, very lean without any fats. but very expensive

mua chi (family pack with 4 flavors) – RM7+

the flavors are unique, taste fine too…

Mel’s birthday – Part 2

Hubby celebrated my birthday over the passed weekend.

Initially we thought of dining at “Chili’s”. However I changed my mind few days ago. Thought of trying something new instead. Since I know there are plenty of new food or restaurant which I’ve not tried before. Despite of trying something new, I do not want it to be too pricey though. I asked my friend, asked Ashley for suggestion. She suggested Chinoz. Well, since it has good reviews from some food blogger too…Therefore I told Alex, the changed of plan. Alex answered; up to u….’lei wa si…lei tai sai today’ ~  (u decide, u are the host today) :-p

the sauces

Alex’s orange juice – RM13

My Mango Fizz – RM12

complimentary toast bread

crispy potato wedges – RM9

Fish & Chip – RM28

(the fish meat is very yummy)

Grill Chicken with brown sauce – RM25

I like the fries very much though!

CHURROS – RM20 (with hazelnut chocolate dipping sauce)

I seriously miss this dessert very very much. I have no idea what’s its made of. Its like a soft dough, like soft donuts texture, warm, top with cinnamon powder & sugar. Dip into the chocolate sauce when its warm. VOILA~~~

when I looked up; I noticed this beautiful high ceiling right above me.

Mel’s Birthday – Part 1

Owww…..sad to know that my 28th birthday has just over.

I’m aging year by year….gosh…time flies really fast without one realizing it..

As usual, I’ll be celebrating my birthday with my family & my loved one.

This year, I spared the earlier weekend to celebrate with my family.

We decided to have dinner at a cafe, which newly opens not long ago. Received some good reviews from friend & colleague. Therefore decided to give it a try. They serves fusion food. (western & chinese).

the very 1st dish. “tom yum soup” ..

not so good…. doesn’t taste like tom yum 😦

black pepper udon – NICE

fried chicken wings

-yummy….taste of ‘nam yi’ –

pork meat balls……tasty

Spaghetti – delicious

black pepper chicken chop

chicken maryland – SOSO only!

YOO….We siblings ROCKS!!

Note: This cafe is located in Uptown Avenue, Seremban 2.

I think their western food (those chop chop) so so only. Their chinese food taste nicer….. Out total bill came up to be RM80+ (with drinks). Quite fair lor…each person average less than RM20.

After our dinner; I suggested for 2nd round – ice cream as dessert over in A&W. The place where we able to makan cheap ice creams. Unfortunately, they no longer serves various types of ice creams anymore 😦

Therefore we were restricted to few types only…..*sigh*

I ordered the ‘chocolate ice cream’

with mom, niece, sis & bro

Hubby & I

After all the makan & food, we return home. My mom surprised me with a cheese cake which she made it the day before. Wahhh….I’m so happy & touched.Thank you mummy…thank you everyone!!  😉

We ordered individual meal instead of set. Upon ordering each of us punya food….the captain whom took down our order kept insist us to order the ‘roast goose’. Therefore we ordered for quarter size. And its not cheap ler….quarter size already RM48, if request for thigh side additional of RM8.  @_@ Moreover she kept insist us to get half bird.(which will be RM88)

when it comes to Chinese cuisine; a pair of chopstick is a must.
