What’s your favorite choice of Dim Sum? @Restoran Taiji Eatery, Bdr. Puteri Puchong

When comes to ordering dim sum, what’s your favorite choice of Dim Sum?

I invited mummy and Marcus to come over to my house over the long weekend. Mummy likes eating dim sum. So, Alex and I brought her to Puchong for dim sum. At Bandar Puteri Puchong itself, there are several dim sum restaurants. I asked to come here again because my first experience here, the dim sum was not bad. Not forgetting most of the dim sum restaurants here are often packed during weekends. If any that look so vacant…it must be something wrong. Either the food or price or probably the service.

Restoran Taiji Eatery is a non air conditioned restaurant. But still bearable with fans on lar. No push carts here…varieties of dim sum are served in big tray. They’ll carry around the restaurant easily for customers to choose and order. If you do not sight any of your choice…probably you can ask the staff whether those dish are available or not. For example, porridge, loh mai kai, char siew pao.

We started with a plate of warm Char Siew Pao (Steamed BBQ Pork Bun). Each plate consist of 2 average size steamed bun.

The pao dough was not hard or dry. Quite fluffy. The filling was moist and tasty.

Nothing great about the Hong Kong G Cheong Fun but it wasn’t horrible la…

Siew Mai (Steamed Pork Dumpling) was okay. Quite meaty.

However I preferred this dunno what name. Similar to Siew Mai but topped with a piece of prawn. Fillings are pork & prawn. Firm and juicy texture.

Yu Mai (Steamed Fish Balls). The fish balls are quite nice I felt. It has firm texture and no strong fishy taste.

The Chicken Feet was just average.

Loh Mai Kai (Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken). I like their loh mai kai wor. It was properly cooked. Means no semi-cooked rice grains. And I find it tasty too.

Their Stir-Fried Radish Cake on that day was quite disappointing. Color wasn’t really attractive (look pretty white) and the taste also abit bland. Luckily it has sufficient egg and bean sprout to compensate the overall taste.

Their Wu Kok (Yam Dumpling) was very nice and yam-mie. Its also my favorite. Never miss ordering one. Crisp exterior, smooth and fragrantful yam interior with bbq pork filling.

After meal dessert with a serving of Kwai Fa Kou. I always heard this kuih served in those olden days Chinese emperor palace (watched from tv drama). But I’ve not tasted the real one. This one, the texture is between jelly&kuih. Not really crunchy type. A bit of sweetish taste with hint of chrysanthemum and Chinese wolfberries.

Too bad they did not serve any Durian Pancakes on that day. I recalled it was quite nice.

The price list here. So I’m guessing a basket of siew mai cost RM3.50.

Total bill was around RM48, for the above dim sum, a pot of tea (Tieguanyin) and a cup of Herbal tea. Overall we were quite satisfied with the food and price.

Kampua Noodle @Restoran Strawberry Puchong, Bdr. Puteri Puchong

There are many nice Sarawak food that I couldn’t get it handy in Klang Valley. Needless to say at Seremban. Langsung tak ada! Huhuhu…Some common ones that you may have a higher chance to sight are kolok mee, kampua noodle and Sarawak Laksa. Unfortunately to get an authentic or somewhat taste similar is sometimes not easy. I’ve tried a nice Sarawak Laksa at Ming Tien Cafe Sunway. (Introduced by my Sarawakian Hb)

Talking about Suituapui’s Blog; visiting this cikgu’s blog often made me miss those Sarawak’s food that I hardly get it here. Especially those dishes/noodles that I like. Hurmmmm….. @_@ Within a week, he can post several bowls of kampua noodle from varies places in Sibu. (I believed he is a Kampua Hunter. hehe…) Made me have constant cravings for kampua noodles. huhuhu…… drools in front of my monitor. T_T *wipe wipe*

There’s this place, a hawker centre at Bandar Puteri Puchong named “Restoran Strawberry Puchong”… our Sarawakian friend recommended us to try the kampua noodle. Hb brought me here several times…too bad its only available during the day 😦

This place would be convenient to people living around Puchong area. That includes me…although I’m not staying in Puchong…but its near for me to travel here 😉

Apparently, the stall owner is from Sibu. Read somewhere mentioned by a blogger, the kampua noodle source was previously supplied all the way from Sibu. However now they’ve started making their own noodle after managed to get a noodle machine.

Read how kampua noodle is made —> Sarikei kam pua factory

Food served at this stall; kampua noodle (white or dark soya sauce version), mee pok, kampua soup, pien neek (meat dumplings), fried kampua noodle.

A normal serving Kampua Noodle – RM4

I’m not a fan of white version, I preferred it tossed with dark soya sauce. I’m also not a fan of Kampua Noodle in soup. hehe….

A simple and comfort plate of tossed noodle topped with boiled pork slices, 2 pieces of pien neek (meat dumplings), fried shallots and spring onions served with an ordinary chili sauce instead of cili padi. That’s how the Sarawakian eat them.

The taste and noodle texture is same like what I had in Sarawak. Too bad they do not served pig’s liver soup here. :-p

We also ordered a bowl of (Pien Neek) Soup Meat Dumpling – RM3.50.

Can’t remember the number of pieces were there. But I recalled it was quite many. Pien Neek is somehow different from our wantan.

Alternatively, you can also order the dark version of Pien Neek. Its tossed with dark soya sauce. Quite aromatic.

Next month; when I go back to Sarikei, I can have more time for Kampua and more Sarawak food!

This post is specially for friends in Penisular Malaysia craving for their Sarawak Kampua Noodle! 😉

I Thought I saw Ghost!

Beginning of June 2013, Alex and I decided to go for passport renewal when we realized that our passport has expired. I’ve heard about the service of renewing passport via kiosks…(only at selected place in Klang Valley) is fast and easy. Therefore I google for information and address before going there.

Read HERE….the writer got her passport renewed and ready within 90minutes via kiosk.

Well prepared ourselves with a new copy of passport photo, a photocopy IC (front and back) and our old passport. Penuh bersemangat, Alex and I reached;

Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia, Negeri Selangor, (Cawangan Subang),
Blok A, Plaza Glomac, Jalan SS7/19, Kelana Jaya,
47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Tel : 03-78830975 / 78850149 / 78850301
Faks : 03-78850243

in the afternoon. Went over to the information counter to inquire about the kiosk. Then only was told that they has stopped the service for renewing passport via kiosks kononnya the government has implemented new passport. With different quality (effective since May 2013). I was damn pissed off lor…. Means I gotto get a number, queue and renew via counter. Want to get number also finished. So many people want to travel meh……….

Forget it…I then changed my mind to renew our passport at the Immigration Dept. in Seremban. We went there early before 8.30am. Wasn’t crowded…may be cos its still early. Get it done within 20 minutes from getting number, waiting time and to payment. Then we were given a collection receipt for our new passport. Guess what… 4 hours to be ready!! “So EFFICIENT lah”!! I do not want to waste time…I decided to come back another day to collect my new passport. After all the collection receipt is valid for 3 months.

Passport Fees

  1. RM100.00 for 2 years

  2. RM300.00 for 5 years

Kinda confused right. One saying ‘blue background’ and the other one saying ‘white background’. Anyway…..the current photo specification is ‘white background’. Do take note.

Went to collect our passport on another day (you are not allowed to collect on behalf of other person) at the collection counter. Remember to bring along the collection receipt. It was quick. However I got freak out!!!!

2013-07-24 20.48.26This was my original photo. With color okay! How come they changed it to ‘black & white’ on passport?!!! huhuhuhu…..

Lunch with GFs @Plan B, Midvalley

Hooray….now I can finally say I’ve been to Plan B! Not Plan A, B, C,…. its the makan place called Plan B, by the BIG Group. So many people have reviewed about this place. Felt so left out lar…. Mid of last month, when we were having a meet up, it was a good chance for us to go for Plan B since everyone of us couldn’t decide a makan place.

This deco using multiples potted plants made it look nice and special. Pretty obvious if you are entering from Midvalley’s South Entrance.

The non-photo illustration menu looks like a note pad. “When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade”..HAHA!! We should always think positively?

We chose and ordered few different dishes from the menu. We decided to share them so that each of us could get a chance to try all 3 items that we’ve ordered.

A bottle of plain water with glasses were served as we seated. *very efficient* The water is free of charge and its refillable. My friend commented that the bottle looks like those bottles we used to see in laboratory during school days.

We ordered Plan B Breakfast Platter – RM26.

2 eggs any style, served on toast with grilled turkey bacon, a golden hash brown, smoked chicken sausage, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms & cherry tomatoes. Comes with fresh orange juice & a choice of coffee or tea.

Means… this breakfast platter comes with 2 cups of drinks. But we requested to have a bigger glass of orange juice instead of coffee or tea. However I felt that this plate of breakfast was quite ordinary. Something I could easily prepared at home too.

Our second dish arrived, Carbonara – RM20

spaghettini with turkey ham & sauteed mushrooms, tossed in classic creamy sauce.

I kinda like their carbonara. Its not too cloying, al dente spaghetti. Overall it tasted good.

*I noticed something…. my carbonara serving size is smaller than I read from other blogs who’ve ordered the same dish wor….  😦

We saw from the menu, a whole page consists of burgers and sandwiches. So, we pick randomly and decided on The Loaded Club Sandwich – RM21

All burgers and sandwiches are served with a side of house salad. Our choice of sandwich was not bad.

What was the filling? grilled chicken, crispy turkey bacon, roasted capsicum & avocado-feta mash stacked on egg mayo spread on home-made white bread.

served with home-made chips. – Taro and Sweet Potato Chips…they are addictive!

Meet our chubby Abel jai… all became part-time nanny of the day ^_^

*sigh..a blurry photo taken by the waitress* nice to catch up with you gals… CHEERS!

Product Review : NARUKO NRK Cat Eyes Mask Set

2013-05-27 18.55.40

When I have eye bags, panda eyes (dark eye circle) due to lack of sleep or often sleep late, I know its time to do something with my eyes. Other than paying attention to our face most of the time… sometimes we may have neglected our eyes. Alright…its never too late do work on it.

When age comes into consideration, fine lines and anti-aging does matters.

Naruko Eye Mask
Very cute packaging.

Naruko Vitamin K Up-All-Night Eye Mask improves dark circles and eye circulation while providing long-lasting moisture.  The fragile capillaries surrounding the eye area often allow blood to leak into the skin, which causes under-eye circles. The use of Vitamin K puts an end to this seepage by controlling blood clotting. Plus it helps to lighten melanin that makes circles appear more prominent.

2013-05-08 23.57.32Thin and cotton like sheet mask for both eyes. The eye sheet mask is soaking wet with transparent essence. Its not sticky. While the extra essence which left in the sachet…I use it to apply over my elbows and knees. No wastage. 😉

2013-07-019Kindly read the instruction at the back of the sachet. It will be so uncool if you place the eye mask on the wrong direction. LOL! Because the mask was so wet….it kinda slip down slightly below my eyes.

Directions: After cleansing, apply eye mask with the pointy side placed near the inner corner of the eyes. Smooth evenly and wait for 15-20 minutes. Remove mask and continue with usual skincare routine.

Benefits:

  • Whitens
  • Brightens
  • Increases Circulation
  • Moisturizes

Verdict : No irritation. No strong fragrance smell. Which is a good thing. Cos I really hate mask with strong fragrance smell. However other than feeling hydrated and moisturized, it doesn’t show much improvement on my dark eye circle during first usage. (Maybe my dark eye circle was quite bad T_T).

Naruko Eye Mask1
Purrrr….really cute packaging too.

Naruko Peptide Purrty Kitty-Eye Lifting Eye Mask fortifies the elasticity and firmness of the eye area while helping to diminish fine lines. This eye mask was formulated to naturally plump out existing wrinkles and prevent new ones with the use of peptides. Peptides have the ability to stimulate collagen production, thus creating a firmer and more rejuvenated appearance.

2013-07-08 22.31.24Naruko Peptide Purrty Kitty-Eye Lifting Eye Mask comes with ear loop. Its much secure and firm having ear loop. Just like a hanger. And now…do I look like a catwoman? hehe…. Erm..pls. don’t tell me you sees Ninja Turtle in me. tsk….

2013-07-12_10.08.39

Directions: After cleansing, secure ear loop of eye mask behind ears. Then smooth mask evenly around eyes and wait for 15-20 minutes. Remove mask and continue with usual skincare routine.

Benefits:

  • Anti-Wrinkle
  • Increases Elastin
  • Firms
  • Rejuvenates

Verdict : No irritation. No strong fragrance smell too. Which is a good thing. I somehow felt Naruko Peptide Purrty Kitty-Eye Lifting Eye Mask works on me. Leaving me with firmer and brighter eye. Because of its design… it not just nourishes my under eye but also my upper eye as well.

My advise: Please use it regularly in order to maintain the good skin. Same goes to everything..If you find it workable and suits you, its better to use them consistently to see a better effect.

Naruko Cat Eyes Mask Set consists of (1x) Naruko Peptide Purrty Kitty-Eye Lifting Eye Mask and (1x) Naruko Vitamin K Up-All-Night Eye Mask are now priced at RM6.50 (limited time offer)

Lets try some Fuzhou Cuisine @Koufu Trendy Chinese Cuisine, Subang Jaya

In Malaysia; Fuzhou dialect is widely spoken, especially in Sibu, Miri, Sarikei, Bintulu, Yong Peng, Sitiawan and Ayer Tawar. How do I expose to Fuzhou dialect?  My husband is a Sarikeian cum Fuzhounese. Can I speak in their dialect? Well…I tried learning…by hearing their conversation. I can speak a little..perhaps those simple ones lar… I can understand a little…but don’t speak too fast okay :-p Alex’s friends commented that Fuzhou language is like an alien speaking language. LOL!!

Other than speaking, of course their food is different too. I do like their food actually. No complains. However its quite difficult for us to find Fuzhou cuisine here in KL when there aren’t much Fuzhounese. Unless I cook at home. But sometimes, we can’t get the exact ingredients here. For instance, ‘red rice wine’. Fuzhou Red Rice Wine Mee Suah is my favorite and comfort dish!

I was quite excited to know about this new place, near to where we are staying…..serving authentic Fuzhou cuisine. Not from Sarawak, but Setiawan.

Photo by Koufu Trendy Chinese Cuisine

Newly opened on July 14 2013. Its located opposite to One City Mall. One City Mall is yet to open…only some shops opposite the mall are occupied now. Never expect a quite area here draws a number of customers too.

Part of the menu.

Types of noodles served here.

We started our meal with Kompiah as appetizer. Thin and crispy dough topped with sesame and filled with minced pork. It was served hot. Therefore it was quite good. You can eat it on its own or by dipping in the Kampung Koh Chili Sauce. Yea…Kampung Koh Chili Sauce is also a production of Setiawan.

You can browse here to see how kompiah is prepared → Kompiang and Mou Mou from Sitiawan, Perak

Here comes the signature dish and also my comfort dish.

Koufu Red Wine Noodle – RM10.90

Using mee suah as the noodle. The mee suah is very thin and smooth. Tasty red rice wine soup with pieces of chicken and 1/2 no. of hard boiled egg. The Fuzhounese would usually serve this during celebrations like birthday and Chinese New Year. Anyway….MIL’s mee suah is still the best. hehe….

Currently they are having a Grand Opening Promo. Buy 1 Free 1 Koufu Red Wine Noodle till 31st of July 2013….which is a good deal!

Fried Meat Dried Noodle – RM7.90.

For this konlou noodle (mee kicap), the noodle tasted fresh while the texture is chewy too. Topped with slices of fried pork, fried shallots and spring onions. I like the fried meat. It was tasty and juicy. However I felt that the noodle portion is abit small. hehe….

We ended our meal with this bowl of icy cold,

Koufu Tang Shui – RM4.90 (Small). Though we ordered the small one but the portion can shared among 2 person also. Unless you are very thirsty, then cannot lar…LOL! Contains 10 ingredients in this bowl of dessert. It was refreshing and not overly sweet. The taste sort of reminds me of ‘Lin Chee Kang’.

1000042_478914292190020_1067468957_nSo, if you miss Fuzhou cuisine too… do drop by Koufu Trendy Chinese Cuisine to give it a try. Overall I’m quite satisfied with the taste of the food I had there.

Remark: This restaurant has closed down. Thank you.

Breakfast @Restoran Melido 美丽都茶餐室, Seremban

I must admit that these days I hardly drive down town to explore food in Seremban. When working in Seremban, I usually bring my own lunch from home. Therefore I also don’t need to go out for lunch. On weekends…I often eat somewhere nearby or eat at home when mummy cooks. Why ar? Sometimes I also lazy to go out lar….Seremban is quite heavy traffic on weekends. But of course still can’t compare to KL. LOL! Its very different when you drive to Seremban town during the day and night. The town is like kinda deserted after 9pm.

All thanks to Ivy, of My Story for refreshing my memory about this place. I was reading her blog last week and noticed she wrote about what she had here at Restoran Melido 美丽都茶餐室, Seremban. I recalled this place! But forgotten what I had here before. LOL! *paiseh*

I got tempted to try the yong tau foo that she mentioned RM0.50/piece. Therefore I decided to come here for breakfast, last Saturday.

An old shop located near Pasar Besar Seremban. And if you are Serembanians…I’m sure you know where is the ‘old yellow bus stop’. This is where its located.

Very classic! Proud to see the younger generations (their children) helping their parent’s business.

Yong Tau Foo for RM0.50/piece. Really worth eating! Working non-stop on stuffing and frying them. Too bad the stuffed bittergourd was not available that day.

The fish cake was firm but not hard and nice. No strong fishy taste too. I also like the meatballs (mixture of pork+fish paste). Bouncy and tasty!

Mom had Mee Kicap with 3 pcs. of Yong Tau Foo for RM3.50.

Although the yong tau foo are priced RM0.50/piece…but the fish paste stuffing wasn’t stingy. Look at the stuffed beancurd.

I tried the Hakka Mee – RM3.80 from one of the stall there. It was alright. But agreed with what Ivy said, Tow Kee Hakka Mee is still my favorite pick.

I also ‘dapao’ a pack of Char Siew Rice (BBQ Pork Rice) – RM4.50 for my brother…

and also a pack of Siew Yuk Rice (Roast Pork Rice) – RM4.50 for my late lunch. Hehe….. The chili sauce wasn’t that good. But the rice was fragrantful and the meat were tasty and juicy!

Verdict : Food were served pretty quick. Although it may not be an air conditioned room…but who cares..as long as the food is good and affordable. Bring additional pack of tissue lo… :-p

Dinner @Korean BBQ San Nae Deul, Setiawalk Puchong

Bulgogi, Dak-Galbi, Samgyetang, Kimchi jigae, Bibimbap, Ramyeon, Gimbap, Pajeon, Ddeokbokki are the common dishes in Korean Cuisine. Which is your favorite one? My all time favorite is kimchi jigae! But this round I’m sacrificing kimchi jigae for something else. Worth the sacrifice??

Varieties of food offered at Setiawalk, Puchong. I decided to try the Korean cuisine here. The only Korean cuisine at the moment. – Korean BBQ San Nae Deul. If I’m not mistaken, they have several outlets in KL.

The interior. Cosy environment. The restaurant do provide private rooms. Maybe required reservation….on safer side lo…

Our sitting place.

Complimentary plain water for diners.

Grilled meat is something you must not miss when you dine in a Korean restaurant. So, we ordered Grilled Spicy Pork in Korean Spicy Sauce – RM35.

Another thing I like about Korean cuisine is the Banchan(side dishes)!! Look at the varieties of banchan here! *LIKE*

Hassle free. Just leave the grilling work to the staff. BTW….do you know why they put a piece of mushroom on that grilling pan ar?

meat was cut into smaller pieces for easy consumption.

Okay…now the meat are ready to makan. Although it stated ‘spicy’…but not spicy pun.

condiments for the grilled meat.

Fresh and green lettuce to eat together with the grilled meat.

This is how you eat them. A piece of lettuce, place rice over the lettuce, a piece of meat and some sauce made of fermented bean paste. The wrap it. It was quite yummy!

Dolsot Bibimbab (Mixed Rice with various vegetable in the stone pot)RM25 wasn’t satisfying. Lack of red pepper paste.

Samgyetang (Boiled chicken with ginseng)RM35

I sacrificed my kimchi jigae for this Samgyetang!! Unfortunately this samgyetang was very disappointed. Hardly taste any ginseng and the soup was quite bland. Moreover its incomparable to the samgyetang I had in Korea. I miss the one I had in Korea….huhuhu….

Overall; only satisfied with the Grilled Spicy Pork in Korean Spicy Sauce and banchan. Dolsot Bibimbab and Samgyetang are below average.
