Hamburg Steak on Sis’s Birthday

On Sis’s birthday, I suggested to mom that we make a simple dinner at home.

I guess nothing beats a comfort home cooked food!

I then told mom, why not we make hamburg from scratch. Mom agreed to it.

I think I’m in love with hamburg after trying one from Waku Waku. hehe….

I was looking for the recipe, then I recalled Baby Sumo did blog about it.

Here’s the recipe from Baby Sumo.

(I uses pork instead of beef)

Hamburg Steak (Hambāgu)

Recipe adapted from No Recipes
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 20-25 minutes
Makes 6-8 (depending on how big you make your patties)

Ingredients

1 large egg
1 small onion, finely diced
1 large clove garlic, minced
450g minced pork
170g silken tofu
1 cup mixture of fresh breadcrumb and crushed crackers (2 slices bread and 5 crackers)
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp parsley, minced
1 tsp light soy sauce
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp cooking oil
For the sauce
1/2 cup chicken stock (I uses Maggi chicken cube stock)
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp tonkatsu sauce (I substituted with Worchestershire sauce)
1 tbso demi-glace (couldn’t find this in KL so omitted)
1. In a frying pan over medium high heat, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and sauté half the onions until golden brown and caramelized. Allow to cool to room temperature.
2. Combine the pork, tofu, sautéd onions, raw onions, garlic, fresh breadcrumbs and crackers, egg, ketchup, oyster sauce, parsley, soy sauce and black pepper in a large bowl. Put some disposable gloves on and knead the mixture together until it is uniform in color and texture.

3. Add a little bit more oil to the frying pan that you fried the onions in and place over medium heat. Because the patties are on the soft side, you’ll want to form them and add them directly to the pan. The patties should be around 1″ thick.

4. Fry them until they’ve formed a dark brown crust on one side, about 1 1/2 minutes then use a spatula to carefully flip them over and brown the other side. Unless you have a very large pan, you won’t be able to do them all at once, so fry 4 at a time and transfer them to a plate when they’re browned on both sides. Don’t worry if they’re not cooked all the way through as they will finish cooking in the sauce.

5. After you’ve fried all the patties, drain off any excess oil (but don’t wash the pan as the brown stuff is what will give your sauce flavor). Add the chicken stock and boil until it’s reduced by about half in volume. Add the ketchup, water, Worchestershire sauce, and demi-glace (if using) and stir to combine.

6. Place the patties back into the pan, cover, and cook for 7 minutes, flipping them over once in the middle. Cook uncovered for another 3 minutes to thicken the sauce a little

The shaped up patties that are ready for frying.

With the help from mom, we made this hamburg steak. Eaten as burger!

Nom Nom…its a good recipe. The patties are tasty and yummy! My niece especially enjoyed eating this ‘burger’ 😉

Mummy’s hardwork on these Pai Tee. It was her 1st attempt. No wonder those selling in restaurants are expensive. To fry the mould/hat is quite tedious.

On Sis’s birthday 2 weeks ago…we had this Strawberry Tart from RT Pastry House.

If you are a fan of Mousse cake and a fan of white chocolate, I’m sure you will love this. Smooth white chocolate mouse with a thin layer of sponge cake and biscuit crumbs coating the whole cake. The cake is very fresh! But the strawberries are quite sour. Hahaha….8in (1 kg) for RM63.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIS! ♥

Dinner @ Pormtip Thai Restaurant, USJ City Mall

It was a rainy evening.

Then Alex and I decided to have Thai food for our dinner. Hot and spicy food on rainy day sangat best! ^_^

Pormtip Thai Restaurant is located at ground floor of USJ City Mall…a not so successful mall, I thought. Rather a quite mall and not many tenants. *sigh*

Our first dining experience at Pormtip Thai Restaurant was not bad. Actually we were quite surprise that the Thai food is not bad. So, we decided to re-visit.

quite modern feel…

We did not order tom yam..feel kinda common. Instead we ordered Kaeng Som – RM22. We chose a Talapia.  Kaeng Som is another alternative to Tom Yam. It is equally as good as tom yam.

Kaeng Som is Thai assam pedas with kangkung, carrots, long beans and cauliflower. Its very savory! You can choose either steam or fried fish. We chose steam.

The fish is very fresh and meaty. While the gravy/ soup is hot, spicy and sourish..really appetizing.

Other than Kaeng Som, we’ve also tried before the Lemon Steam Thai Style..which is good too!

Stir Fry Pucuk Paku (Fern) with Belacan – RM8.80

Pucuk Paku fried with belacan and some bits of dried shrimp (udang kering)

Crispy Tofu – RM8.80

An ordinary tofu dish…

After eating all the hot stuff…get a Thai Coconut for RM5.50 to cool ourselves.

A good place for Thai food lovers…and people who are staying nearby. (knowing the jam in area especially the construction of MRT is in progress)

Food : 8/10

Price : 8/10

Brunch at The Muffin House, Seremban

I remember I once visited this place when it was quite new. But was few years ago. Opppss…..tee hee..

That time they were more into serving muffins. I also remember the muffins were good.

Weekends, we’ll usually just settle our lunch around Seremban 2 area. Because lazy to go down town..The other day, out of sudden, I got the idea to come here for brunch. So, I decided to date mummy. ^_^

A simple looking cafe, nice to hangout with friends and family.

Simple menu with pages of sandwiches, pastas and drinks.

The Muffin House, practice self-service. Place and pay your order at the counter.

Mummy ordered a cup of Black Coffee for RM4.90.

I like my cuppa Caramel Cappuccino – RM6.50. Aromatic coffee with nice hint of caramel taste, which is not too sweet.

Mummy likes her Chicken Pepperoni Spaghetti with Mushroom sauce – RM10.90. I was surprised with the serving method. Instead of the usual porcelain plate, they uses big paper cups. From the look, I’m gonna guess that, they 1st placed the cooked spaghetti in the paper cup, next pour in the creamy mushroom sauce, topped with slices of pepperoni then finally they heat it/ placed in the microwave?

My Smoked Chicken Spaghetti with mushroom sauce – RM10.90 was good also. Topped with slices of smoked chicken with drizzles of BBQ sauce. The not too creamy mushroom sauce won’t make you feel ‘jelak’.

My only complain for this spaghetti is the portion abit small for me. HAHAHAHA!!!

At The Muffin House, they sell assorted flavors muffins.

Types of muffins they served.

Other than muffins, they do have assorted cakes too.

I chose ‘Marble’ Muffin for RM4.90, about the size of my palm. I would say the muffins are worth eating. They are moist and not too flaky.

Remark: This restaurant has moved to Uptown Avenue, Seremban 2. Thank you.

Lunch @ Waku Waku Restaurant, Midvalley

During a lunch outing with my girlfriends, 2 weeks ago..

I suggested  Waku Waku Restaurant, Midvalley. I knew about this place after reading it from Sean of Eat Drink KL and Baby Sumo of Eat your heart out.

Both of them shared nice reviews and photos about this place. Apart from that…the price seems to be quite affordable too. I meant it won’t burn a big hole on your wallet…kekeke…

The menu attached with photos is simple and easy to understand. Knew about the Char Kuey Teow and Nasi Lemak ala Jepun…but we weren’t really on to that. Preferred to order something more Jepun…

For drinks we ordered Genmai Cha (Rice Tea) for RM2.90/ glass. And its refillable.

Sukiyaki Nabe (RM18.90) arrived first. My friend commented the thinly sliced beef meat were good. While the Japanese soy sauce soup base were so tasty that we just couldn’t stop sipping till the last drop. ^^

Okonomi Yaki (RM13.90), a Japanese pancake made of flour and egg with the ingredients of shredded cabbage, onion, meat and squid. Topped with okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise. I find it not bad actually.

Irodori Kushiyaki Mori (RM18.90). Assorted skewers consist of salmon, chicken fillet and chicken wing. Perfectly grilled with glazing of teriyaki sauce.

Chicken Hamburg Steak 180g (RM17.90). Hamburg is their signature dish. If you can’t take beef…you can at least choose chicken. I want to go back for this! Tasty and nicely cooked hamburg with Japanese soy sauce which was not too watery or salty. Moreover the patty was not too tough or dry…easily to chew. Placed in a stone plate together with an egg, fried potato slices and some corns.

Food(as above) : 8/10

Price : Affordable

Ambiance : Comfortable

Dim Sum Breakfast @Restoran S2 City Park, Seremban 2

Talking about where to have dim sum in Seremban….

Last time, on weekends I usually visit “Ming Kok” for dim sum. Their dim sum is quite good and its often crowded…need to take number and wait for seat, just like visiting a clinic. Unfortunately my last visit there…I suppose would be the last..the dim sum quality deteriorate alot.

One day..I was browsing through a copy of advertising magazine which delivered to doorstep every month. Then I came across this page and noticed the restaurant actually serves dim sum until 2.30pm (available on weekends). Moreover its located very near to my parent’s house. So I decided to date mummy for dim sum breakfast on the following day. By the way..mummy likes dim sum 😉

The dim sum here is like you choose which type you want, then they will steam it. Except for the frying stuff which will serve immediately.

Feels like having a bowl of porridge to comfort my stomach. Too bad, the porridge was not smooth and taste quite bland too. No century egg, just some minced pork. For the porridge, I think a noob like me may cook it better ^_^

Ordered mummy’s favorite. ‘Yong Chili’. Aikkss…the chili looks so skinny. Taste average only.

Chicken Feet….lousy too 😦

The average steamed pork ribs.

Prawn Dumpling. Skin so thick….

Siew Mai..meat texture not firm.

Yam Puff (Wu Kok)…..so small mini =_=

Compared to all the above, the only one that I felt it was quite good..is the char siew pao. Fluffy steamed bun with tasty and generous filling.

The price list. Each item you ordered, they will put a ‘tick’. I don’t understand Chinese character..therefore I just pay the total bill.

Verdict : Hmm….don’t think I will return second time. Need to hunt for another place =p

The so-called ‘food marathon’ to celebrate my birthday!

Our initial plan was to eat, window shop and watch a movie.

I was suppose to wake up at 9.30am. And as usual I will wake up earlier then Alex…because I very ‘MO’. We also planned to go out at around 10.30am.

Unfortunately….I missed the alarm, I overslept and suddenly awake, realized it was already 11.30am!! OMG!! We’ve missed our breakfast session!!

I got up quickly, groom myself (apply ICI paint, etc..). By the time we arrived Pavilion, KL already noon. Haihh…Therefore Alex and I decided not to watch movie, instead we had a so-called food marathon. But only began from lunch. 😀

I brought along my copy of Worthy Book and decided to utilize it.

Good lighting. Perfect for photographs. Ya…I am a dreamer! kekeke…

Talk to the food first…. ^_^

Lunch @ Pasta Zanmai, Midvalley Megamall

Last month we had a complete 5 jimui gathering. Myself, Ashley, Wanyi, Nic & Vivi. Nic suggested Pasta Zanmai which is located at 1st floor of Midvalley Megamall. Pasta Zanmai is the sister of Sushi Zanmai. It was my first time dining here, same goes to most of them. Therefore we went ahead with the plan. The name comes with the word ‘pasta’, true enough the menu mostly consist of pastas!

It was 12pm and its already lunch time. I see the restaurant is quite full. But no problem in getting a table for 5 of us.

These chopsticks come in a handy way. Since its a wooden chopstick, I assume it will be thrown after usage. ^^

After reading the menu and place our orders, then we would like to order Green Tea for our drink. *sweat* Didn’t know order green tea also can be so much of hassle. Here’s the conversation….

We : Would like to order a jug of green tea with 5 empty glass pls. Bcos there are 5 of us.

Waitress A : Sorry, we can only give 3 glasses for a jug of green tea. But the green tea is refillable.

We : But there are 5 of us! So, if a jug is for 3 person, how about we order a jug of green tea and another additional 2 cups of green tea?

Waitress A : Sorry, we don’t serve green tea in cup.

We : *started to get benggang already* Fine! Then just 1 jug of green tea.

Then we asked from another waiter who brought us the jug of tea, whether can he bring us another 2 empty cups. He then answered “I can’t do that. But I can bring 2 cups of plain water for you”. Well….at least he gave us a better option! Thank you.

Agedashi Tofu (sorry, forgot the price). Tofu was smooth but the gravy was quite salty!

The beautiful runny egg + teriyaki chicken + rice, stir well…it result was quite good.

The food above comes in a set of 2 items (serving size – average). There are several sets for you to choose. We chose 3 different sets to be shared among us. So sorry that I’ve forgotten the names. And I forgotten to keep the receipt. (Duno busy doing what oso @_@). But I do remember each set are price at RM25. The overall taste was not too bad la…but I minus marks due to the inconsistency spaghetti. Not well cooked. Some were still hard! Their pizza is the only thing I like. Thin and crispy crust. 😉

Time to feast! :-p

Vivi and Nic left earlier. Ashley, Wanyi and I felt thirsty later. So, we thought why not drop by Snowflake for a bowl of dessert and a drink. *As usual…the place was crowded! Need to grab a seat 😦

We tried Ocha’Ryo (RM7.90), new in their menu. The shaved ice (bottom) is made of green tea. It was quite smooth, feels as though I was having green tea ice cream. Topped with red beans, baby pearls and black sesame balls.

I also ordered a cup of Lime Jade Jelly Green Tea (RM5.50) for myself.

*why my face looks so tired here huh??*

Yeah…TGIF and long weekend! A toast to everyone! 😉

Off Topic: Understand that its going to be a long Raya break for most of the Malaysians…wish everyone Happy Holidays and Selamat Hari Raya. These few days while driving to and from work, I noticed there’s many road accidents on highway. Please remember to drive safely on road.

Dinner @ South Sea Seafood Restaurant ,Kampung Baru Subang

On one fine Sunday, Alex and I decided to make arrangements with Alan and Yau for dinner. So I told Alex to discuss with Alan on the venue. My goodness…this 2 guys can really drag! So ‘po mah’… For 1 whole afternoon, still not decided yet. *pengsan*

Luckily Yau gave a suggestion and there goes our yummy seafood dinner at South Sea Seafood Restaurant ,Kampung Baru Subang. However she did warn us that its a lil pricey to dine here. No doubt the food is good la…

South Sea Seafood Restaurant is located near the Subang airport (can watch aeroplane while eating crabs). Moreover the food here is Halal. It would be good for the Muslim diners to enjoy nice Chinese Seafood with the Halal sign ya.

South Sea Seafood Restaurant started its business since year 1989 with just a simple building. Besides that, we did not face any parking problem here. There’s an open air car park space just across the rood, opposite of South Sea. Parking is free.

It was quite crowded. But we still manage to get a table for 4. The environment here is not bad. And its clean too!

Yeahhh…a trip to Aquaria!! hehehe….You can see there are many fresh seafood in those tanks.

Types of crabs and lobsters.

Anybody fancy the Geoduck? But they are quite expensive T_T

These Razor Clams are so fat!! Well…I think I still prefer the moderate size.

So, this is the famous ‘Empurau’ – RM70/kg! Have you tried it? How it taste like? Is it really nice?

Alan recommended this Barbecue Squid – RM18.00. Crunchy and tasty squid. Love the tentacles.

I then ordered a ‘Xiong Tong Lala’ – RM28. The lala is not big. But they are plump and juicy. Nevertheless I love the soup very much. Finished till the last drop. haha…The soup was flavorful and abit spicy (red cili padi and ginger).

Garlic & Pepper Mantis Prawn – RM28

Crispy batter mantis prawn flesh.

A vege dish to balance our diet. We chose Yin Yong Kailan – RM16. The leaves were deep fried till crisp. While the stem were stir fry.

Presenting you, star of the night! Deng Deng Deng Deng…….. Butter Crab – RM47/ piece. The gravy is best to consume when it hot. Woot Woot. This plate of crab was finger licking good!! The not too big crab was fresh and the flesh is sweet and firm.

I like eating crabs. Any cooking style will be fine for me. Guess as long as the crabs are fresh..no matter how you cook them it definitely taste good too. I usually eat the ‘kaki’ first then only I’ll go for the claw. Save the best to the last ma….

These fried buns are ideal for dipping into the crab’s gravy. 6 piece of bun is price at RM4.20.

We enjoyed our dinner here. Thank Yau for recommending this place. Would love to return for more food! 🙂

Yummy Spaghetti @ The Vanilla Place, Empire Shopping Gallery

Spaghetti / Sandwich + Ice Cream + Drinks at The Vanilla Place, Empire Shopping Gallery for 2 (RM29)

Yea..I redeemed another deal from Groupon.

I almost forgot that I have not redeem this coupon, which was about to expire. hehe….Therefore, I was kinda last minute lor. It was so difficult for me to make a reservation even it is for just 2 person. (weekday also full, dinner also full, lunch full jugak..) Finally manage to get a vacant slot for us on the last day of redemption. *Phew…

This is the section for Groupon users. I sat where you can see the guy in red is. (I can peek at what’s cooking at the stove which is just next to me). I saw their spaghetti comes in individual packs. ^^

We were able to choose either sandwich or spaghetti. So, Alex and I chose spaghetti. The menu is quite simple. But the choice of spaghetti is quite many too.

Alex chose Spaghetti Carbonara. Nicely cooked spaghetti with creamy sauce topped with slices of mushrooms and turkey.

I chose Spaghetti Seafood Pesto. I have no complain on my spaghetti. Love the flavorful sauce that they use to cook it. Moreover the seafood is quite fresh too! Yuummmm….(highly recommended!)

For drinks, we were served wit Ice Lemon Tea. Then after meal, each of us got a scope of vanilla ice cream. My friend said  their salad is good. But I hardly order salad outside ^_^

Anyway there’s still some unfilled space in my stomach that I wish to eat cake. 😀

Then, I head over to Whisk. Whisk is popular for its coffee and also cakes.

A Classic Look  cafe!

It was at night, so I dare not try coffee. Because if I would to take coffee at night..then for sure I will stay up and wide awake like ‘owl’!  hahaha….

Though there wasn’t much choice of cakes left…but I would love to try their Red Velvet cake.

Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting for RM11.90/ slice. The cake texture is quite moist with a lil crumbles. But its okay..no problem. Not over-sweetened but I would prefer if it has thicker layer of  cream cheese frosting.  (Rating 7/10)

Lunch @ Coffee Chemistry Signature, First Subang Mall

2-Course Western Meal: Grilled Salmon Steak, Classic Roasted Lamb Shoulder, OR More + Dessert at Coffee Chemistry Signature, First Subang Mall for 2 (RM39).

Managed to grab this deal from Groupon.

Alex and I decided to redeem the coupon to settle our lunch.

Coffee Chemistry Signature is available at First Subang Mall since January 2011. If I’m not mistaken, before this..they were located at Sunway Giza.

Since their name come with the word ‘Coffee’, so I assume they served good quality coffee. And I also read several positive reviews about their coffee.

This deal does not come with drinks. Therefore we browse through the menu serving varieties of fusion food and drinks, we ordered a drink for ourselves.

At the entrance of Coffee Chemistry Signature.

Its quite obvious as you come up from the escalator. Its on your right hand side.

Counter where barristers prepares the drinks.

I noticed that their ceiling is quite nice, with decorative lights.

♥ with love

Alex ordered Ice Lemon Tea. The ice lemon tea that I usually order has strong tea taste but lack of lemon taste. Eventually, over here its the other way round. Not much of tea taste, but strong flavors of lemon. Which I think its not bad also la…

I ordered a cuppa Cafe’ Mocha – RM8.50 for myself. Rich and aromatic drink with nice coffee art.

Happily admiring my drink. But feel so ‘sayang’ to damage the art…. @_@

For the main course, there were total of 5 choices applicable for Groupon user.

I chose Grilled Salmon Steak, served with mashed potato and vegetables. The yellow gravy that you saw on plate is not oil but its maltaise sauce. Good match with the salmon. Unfortunately I felt that my salmon is slightly overcooked. But I do like their mashed potato. Very smooth and buttery.

Alex chose Grilled Chicken Chop served with homemade mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetables. I like the mushroom sauce but not the chicken. I find it slightly overcooked as well. Because the meat is abit dry.

For dessert, it comes with Brownie in ice cream. The brownie is warm and moist. It tasted great together with vanilla ice cream.

And Affogato. Espresso topped with vanilla ice cream. This is absolutely good for coffee lovers. Rich flavors which gives you the ‘umhhppp’!!

Verdict : I would love to return for their coffee! ^_^
